Highlights Of The Happy Hour Debate

The 10 highest-polling candidates in the Republican 2016 presidential field took the stage tonight at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, for the first debate of the election.
The candidates participating in the forum were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, neurosurgeon Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, businessman Donald Trump and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Carly Fiorina Wins Early Fox Debate

The only campaign Carly Fiorina has ever run was a failed challenge to Sen. Barbara Boxer in 2010. Her résumé comes from the corporate world — she led Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2000, and her record was, shall we say, mixed — but you wouldn't have known it by watching her performance on Thursday.

Poll: Carly Fiorina Makes Top 10 in Two National Polls
Fiorina has often been critical of the female Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and has said she wants the opportunity to debate Clinton.
Public Policy Polling released a new national poll last week, which has Fiorina tied for sixth place with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%
and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)93%
The PPP listed the GOP candidates in the following ranking:
Donald Trump with 19%
Scott Walker with 17%
Jeb Bush with 12%
Dr. Ben Carson and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)80%
with 10%
Mike Huckabee with 8%
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Carly Fiorina, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) with 4%
Chris Christie and John Kasich with 3%

Why Aren’t More Women’s Groups Fighting to Get Carly Fiorina Into The GOP Debate?

Yes, the presidential election is more than a year out, but how quickly now do we approach the first winnowing. On Aug. 6, 10 Republican candidates will take the stage in Cleveland for the first primary debate of the 2016 election cycle. Fox News, which is hosting the debate with Facebook, says it will determine which 10 candidates will participate based on an average of five as-yet-unspecified national polls.
There is a top tier of candidates we can safely say will be there: former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, for instance, and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. But below the handful of front-runners, as Bloomberg's Steven Yaccino wrote last week, many microphones are up for grabs. Single percentage points may decide the fates of contenders such as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, former New York Governor George Pataki, and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

Fiorina: Trump Tapping Into An ‘Anger’

Carly Fiorina said in an interview Sunday that fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is “tapping into an anger that I hear every day.”
“People are angry that a commonsense thing like securing the border or ending sanctuary cities is somehow considered extreme,” she told ABC’s “This Week.” “It's not extreme, it's commonsense. We need to secure the border.”
“People are also angry at a professional political class of both parties that talks a good game, gives good speeches, but somehow nothing ever really changes,” she added. “And people are angry as well at a double standard in the media.”
Fiorina said she had not been asked a “single question” about Trump’s comments on immigration during six days in New Hampshire.

Walker, Fiorina Stand Out At Conservative Gathering
This weekend, I attended the Centennial Institute of Colorado Christian University's annual Western Conservative Summit in Denver. The red-eye flight on Saturday night to D.C. gave me plenty of time to sort my impressions before appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" the following day, during which host Jake Tapper went out of his way to over-allocate time to me — perhaps as a sort of welcome to an ambassador from fly-over land. Here's what I reported to him:
1. While there is considerable division within conservatives generally and among Republican activists specifically on whether state legislatures and electorates ought to allow for same-sex marriage, there is near unanimity among all on the center-right that it was judicial imperialism to impose it by the majority vote of nine unelected justices, not one of whom, as Justice Scalia pointed out in his dissent, is an evangelical Protestant or even from other than an Ivy League background. Justice Kennedy would not be denied his "hero status," even if his otherwise long-defended federalism jurisprudence had to be disfigured to accomplish his own song of self.

Carly Fiorina Seeks To Redefine Feminism In 'State Of Women In America' Address
Carly Fiorina will give an address on "the state of women in America" on Thursday night that reveals her intention to redefine the word, "feminist."
"A feminist is a woman who lives the life she chooses," Fiorina said. "We will have arrived when every woman can decide for herself how to best find and use her God-given gifts. A woman may choose to have five children and home-school them. She may choose [to] become a CEO or run for president. I am conservative because I know we are all equal in the eyes of God — men and women."
The former Hewlett-Packard CEO turned Republican presidential candidate has also been critical of conservatives' outreach to female voters in the past, and organized the Unlocking Potential Project to turn out women voters in the 2014 midterm elections.
Fiorina will talk about her success in the business world — from secretary to CEO — and how gender impacts the obstacles women face, according to her prepared remarks provided by her campaign.

Carson, Fiorina Launch 2016 Bids As Diversity Of GOP Field Grows
The GOP presidential field grew by two Monday as retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former technology executive Carly Fiorina both announced they are running for president.
The two new candidates enter a quickly expanding GOP field as Democrats get off to a relatively slow start, with another Republican -- former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee -- set to make his announcement on Tuesday. Together, Carson and Fiorina add to the diversity on the Republican side; Fiorina is the first, and possibly only, female Republican in the race, while Carson is the first black candidate of either party to enter the campaign.
Carson formally launched his campaign in his hometown of Detroit on Monday.
"I'm Ben Carson, and I'm a candidate for president of the United States," Carson said, after being introduced with a series of musical acts.
In his soft-spoken tone, Carson blasted big government -- and the Affordable Care Act -- while also acknowledging his history of controversial comments. He described his candor, however, as an asset.

NOONAN: “I think Carly Fiorina had the best line here. Her criticism of Hillary was that getting on a plane and going some place is something you do, it’s an activity. It is not an achievement. You know, I think that kind of broke through the other day.” [crosstalk]
CARDONA: “And that was a good talking point, but when you go back and look at what her achievements might have been at HP, eh, you know.” [crosstalk]
DICKERSON: “Let me ask, before we get to the Fiorina-Clinton knockdown, Mark, the fundraising questions for Clinton, how big a problem?”
HALPERIN: “They’re big and they’re careless. Look, I have sympathy for the Clintons on this on this because they were taking money to do great work around the world. But she has known she has wanted to run for president. Taking money from foreign governments which, when she was in State Department they didn’t think was an acceptable good idea, continuing to give paid speeches, I don’t quite understand why when this is clearly areas of vulnerability, why she keeps doing these things, why she allowed these things to happen. Really it’s almost inexplicable, because this gives Republicans something to talk about. It gives them something that does break through, you know, plays right in to the narrative about the Clintons.”
