Gun Sales Spike In June

By Aaron Smith July 7, 2015, CNN

Background checks for gun sales spiked 11% in June compared to last year, making it the busiest June ever, according to the FBI's background check data.

Last month the FBI conducted nearly 1.53 million background checks, which are required for all in-store purchases, but not for sales at gun shows or between individuals. That's the highest volume of checks in June since 1999, when the FBI started keeping track.
Gun background checks have climbed annually since 2003 with the exception of just three years, one of which was 2014, indicating a clear jump in gun sales.
Michael Bazinet, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a gun industry group, said the increase is driven in part by the influx of more women and first-time gun owners into the market.

Guns Needed In Churches, Advocate Says

By Darrel Drowland, Jul. 5, 2015, The Columbia Dispatch

While some have called for stricter gun regulations after the church shooting last month in Charleston, S.C., Chad D. Baus, secretary of the Buckeye Firearms Association, is espousing the opposite: End the restrictions in states such as Ohio and South Carolina on carrying concealed weapons (without advance permission) into places of worship, which otherwise become “no-guns victim zones.”

“There is strong biblical support for bearing arms for self-defense,” he said, but noted that many of today’s groups calling for more regulations are connected with churches. He criticized everyone from Pope Francis to Karl Rove to “President Barack Hussein Obama.”

“Will it take a church massacre in Ohio before the Republicans controlling the General Assembly do anything about it?” Baus asked. “Tell your legislators that places of worship shouldn’t be listed among the places where persons with murderous intent can take a gun, having full assurance that their intended victims have been disarmed by Ohio law.”

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush released 33 years of his personal income tax returns last week, posting them on his campaign website for all to see.

Why Walmart Will Keep Selling Guns

By MJ Lee, Jun. 25, 2015, CNN

(CNN)Confederate flags are off the shelves at Walmart. But still up for grabs: guns.

Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, was the first to announce plans this week to remove Confederate flag products from its stores after Dylann Roof killed nine African-Americans in a Charleston, South Carolina church. The company was hailed by many for quickly responding to the uproar over the flag. But it has since come under pressure to also stop selling guns in response to the nation's latest mass shooting.

"I would hope that stores like Walmart would recognize the danger of having these guns displayed right next to an aisle away from microwave popcorn and and Xbox games," said U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat who has pressed for gun control since 20 children were shot and killed at a school in his state in 2012. "I'm not terribly confident that a 21-year-old Walmart clerk is going to sell guns responsibly or be able to give customers the kind of advice they need on how to responsibly use that gun."

The debate over the Confederate flag has also raised broader questions about where the line should be drawn for retailers that sell other questionable or offensive products.

NRA Gun Blogs, Videos Web Forums Threatened By New Obama Regulations

By Paul Bedard, Jun. 7, 2015, Washington Examiner

Commonly used and unregulated internet discussions and videos about guns and ammo could be closed down under rules proposed by the State Department, amounting to a "gag order on firearm-related speech," the National Rifle Association is warning.

In updating regulations governing international arms sales, State is demanding that anyone who puts technical details about arms and ammo on the web first get the OK from the federal government — or face a fine of up to $1 million and 20 years in jail.

According to the NRA, that would include blogs and web forums discussing technical details of common guns and ammunition, the type of info gun owners and ammo reloaders trade all the time.

"Gunsmiths, manufacturers, reloaders, and do-it-yourselfers could all find themselves muzzled under the rule and unable to distribute or obtain the information they rely on to conduct these activities," said the NRA in a blog posting.

Man Shoots And Kills Armed Robber During Home Invasion (VIDEO)

By Bob Owens, May 21, 2015, BearingArms.com

We’ve seen people posting this viral video claiming that it took place in various locations in the United States, which is not true.

Here’s the real story, courtesy of Full30.com:

This attempted robbery took place in Brazil as a couple pulled into their garage. A group of three men hold the door open before it can completely close, and approach the driver side of the car armed with a handgun (seen at 0:37).

The concealed carrier in the driver seat noticed the man approaching and fired several rounds into the attacker. The criminal can be seen letting a shot off at 0:17 as he cowers against the wall.

The 32 year old man who was shot by the driver died from his wounds, and the other two men were apprehended by the authorities.

This is another prime example of a time when local law enforcement can do nothing for you. Your personal safety is your own responsibility.

More Women Seek Concealed Carry

By Liz McCue, Mar. 22, 2015, NPTelegraph.com

In the past three years or so, Tom Englehart said he has seen a 60-70 percent increase in the number of women enrolling in his concealed carry classes. Englehart, and other Nebraska State Patrol-certified concealed carry instructors in the area, will teach some women-only courses. There are five in the city.

Part of concealed carry training is learning that a firearm is a last resort. But it could also be training for the worst day of your life, said Andrew McCleary, concealed carry instructor at Exodus Concealed Carry Training Center, which relocated in November to 510 N. Dewey St.

“Defensive shooting is not going to happen in a building with a bad guy in front of you,” McCleary said.

McCleary said he enjoys teaching all-women courses. His female students are more likely to be handling a handgun for the first time.

“They haven’t been shooting since they were this tall,” he said, gesturing at about thigh-height.

The fresh approach that all-women classes have is advantageous, he said. They’re not caught on habits from years of shooting, like an incorrect or inefficient grip. Englehart said women in his classes are usually more involved.

Street Art Movie Posters Hit Liam Neeson For Gun Control Hypocrisy

By Awr Hawkis, Mar. 13, 2015, Breitbart.com

Fake posters mocking Liam Neeson’s gun control hypocrisy are popping up on bus stops in Los Angeles.

