Fourth Of July-Themed Al Jazeera Video That Mocks Americans As Fat, Gun-Toting Racists

By Scharona Schwartz, Jul. 5, 2015, The Blaze

Al Jazeera’s digital media platform AJ+ posted a Fourth of July-themed video mocking Americans as fat, cheese-eating, gun-toting, pill-popping, racist porn watchers.

While some on social media applauded the creation, others slammed the Qatar-owned network for using the holiday “to dump” on America.

Social media users got particularly riled up by the criticism coming from the channel owned by Qatar — a country where stoning is a legal punishment under Shariah law, women have second class legal status, writers can be imprisoned for criticizing the emir and abuse of foreign laborers has been repeatedly criticized by human rights groups.

The video is sarcastically titled “Americans Show Why USA Is The #1 Country In The World.”

Baker Has A Message For The Gov’t Official Who Just Fined Him $135,000 For Declining A Gay Wedding Cake

By Billy Hallowell, Jul. 3, 2015, The Blaze

Just hours after Oregon officials announced that Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of Sweetcakes by Melissa, would be fined $135,000 for their refusal to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding, Aaron Klein had a message for government officials: He has no plans of backing down.

“He wants to silence anyone who opposes his point of view,” Klein told TheBlaze, speaking specifically about Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian, who has spearheaded the case against the couple. “Unfortunately, he’s doing this with the wrong Christian, because I fight back.”

Klein also delivered a message to Americans and business leaders about why he believes that his case is monumentally important.

“For years, we’ve heard same-sex marriage will not affect anybody,” he said. “I’m here firsthand to tell everyone in America that it has already impacted people. Christians, get ready to take a stand. Get ready for civil disobedience.”

Reporters Had Rare Opportunity To Question Hillary Clinton

By Oliver Darcy, Jun. 3, 2015, The Blaze

Reporters traveling with Hillary Clinton were given the opportunity to ask the Democratic presidential contender a few questions Friday — and they lobbed a few softballs her direction.

Here’s a transcript of the question and answer session from the pool report:

Q: Bernie got almost 10,000 people at his recent rally. What does that say about him as a candidate and why aren’t you drawing those crowds.

A: “well, we each run or own campaigns and I always knew this was gonna be competitive, and i want to have a great debate in the primary and caucuses around the country and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”

Q: (exact phrasing inaudible) question about the Clintons’ connection to the state.

A: “You know, that’s really true. We are so fond of and grateful to New Hampshire. We have friends hat we’ve made over the years that we’ve stayed in close touch with. I obviously care deeply about the state and admire so many of the public officials, Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan is a good friend, so I love coming to New Hampshire, and I love going to every part of the state, and I’m happy to be here in the upper valley.”

Ted Cruz: Media Can't Wait To 'Filet' Conservatives

By Barbara Boland, Jul. 3, 2015, Washington Examiner

The "mainstream media...are partisans" who protect Barack Obama and "are ready for Hillary," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said in an interview with Glenn Beck Thursday where he criticized Republicans for wanting reporters "to like them."

For conservatives, there is no such thing as a "nice" reporter, argued Cruz.

"You see Republicans, when they are interviewed by left-wing reporters, and they get afraid, they want them to like them," Cruz said. "They are not going to like us, they hate us!"

One day a young staffer described a reporter to Cruz as "really, really nice."

"You know what? No, she's not," said Cruz passionately. "She wants to destroy you. Nothing would make her happier than to take your life and filet you on the front pages. And don't think for a minute that because she smiles and is friendly to you that it's anything else."

"Isn't that pretty cynical?" asked Beck, who added he agrees with Cruz on this point "100 percent."

Activists Plan To Burn American Flags In New York City Ahead Of Fourth of July

By Oliver Darcy, Jun. 30, 2015, The Blaze

A group calling for the immediate disarmament of the New York Police Department plans to burn American flags in a Brooklyn park on Wednesday, just days before the Fourth of July holiday.

“Disarm NYPD” announced the “Burn the American Flags” event on Facebook, inviting individuals to join the organization at Fort Greene Park to “set fire to this symbol of oppression.”

Organizers said accused Charleston shooter Dylann Roof wasn’t an “isolated actor,” but a “product of a consistent pattern of state-sponsored terrorism and radicalized dehumanization in America.” The event originally was aimed at burning the Confederate flag, but later changed to focus on the stars and stripes.

“There will be no peace until we tear down this system of oppression,” the group wrote on Facebook. “It isn’t enough to take the flag down; we must put an end to white supremacy once and for all.”

