LAPD Officer Accused Of Trying To Smuggle Mexican Citizen Across Border

A 10-year LAPD officer and a second person were charged by federal prosecutors Monday with trying to smuggle a Mexican citizen into the United States in the trunk of a car at the Otay Mesa border crossing.

Officer Carlos Curiel Quezada Jr., 34, and Angelica Godinez, 31, were stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Saturday evening when they drove a white 2014 Nissan Juke through the border crossing.

The pair showed their passports and said they were headed to Mission Hills, according to the federal charging document. But when the car was inspected by a device that acts like an X-ray machine at a secondary inspection point, authorities noticed something unusual about the trunk.

When law enforcement popped the trunk, they found Antanasio Perez-Avalos, 26, hiding in the spare tire compartment, according to federal prosecutors.

Perez-Avalos “is a Mexican citizen with no legal ability to enter the United States,” U.S. Customs officials said.

Under the president’s new amnesty, businesses will have a $3,000-per-employee incentive to hire illegal immigrants over native-born workers because of a quirk of Obamacare.

President Obama’s temporary amnesty, which lasts three years, declares up to 5 million illegal immigrants to be lawfully in the country and eligible for work permits, but it still deems them ineligible for public benefits such as buying insurance on Obamacare’s health exchanges.

The man who goes by the name of Marcelo Marquez and is now in custody for the shooting deaths of two California sheriff’s deputies was previously deported twice from the United States. In addition, the Mexican national is not only an illegal immigrant but was also convicted of being in possession of drugs in 1997.

Following his conviction, the 34-year-old Mexican was deported but returned again to the United States. He was arrested and deported again in 2001. Although he had been known as Marcelo Marquez, a fingerprint match has now identified him as Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte, although there is no confirmation as to whether this name was also a previously assumed identity.

A massive manhunt began Friday after Marquez – or Monroy-Bracamonte – shot and killed a sheriff’s deputy after a traffic stop in Sacramento, California, at around 10.30 in the morning. As he attempted to give law enforcement officers the slip, Marquez hijacked two civilian vehicles and later fired upon two more deputies as they approached the stolen pickup in which he was traveling. In that shooting, another deputy was killed, while his partner was wounded.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The man accused in a shooting rampage that left two sheriff's deputies dead and a motorist seriously wounded was living in the United States illegally. He had been convicted in Arizona for selling drugs and deported to Mexico twice.

Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte's background almost certainly should have flagged him for expulsion again. But he appeared to be living quietly with his wife in a suburb of Salt Lake City until his arrest Friday after the shootings in Northern California.

Investigators were trying to determine how he avoided scrutiny.

The man arrested on Friday said he was 34-year-old Marcelo Marquez of Salt Lake City when he was taken into custody, but his fingerprints matched biometric records of Monroy-Bracamonte in a federal database, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Virginia Kice said. He was first removed from the country in 1997 after a conviction for possession of drugs for sale in Arizona, then arrested and repatriated to Mexico again in 2001.

The fact that this even happened at all is insane to me, and then the fact that Obama bragged about it is even crazier. The man is just rubbing it in our face that he has absolutely no regard for the law.

President Obama bragged to Hispanics Thursday night that he rode over to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 37th Annual Awards Gala event with two illegal ‘DREAMERS.’

Despite his promise to not “give up this fight until it gets done,” a few audience members were unsatisfied and interrupted the president’s politically motivated speech.

Is the term "illegal alien" racist? What is the appropriate term to describe the status of those who broke our laws either by illegally entering or over-staying the time allowed under a student, work or other temporary permit?

Cindy Rodriguez of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists considers the term "illegal" to be a pejorative, used by "reactionary commentators and politicians" and "radio talk shows."

"If you can control the words people use," Rodriguez says, "you can frame the issue... That's how propaganda works. Repeat the words continually until it reshapes the way people think."

Attorney Gloria Allred represented gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman's Mexican-born housekeeper. Allred said the term "alien" should apply only to those "from outer space."

Words matter.

The term "illegal alien" does not only apply, of course, to persons of Mexican or Hispanic heritage. "Illegal alien" is a race- and ethnicity-neutral term. The U.S. Code defines an "alien" as "any person not a citizen or national of the United States."

The word "alien" appears numerous times in the U.S. Code and is applied to those who live here legally (tourists, resident aliens, students on visas), as well as to those who live here illegally.

The term "illegal alien" is used throughout U.S. law in statutes and court cases - all referring to non-U.S. citizens who illegally enter and/or unlawfully stay here. The code painstakingly defines the procedures to grant "immigrant status" to an alien - a privilege reserved for those who follow the law.

Guess what term doesn't appear in U.S. immigration law? "Illegal immigrant."

People like Rodriguez worry - not without reason - that terms like "illegal alien" will harden attitudes and cause voters to oppose policies like the Dream Act, allowing driver's licenses for those here illegally and bilingual education. But changing words to advance one's political agenda does not make it right or fair. Calling people "racist" for using the term "illegal alien" to distinguish between those here legally and illegally is, well, racist.

Words matter. Words like "racist" and "anti-Hispanic" are used to attack people who raise fair questions about the costs and problems associated with "illegal aliens." This shuts down debate. When amnesty opponent Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., a Hispanic son of Cuban exiles, is called "anti-Hispanic" by the CEO of Univision, we have a problem.

Debate gets shuts down when "comprehensive immigration reform" proponents call others "racist" for rejecting the politically correct term "illegal immigrant" or "undocumented worker." What is wrong with the legally accurate and more precise term "illegal alien"?

