Chris Matthews' Wife Runs First Campaign Ad During GOP Debate

By Derek Hunter, Aug 07, 2015 Daily Caller

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is married to Kathleen Matthews, a former local DC news anchor and executive at Marriot Hotels. She’s also a candidate for Congress, seeking the Maryland U.S. congressional seat being vacated by Democrat Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who is running for the state’s open Senate seat.

Matthews, a progressive Democrat, chose to run her first campaign ad on Fox News during the fiery first Republican debate. Her ad features the GOP field on television screens in the background, including a single-shot of Donald Trump.

“Watching the Republicans run for president makes me proud to be a Democrat,” Matthews says in her commercial’s opening. “Because our party stands up for working women, good wages, upward mobility, better health care — including the choices we have a right to make.”

Chris Matthews Hopes Fox Asks GOP Candidates About Evolution

By Kyle Drennen, Aug 06, 2015 NewsBusters

During MSNBC’s 4 p.m. ET hour pre-debate coverage on Thursday, Hardball host Chris Matthews called on Fox News moderators to grill the Republican presidential candidates on evolution: “So I would like to think that Fox is just brazen enough to ask some – what they call bizarre questions....If a person doesn’t believe in science or evolution or the evidence of our life on this earth, that’s a bad start. Okay?”

Matthews fondly recalled GOP contenders being pressed on the issue during a primary debate in 2007: “You know, they [Republicans] get really mad – back when we did the Reagan Library debate a couple cycles ago and somebody asked, John Harris of Politico, who believes in evolution here? A reasonable question....And they get really mad at that because it exposed a couple of them to a particular point of view about science.”

Giuliani On Trump: 'We Might Have A Little Reagan Here'

By Ian Schwartz, Aug 05, 2015 Real Clear Politics

In an appearance on MSNBC's Hardball Wednesday evening former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) praised Donald Trump, saying he has a little bit of Reagan in him.

"First of all, he's not a Roman candle," Giuliani told host Chris Matthews. "This is a very smart guy. This is a person who is media savvy in ways that some of the other candidates aren't. And he's a lot more substantive than you realize. I've know Donald 25 years. Meaning, he understands a lot of the world issues with a lot more depth than you probably realize."

"So we might have a little of a Ronald Reagan here, a guy they underestimate," Giuliani observed. "And in my particular case, I'm personal friends with five or six of them. And I have a hard time deciding who I'd like to see be president and I'm probably going to take a little while. But I expect Donald Trump is going to do pretty darn well tomorrow night."

Baffled Chris Matthews: Why Do So Many Hate 'Moderate' Obama?

By Scott Whitlock, Aug 04, 2015 NewsBusted

A baffled Chris Matthews on Monday night wondered why so many people hate the "moderate" Barack Obama. Matthews cited a new poll finding hostility towards the President. An incredulous Matthews sneered, "Thirty three percent of this country, across the board, is very negative towards Obama, very negative. Personally, they just don't like him."

The Hardball anchor speculated, "Now, it could be all those reasons. He turned out to be more of an aggressive president, more of a Democratic-advocate president, a black-advocate president." With no sense of self awareness, Matthews insisted, "I think he's [Obama's] been moderate, myself."

Things Get Awkward When Matthews Asks DNC Head About Bernie Sanders, Socialism

By Josh Feldman, July 30, 2015 Mediaite

Chris Matthews chatted with DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz tonight and things got awkward fast when they dived into talking about Bernie Sanders.

Matthews asked Wasserman-Schultz if, even if he loses, Sanders would have a place at the DNC convention, seeing as how he’s really popular with the base and could fire up a Democratic audience before the election.

She said he should get to speak, but Matthews kept prodding away to see if he would be allowed to speak in primetime instead of “when nobody’s watching.”

Gotcha! Chris Matthews Pictured Marching For Hillary In July 4 Parade

By Tim Graham, Jul. 4, 2015, Newsbusters

Jamie Dupree sent this fascinating tweet on Saturday, a picture of MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews marching in a suburban DC parade next to a Hillary Clinton for President banner.

Those MSNBC folks have a natural talent for appearing to be all wrapped up in partisan Democratic politics. Could this just be Chris talking to a suburban friend? Even if so, he doesn't seem troubled by the possibility of a photo like this.

ICYMI: PolitiFact: Matthews: Cheney's post-Saddam Tactic Created ISIS

By Jon Geenberg, Sept. 15, 2015, PolitiFact

Even as President Barack Obama rallies support to attack the forces of the Islamic State, the military group also known as ISIS and ISIL, he is taking barbs from both the hawks and the doves. The former, like Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, back military engagement but skewer the president for having failed to act earlier. The doves doubt that a military response will do more than breed new enemies of the United States.

