Chris Matthews' Wife Runs First Campaign Ad During GOP Debate

By Derek Hunter, Aug 07, 2015 Daily Caller

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is married to Kathleen Matthews, a former local DC news anchor and executive at Marriot Hotels. She’s also a candidate for Congress, seeking the Maryland U.S. congressional seat being vacated by Democrat Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who is running for the state’s open Senate seat.

Matthews, a progressive Democrat, chose to run her first campaign ad on Fox News during the fiery first Republican debate. Her ad features the GOP field on television screens in the background, including a single-shot of Donald Trump.

“Watching the Republicans run for president makes me proud to be a Democrat,” Matthews says in her commercial’s opening. “Because our party stands up for working women, good wages, upward mobility, better health care — including the choices we have a right to make.”

Chris Matthews Hopes Fox Asks GOP Candidates About Evolution

By Kyle Drennen, Aug 06, 2015 NewsBusters

During MSNBC’s 4 p.m. ET hour pre-debate coverage on Thursday, Hardball host Chris Matthews called on Fox News moderators to grill the Republican presidential candidates on evolution: “So I would like to think that Fox is just brazen enough to ask some – what they call bizarre questions....If a person doesn’t believe in science or evolution or the evidence of our life on this earth, that’s a bad start. Okay?”

Matthews fondly recalled GOP contenders being pressed on the issue during a primary debate in 2007: “You know, they [Republicans] get really mad – back when we did the Reagan Library debate a couple cycles ago and somebody asked, John Harris of Politico, who believes in evolution here? A reasonable question....And they get really mad at that because it exposed a couple of them to a particular point of view about science.”

Giuliani On Trump: 'We Might Have A Little Reagan Here'

By Ian Schwartz, Aug 05, 2015 Real Clear Politics

In an appearance on MSNBC's Hardball Wednesday evening former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) praised Donald Trump, saying he has a little bit of Reagan in him.

"First of all, he's not a Roman candle," Giuliani told host Chris Matthews. "This is a very smart guy. This is a person who is media savvy in ways that some of the other candidates aren't. And he's a lot more substantive than you realize. I've know Donald 25 years. Meaning, he understands a lot of the world issues with a lot more depth than you probably realize."

"So we might have a little of a Ronald Reagan here, a guy they underestimate," Giuliani observed. "And in my particular case, I'm personal friends with five or six of them. And I have a hard time deciding who I'd like to see be president and I'm probably going to take a little while. But I expect Donald Trump is going to do pretty darn well tomorrow night."

Baffled Chris Matthews: Why Do So Many Hate 'Moderate' Obama?

By Scott Whitlock, Aug 04, 2015 NewsBusted

A baffled Chris Matthews on Monday night wondered why so many people hate the "moderate" Barack Obama. Matthews cited a new poll finding hostility towards the President. An incredulous Matthews sneered, "Thirty three percent of this country, across the board, is very negative towards Obama, very negative. Personally, they just don't like him."

The Hardball anchor speculated, "Now, it could be all those reasons. He turned out to be more of an aggressive president, more of a Democratic-advocate president, a black-advocate president." With no sense of self awareness, Matthews insisted, "I think he's [Obama's] been moderate, myself."
