Sharpton went to Ocasio-Cortez’s office on Thursday and effusively tweeted about his visit, even sharing a video of the two of them dancing.

 “Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOC and I discussed priorities for the coming session and the newly elected members’ plans to fight back against the disastrous anti-civil rights agenda enacted by the Trump administration in the last two years,” Sharpton tweeted, adding that the two of them “lightened it up a bit and talked about James Brown” after discussing more “serious issues.”

When Bill Maher jokingly referred to himself as a “House N—” on his show this past Friday, it drew immediate fury and condemnation from all sides. Not surprisingly, the Rev. Al Sharpton was at the head of the pack, quick to capitalize on the moment to call Maher out for his error. Even though they’re apparently friends.

Those of us who grew up in the eighties remember Mr. Sharpton’s rise to “prominence” rushing to the defense of Tawana Brawley, an African-American teenager, who, back in 1987, falsely accused a local prosecutor, and others, of rape. Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of libel as a result of that case and ordered to pay $65,000.00 (the balance of which was entirely covered by his supporters, including famed O.J. Simpson attorney, Johnny Cochran).

It was a blazing hot day, but Al Sharpton didn't break a sweat as he waited to take the stage at a Brooklyn rally, dressed as usual in a perfectly cut suit and tie, his arms crossed and his leather-clad feet planted firmly, almost statue-like, on the ground.

The crowd was there to remember Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died one year earlier in a scuffle with a white police officer on Staten Island, and Sharpton was one of many speakers. But Sharpton had called this gathering, and as he stood beneath a tarp out of sight of the fidgety masses, it was clear he was in charge.

He checked his watch. He checked to make sure Garner's widow, Esaw, was by his side. He checked his phone for messages, and he eyed the other speakers as if silently timing them.

Al Sharpton has an hour every night on MSNBC to blast away at whoever he wants -- usually anyone who dares question the Obama administration. He has a media megaphone. NewsBusters would enjoy a nightly show on cable news to question the "Al Sharpton. But Al Sharpton wants to start criticizing the liberal media which has been so willing to promote him over the years?

Sharpton’s civil rights advocacy organization, the National Action Network, announced it will launch a media-watchdog blog called “The Shift Daily” in a post on Instagram from Rachel Noerdlinger, his longtime spokeswoman. She had a brief stint in New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration, but the New York Times reported it crumbled amidst "ethics lapses, unpaid parking tickets, [and] a boyfriend with a serious criminal past."

Noerdlinger wrote, “For decades, reporters & now bloggers have been writing about [Sharpton and NAN]. Now, NAN will flip the script and write about them.” She asked people to “send us your blogs, articles and writings … For a chance to be featured on the site when it launches.”

Al Sharpton sent out a harsh message about businessman Donald Trump, saying the billionaire may be running for president, but it doesn’t appear he’s really trying to win.

Sharpton also admitted in an interview with the Washington Post that his own run for the White House years ago wasn’t about winning, but rather about advancing his own personal causes.

“When you run for president, in my opinion, you run either to win or you run to further a cause,” Sharpton said, the Washington Post reported. “I ran [in 2004] to further a cause. … [and issues] we wanted to raise like criminal justice and all were not going to be in the center stage if we didn’t have a candidate.”

At a Hartford, Connecticut rally supposedly called to protest five homicides of young people in the city over the past two weeks – four of them shootings – Rev. Al Sharpton was challenged Saturday by a black pastor for asking every preacher present to donate $100 to Sharpton’s civil rights organization, National Action Network (NAN).

“I want to be here to see a memorial for the young people that have died,” said Sharpton at Shiloh Baptist Church, according to CT News Junkie. “I want the names and their stories up so children can see they don’t want to be on that wall.”

Pastor Marcus Mosiah Jarvis of Christ the Cornerstone Praise and Western Tabernacle, however, shouted at Sharpton as he strode down the center aisle of the crowded church, “How dare you ask the people of Hartford to give you their money! You’re nothing but a pimp!”

IRS Files $70K Tax Lien Against MSNBC's Harris-Perry, Husband

The Internal Revenue Service has placed a tax lien on Melissa Harris-Perry and her husband, James Perry, for about $70,000 in delinquent taxes, according to a notice filed in Forsyth County Hall of Justice earlier this month.

Harris-Perry is a well-known host of an MSNBC talk show and a professor at Wake Forest University. The IRS filed the notice April 6.

In an email Wednesday, Harris-Perry said she was unaware of the tax lien but knew about the debt. She said she and her husband paid $21,721 of the debt when they filed their taxes Wednesday. The remaining debt, $48,581, covers a tax period ending Dec. 31, 2013, according to the notice.

AL SHARPTON: “Now, many took to social media to criticize the ISIS parody for being in poor taste. But the SNL cast member who plays the dad tweeted, “Proud of this. Freedom to mock is our greatest weapon.” Jamilah, is it funny or is it in poor taste? I mean, did it go too far? What do you think?”

JAMILAH LEMIEUX: “I didn’t think it was funny, that’s my personal opinion. What’s good taste and bad taste can be debated, but I think about this — is the risk worth it? My office is a block away from here on the other side of Rockefeller Center, so if somebody wants to retaliate for this, because we know that this is an organization and a group of people that are so committed to what they believe, and so against the idea of this freedom of speech that they punish us for doing things that we take for granted. I don’t want to be sitting in the Ebony offices and lose my life because somebody thought it was funny to play fast and loose with ISIS.”

JOSH ZEPPS: “But isn’t this precisely the point? I mean, isn’t that the whole point of free speech, that we can’t allow the parameters of our national conversation to be dictated by the most violent voice in the room? It’s a bit like the Sony hacks. I mean, unless we want to live in a world in which North Korea dictators and Islamist fascists are the ones who determine what we can and can’t say, what jokes we can and can’t tell, whom we do and do not mock, then the price of free speech is taking that risk.”

SHARPTON: “What about the families of people who saw their loved ones slaughtered by ISIS? How do they view this?”

LEMIEUX: “Well, obviously this pushes the boundary of good taste, I think that’s clear, but I would say this. The whole point, I’m agreeing with Josh here, the whole point of this is to mock ISIS and what they want is to make us scared, they want to instill fear in us, that’s the point of terrorism. So this spoof, funny or not, it pushes back and shows we are not afraid. And so I think they want to drag us into war, Josh and I had this conversation earlier, they want to drag us into war, that’s what they want, so this actually hurts them.”

SHARPTON: “Well, comedy’s been poking at people a long time.”

As tensions mount over the December 30th shooting of 36-year-old Jerame Reid by police in Bridgeton, New Jersey, Reid’s family is saying thanks but no thanks to Reverend Al Sharpton.

The shooting was captured on video by a police dashboard camera, and it appears to show Reid being shot as he exits a vehicle with his hands up, after one of the officers said he saw a gun in the car's glove compartment and warned Reid not to reach for it. The case has garnered national attention.