The posters are a play on posters for Neeson’s current film, Run All Night. Those posters feature an image of Neeson pointing a handgun, captioned with the words “Run All Night.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the anonymous individuals behind the new posters changed the words to “Gun All Right” and added a script that says, “One Hypocrite Laughing All the Way to the Bank.”

As Breitbart News reported on September 12, Neeson said he “is totally for gun control in the US.” He said the gun culture in the US is “crazy,” complained about the number of guns in our country, and mocked the “gun lobby” for wanting to arm more law-abiding citizens for self-defense.

New Bill Supports Concealed Carry On Campus

Daniel Metz, Jan. 27, 2015, Indiana Daily Student

The push to allow the concealed carry of firearms on college campuses is underway in the Indiana General Assembly.

“The biggest reason is because of the vulnerability of college campuses in general,” Vining said. “There’s a very good reason you don’t hear about mass shootings taking place in gun shops or gun shows.”

There are already laws that
allow for the concealed carry of weapons on college campuses in seven states, including Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin.

Obama Makes No Mention Of Guns In State Of The Union Address

Sabrina Siddiqui, Jan. 21, 2015, Huffington Post

He also took limited executive action last year to strengthen the federal background checks system. But his failure to even mention the word "guns" in his most high-profile speech of the year is an acknowledgement that gun control is currently dead at the federal level, particularly under a GOP-controlled Congress.

2 Bad Guys With Guns Burst Into A Restaurant--In Texas

Mike Miller, Jan. 14, 2015, Independent Journal Review

Koy Sam and his wife were in the process of closing their Houston restaurant for the day when two armed robbers walked in. As one of them forced the couple to the floor, the other one headed for the cash register.

An unidentified customer, who was in the middle of his meal, then decided to take matters into his own hands.

The customer, also armed, held one of the would-be robbers at gunpoint until the police arrived. He fired at the other suspect as he fled, hitting the front windows of the store.

Concealed Carry Law Working Fine

News-Gazette, Jan. 11, 2015

Well, it's been nearly a year now since Illinois State Police started issuing permits to citizens who met the established criteria. The result? Local authorities say concealed carry in Illinois has been a non-event — in other words, no problem.

The apocalyptic rhetoric and doomsday predictions have turned out to be so much hot air. So also have predictions that anywhere from 300,000 to 400,000 Illinoisans would apply for a permit and start packing heat. So far, the number is around 90,000. The number will grow, but it's a long way to 300,000 concealed carry licenses.

Civil Rights Suit Filed In Police Shooting Of Man Brandishing Sword

Joshua Berlinger, Jan. 3, 2015, CNN

Prosecutors said that Hunt "lunged" at two officers, Cpl. Matt Schauerhamer and Officer Nicholas Judson and their actions were reasonable. The medical examiner's autopsy report determined Hunt was shot six times, once in the back.

The lawsuit alleges that under the Second Amendment, Hunt had a right to carry the sword and the two officers did not have a right to demand that he surrender.

US Appeals Court Deems Gun Law Unconstitutional

FoxNews.com, Dec. 19, 2014

“The government’s interest in keeping firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill is not sufficiently related to depriving the mentally healthy, who had a distant episode of commitment, of their constitutional rights,” wrote Judge Danny Boggs, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan, for the panel.

Support For Gun Rights At Highest Point In Two Decades

By David Sherfinski and Stephen Dinan, Dec. 10, 2014, Washingtontimes.com

Support for gun rights is higher than it’s been in decades, according to the latest data from the Pew Research Center that signals a stunning turnaround in how Americans feel about the issue just two years after the Newtown school shooting.

Pew found that 52 percent of Americans say Second Amendment rights are more important than gun control — up 7 percentage points from just after the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 20 schoolchildren and six faculty dead.

That’s the highest approval rating in two decades, and it’s being driven in part by changing attitudes among black Americans, who are increasingly likely to view guns as good for public safety.

Pew found 54 percent of blacks now say firearms protect people from being victims of crimes, compared to 41 percent who say they are a public safety risk. Just two years ago, only 29 percent of blacks said guns were a public safety boon.

“Over the past two years, blacks’ views on this measure have changed dramatically,” Pew researchers said.

Black Ferguson Residents Arm Themselves and Descend Upon White-Owned Business — The Reason Why Is Front Page Worthy

Jason Howerton, Nov. 28, 2014, The Blaze

A group of four black Ferguson residents reportedly armed themselves and descended upon a white-owned business following a grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. But unlike many of the Ferguson demonstrators, the armed men were there to protect the business, not destroy it in protest.

The men told the Las Vegas Review Journal that they feel indebted to the white store owner, Doug Merello, who has given them employment over the years.

Calif Loses One Of World's Largest Manufacturers To Anti Gun Politics

By Leisa Crawford, Oct. 5, 2014, Misguidedchildren.com

ProMag Industries, one of the world’s largest firearm magazine manufacturers has relocated from California to Arizona.

California an Anti 2nd Amendment State

ProMag Industries, General Manager, Mike Kurvink, explains the decision to relocate was based on California’s anti-second amendment political environment and the proliferation of restrictive gun manufacturing legislation.

In an effort to control their citizens’ right to bear arms, California legislators have hammered away at the firearms manufacturing industry by passing laws that amplify and redefine the specifications of a gun magazine. If the politicians in California cannot directly impede the sale of guns in the state, they will control them through legislation that makes it difficult if not impossible to manufacture.

Arizona a Constitutional Carry State

One of the reasons the owners of ProMag selected Arizona as the site for relocation was that they are a constitutional carry state. Meaning, it is legal for the citizens of the state to carry a fire arm without requiring a permit.