This pincer movement galls Obama’s fans who feel he is unfairly blamed for a disaster he inherited.

In the closing seconds of MSNBC’s coverage special immediately after the president’s address on ISIS on Sept. 10, Hardball host Chris Matthews leveled this dig at a major backer of the original invasion of Iraq, former Vice President Dick Cheney.

"Do not listen to Dick Cheney," Matthews said. "He's the one that created al-Qaida by taking over the holy land in Saudi Arabia. He’s the one that de-Ba’athisized the Iraqi government and created ISIS."

Chris Matthews Takes Netanyahu To The Woodshed For Trying To ‘Take Over U.S. Foreign Policy’ (VIDEO)

By Stephen D. Foster, Mar. 3, 3015, AddictingInfo.org

In response to Benjamin Netanyahu’s fluff-filled speech to Congress, MSNBC host Chris Matthews blasted the Israeli Prime Minister for trying to hijack U.S. foreign policy from President Obama.

During his speech to the Republicans who see him as their real leader, Netanyahu wasted no time in his mission to wreck diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Not only did he urge a rejection of the deal, he used Holocaust victims to equate Iran with Nazi Germany, accusing the Islamic nation of “gobbling up nation,” and accused President Obama of paving Iran’s “path to the bomb.”

Of course, when the AP fact-checked Netanyahu on both claims, they found he was playing fast and loose on the facts.

ICYMI: Chris Matthews Trashes 'Morning Joe' For Being 'Open To All People's Points Of View'

Noel Sheppard, May 23, 2013, Newsbusters

Clearly, Matthews doesn't like that as quite counter to what Hardball used to be when it was first on CNBC, the host - like most on that farce of a so-called "news" network - prefers now to have on guests that almost exclusively agree with and echo his opinion.

Maybe that's why his ratings are so lousy.

In Discussion About Bibi, Chris Matthews Attacks GOP For…Racism

Ken Shepherd, Oct. 29, 2014, NewsBusters

For the second night in a row, MSNBC's Chris Matthews gratuitously attacked Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus as someone who is almost singlemindedly devoted to disenfranchising black voters. Matthews made the remarks in the midst of a panel discussion about how Republicans like Priebus had glommed onto a report of a Obama administration official calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "chickenshit" in order to make political hay of the controversy.

Bill Gates' Solution To Income Inequality

Chris Matthews, Oct. 15, 2014, Fortune

Gates shares Piketty’s goal of spreading wealth, yet he doesn’t want to discourage the uber wealthy (like Gates) who are taking risks, investing in value-creating businesses, and helping the world through philanthropy. Gates’ solution? Shift the American tax code from one that taxes labor to one that taxes consumption. Now, this sounds like standard, right-wing economic theory. Consumption taxes are usually favored by the wealthy and by conservative economists because they tend to be regressive in nature. Since everyone—rich and poor—have to consume some amount of goods and services, and because the proportion of income spent is much higher for the poor than the rich, consumption taxes like state and local sales tax burden the poor more than the rich.

But this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Economists like Cornell University’s Robert Frank have long advocated for progressive consumption taxes that could do much to solve what they perceive as the ills of growing income inequality.

Matthews: Travel Ban ‘Easy’ Choice For Cons-- ‘Segregate’ The ‘Leper Colony’

MSNBC host Chris Matthews
By Al Weaver, Oct. 17, 2014, Dailycaller.com

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Friday the idea of a travel ban is an “easy” decision for conservatives, and likened the possibility to simply segregating the Ebola-stricken people in areas away from the U.S.

Matthews made the comments on “Morning Joe.”

“It’s easy. It’s the easiest argument in the world. In many ways, it replicates the larger problem liberals have. It’s more complicated to be a liberal,” said Matthews. “To be conservative you simply have to say, look, common sense: segregate these people off from us, leper colony, keep away.”

“It’s easy because if we’re quarantining individuals, why can’t we quarantine countries,” he said. “And on the Democratic side, I think there is an implicit sympathy. Why do we want to do that to people? But, the way the doctors explain it, it’s very complicated.”

“I can’t understand their argument really,” he added.

Co-host Joe Scarborough told Matthews he still does not understand what good a travel ban would do, saying if conservatives brought forth a “logical reason” for a travel ban, it could be a possibility.