She Refused To Issue Gay Marriage Licenses On Friday

By Billy Hallowell, Jun. 29, 2015, The Blaze

Despite a decree from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that county clerks can refuse to grant same-sex marriage licenses on religious grounds, Denton County Clerk Juli Luke — who personally opposes gay nuptials — started granting licenses on Monday morning after originally declining to do so following Friday’s Supreme Court ruling.

“Personally, same-sex marriage is in contradiction to my faith and belief that marriage is between one man and one woman,” she said in a statement released on Sunday. “However, first and foremost, I took an oath on my family Bible to uphold the law and as an elected public official my personal belief cannot prevent me from issuing the licenses as required.”

Luke had previously declined two gay couples licenses on Friday, claiming that she needed legal guidance from Paxton before granting the licenses. She also later said that she was holding back due to a need to update computer software, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Seven Well-Known Pastors Who Are Speaking Out Against Gay Marriage Legalization: ‘Culture Will Get Increasingly Darker’

Billy Hallowell, Jun. 29, 2015, The Blaze

A flurry of conservative pastors and faith leaders have responded to Friday’s same-sex marriage Supreme Court ruling, with many showing their disappointment over the decision to legalize gay unions across America, while voicing their concerns about religious liberty.

Below, see just seven reactions from prominent Christian leaders who take issue with same-sex nuptials:

Evangelist Franklin Graham, son of famed preacher Billy Graham, has held little back in regards to his views on same-sex relations and, more specifically, his take on the high court’s ruling.

He took to his Facebook page on Monday morning to respond to President Barack Obama’s decision to celebrate gay marriage by lighting the White House in rainbow colors, calling the act “outrageous” and “a real slap in the face to the millions of Americans who do not support same-sex marriage and whose voice is being ignored.”

Al Sharpton Isn’t Stopping At The Confederate Flag

By Jason Howerton, Jun. 26, 2015, The Blaze

Rev. Al Sharpton quickly joined critics of the Confederate flag flying outside the South Carolina Statehouse, but the civil rights leader is going one step further and plans to denounce Robert E. Lee Street and a Confederate flag painting in the New York State Capitol Building on Saturday.

In a tweet posted Friday, Sharpton’s National Action Network promoted the Saturday event as a “vigil for the victims lost to violence and to denounce Robert E. Lee Street and Confederate Flag Painting in New York State Capitol Building.”

When It Comes to Dealing With Illegal Immigration, The U.S. And Britain Couldn’t Be More Different

By Fred Lucas, May 23, 2015, The Blaze

LONDON — Nick Evlogimenos came from Greece to Britain three years ago and now wants to see limits on both illegal and legal immigration into the country he now calls home.

“I understand the agony some people face but from my point of view, whoever wants to make a living in a country that is not his own should prove he can provide for that country by being productive,” Evlomenos told TheBlaze.

Fresh off his Conservative party’s reelection victory this month, British Prime Minister David Cameron proposed a sweeping crackdown on illegal immigrants and employers who hire them that would allow confiscating illegals’ paychecks and cutting government benefits for legal immigrants. The announcement came after reports that net immigration into Britain in 2014 reached a near record at 318,000, an increase of more than 100,000 from the previous year.

Newly Released Documents Indicate Key Hillary Clinton Claim On Emails Was Not True

By Oliver Darcy, May 18, 2015, The Blaze

Emails published by the New York Times Monday indicate that Hillary Clinton used more than one private email address during her time as secretary of state, contradicting previous claims from the Democratic presidential contender’s office.

Multiple emails show Clinton used account “hrod17@clintonemail.com” while serving in the Obama administration as secretary of state.

Clinton’s attorney, David Kendall, had previously told Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) that that particular address had not “existed during Secretary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State.”

Another statement from Clinton’s office said she only used one address during her time at the State Department.

“Secretary Clinton used one email account during her tenure at State (with the exception of her first weeks in office while transitioning from an email account she had previously used),” it said. “In March 2013, Gawker published the email address she used while Secretary, and so she had to change the address on her account.”

Clinton served as secretary of state from January 2009 to February 2013. The emails she sent through “hrod17@clintonemail.com” were sent in 2011 and 2012, according to the documents released by the Times.

A representative for Clinton’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheBlaze.

Study Put Nonsmokers In An Unventilated Room With People Smoking Pot

By Liz Klimas, May 15, 2015, The Blaze

Studying the effects of secondhand pot smoke is not entirely novel, but a group of scientists recently conducted a new “hotbox” experiment in light of the increased potency of marijuana over the last few decades and to better understand how nonsmokers were affected emotionally and behaviorally.

A member smokes a marijuana joint in a cannabis club on August 22, 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. Researchers with Johns Hopkins University recently tested the effect of secondhand marijuana smoke on nonsmokers in an extreme situation. (David Ramos/Getty Images)

“This study is a significant update in our knowledge of cannabis smoke effect on nonsmokers and has implications in many arenas, including drugs and driving,” Dr. Edward Cone, who performed some of the early secondhand marijuana smoke studies in the 1980s, said in a statement.

The effect of marijuana, including secondhand exposure, is increasingly being called up in front of lawmakers as many states have approved the use of medical marijuana as well as others that have gone so far as to legalize recreational use.

Scientists at Johns Hopkins University created a 10-by-13-foot plexiglass room where they had six somewhat regular weed smokers sit there and smoke in the presence of six nonsmokers — people who had not used cannabis within at least six months prior to the experiment and who tested negative for other drugs and alcohol.

'Black Brunch’ Protesters Hit Atlanta On Palm Sunday--‘You’re Scaring the Children!

By Barracuda Chica, Mar. 30, 2015, Georgia, News, The Blaze

Like they did a week ago, ”Black Brunch” protesters hit the Atlanta area on Palm Sunday to disrupt “white spaces” by walking into restaurants, standing among diners and loudly reading statistics and proclamations regarding black oppression.

Twitchy noted the latest protests, which were caught on cellphone video and spread around the Internet via social media.

In this clip a man who appeared to be a manager attempted to get protesters out of the eatery to no avail — not even when a woman told them, “You’re scaring the children!”

Al Sharpton Shows Up At Tragedies Like A Bad Smell

John Linder, Dec. 27, 2014, The Blaze

Mayor de Blasio ought to be impeached for incompetence or stupidity. Take your pick.

Al Sharpton ought to be imprisoned for inciting riots or evading taxes. Take your pick.

For those of us on the sidelines, just as we thank our soldiers who protect us from foreign threats, so should we pause to thank our police officers for the sacrifices that they make every day to keep our communities safe.

‘Race Wars’ Part 1: The Shocking Data On Black-On-Black Crime

Tiffany Gabbay, Apr. 9, 2012, The Blaze

Indeed, statistics support a very different narrative than the one usually offered by “race hustlers,” as Pastor C.L. Bryant calls them, who routinely portray an America where members of the black community are selectively targeted and brutalized by white racists.

A 2007 special report released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, reveals that approximately 8,000 — and, in certain years, as many as 9,000 African Americans are murdered annually in the United States. This chilling figure is accompanied by another equally sobering fact, that 93% of these murders are in fact perpetrated by other blacks. The analysis, supported by FBI records, finds that in 2005 alone, for example, African Americans accounted for 49% of all homicide victims in the US — again, almost exclusively at the hands of other African Americans.

Black Ferguson Residents Arm Themselves and Descend Upon White-Owned Business — The Reason Why Is Front Page Worthy

Jason Howerton, Nov. 28, 2014, The Blaze

A group of four black Ferguson residents reportedly armed themselves and descended upon a white-owned business following a grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. But unlike many of the Ferguson demonstrators, the armed men were there to protect the business, not destroy it in protest.

The men told the Las Vegas Review Journal that they feel indebted to the white store owner, Doug Merello, who has given them employment over the years.

Ferguson Protesters Call To Boycott Businesses On Black Friday ‘Unless They Are Black-Owned’

Jon Street, Nov. 27, 2014, The Blaze

So why boycott the businesses on the busiest shopping day of the year? Some have suggested the day can be traced back to the days of slavery in which traders sold slaves at a discounted price to plantation owners preparing for the winter.

But the first use of the phrase “Black Friday” was not actually used until nearly 100 years after the abolition of slavery in the U.S., according to the fact-checking website Snopes. The name originated in 1951 and referred to the mass number of workers calling into work sick, hoping to score a four-day weekend.

Third-Quarter Economic Numbers Are In--And They’re Not What Analysts Expected

Zach Noble, Nov. 25, 2014, The Blaze

In the third quarter of 2014, the U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.9 percent, according to revised figures in a Bureau of Economic Analysis report released Tuesday morning.

As Business Insider noted, the initial estimate of third-quarter GDP growth was 3.5 percent, and analysts expected the revision to actually bring that figure down to 3.3 percent.

Instead, it jumped up dramatically — but the forces driving that jump were mixed.