Guess that makes me a racist - and Sen. Rubio a Tio Taco.

Mexican Gov't Paying To Help Shield Illegals In U.S. From Deportation

The government of Mexico is paying to help its citizens who are living illegally in the United States avoid deportation.

According to a report from National Public Radio, the Mexican government through its 50 consulates around the United States has been helping to fund low-income illegal immigrants to apply for President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA — which shields illegal immigrants from deportation and allows them to work in the U.S.

NPR’s report details the story of Tania Guzman, an illegal immigrant who said the cost of applying for DACA worried her, but she was able to afford it after her pro-bono lawyer from Public Counsel told her she could access financial help from the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles.

Mexico paid for all Guzman’s attorney fees and application fees, according to NPR. In the end Guzman told NPR she paid just $50.

The report explains that since 2012, the year DACA began, the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles has assisted more then 260 Mexican illegal immigrants apply for protections under DACA.

Julian Escutia, an official with the Mexican Embassy in Washington, told NPR that it does not keep track of how many illegal immigrants’ DACA applications they fund, and that funding is “on a case-by case basis.”

LA Times Now Describing Illegal Aliens As 'Informal Workers' Who 'Labor Unofficially'

Via Weasel Zippers, we learned the Los Angeles Times has a new term for illegal aliens in the work force: they’re “informal workers,” and that doesn’t mean they don’t arrive on the job in a tuxedo.

Times reporter Tiffany Hsu (a "UC Berkeley grad") began her Saturday story with the new I-word (and illegal immigrants also “labored unofficially” in "gray employment"):

Informal workers are growing part of California’s economy — a shift keenly felt in the construction industry, where 1 in 6 workers is either off the books or misreported, new research has found.

Construction businesses in the state employ roughly 895,000 workers, according to a report by downtown Los Angeles research group Economic Roundtable that was released Sunday. In 2011, 143,900 of those workers labored unofficially...

In specialty trades such as drywall and flooring, a quarter of laborers are considered informal, according to the Economic Roundtable.

Construction in California is a $152-billion industry, one in which so-called gray employment has surged 400% since 1972. The upswing has been especially pronounced since the most recent recession because only two-thirds of the formal construction jobs that disappeared have since returned...

The Economic Roundtable report recommends a wage floor that allows informal and formal workers to be paid the same amount and also suggests that legislators enact policies that reward on-the-level contractors.

The headline on the website was "1 in 6 California construction workers labors in shadows, study finds."

SAN DIEGO -- Four persons charged with the kidnapping for ransom of a woman in Los Angeles earlier this month have been confirmed as illegal aliens--and one has been confirmed as “arrested and repatriated to Mexico three times since 1999," including earlier this year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed to Breitbart News.

ICE stated that the four (above, and below) are not U.S. citizens, having no “legal basis to be in the U.S.” and told Breitbart News that it "has lodged immigration detainers against all four suspects charged in connection with the kidnapping for ransom incident,” according to a spokesperson.

Democrat Support for Amnesty Threatens Their Most Loyal Voters

In 1964, Malcolm X chastised black people for their blind allegiance to the Democratic Party.

He said: "You put them first, and they put you last -- 'cause you're a chump. A political chump! ... Anytime you throw your weight behind a political party that controls two-thirds of the government, and that Party can't keep the promise that it made to you during election time, and you are dumb enough to walk around continuing to identify yourself with that Party -- you're not only a chump but you're a traitor to your race."

The Democratic Party embraces "comprehensive immigration reform," which is code for amnesty, which, in turn, is code for "keep the borders porous so that we get a constant stream of new Democratic voters and cheap labor."

Attorney Peter Kirsanow, one of eight members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, says that unskilled illegal aliens pose an economic threat to unskilled Americans, a disproportionate amount of who are black.

Last year, Kirsanow, along with two other committee members, sent a letter to his congresswoman, Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. The letter advised Fudge and the rest of the caucus to oppose the Democrats' proposed amnesty legislation. "Illegal immigration," said the letter, "has a disparate impact on African-American men because these men are disproportionately represented in the low-skilled labor force. ... The obvious question is whether there are sufficient jobs in the low-skilled labor market for both African-Americans and illegal immigrants. The answer is no. ... Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants will only further harm African-American workers."

What about the urban crime caused by some illegal aliens?

From Oct. 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, over 57,000 unaccompanied alien children, or UACs, have been apprehended entering the country illegally. Many voluntarily turn themselves over to authorities with the goal of obtaining "permiso" to remain in the country. Not only do they pose a threat to jobs, but also we have no idea how many are intent on entering the country to commit crimes. According to Pew Research, some 85 to 90 percent of the "children" apprehended at the border are teens, between 13 and 17 years of age.

In Los Angeles, in 2008, 17-year-old high school academic/athletic scholar Jamiel Shaw was shot and killed just three doors away from his house while walking home from the mall at 8:40 p.m. The student athlete with a solid GPA was a promising football star who had been named the Southern League's most valuable player, and he'd recently received phone calls from schools like Rutgers and Stanford. His killer? An illegal alien who had served time in jail for assault with a deadly weapon and been released one day earlier by police who, apparently, never bothered to check his immigration status.

Hours after his release, he killed Shaw. Shaw's crime? Wearing a red Spider-Man backpack. The color red, in the mind of the killer, meant that Shaw was member of some rival gang. He was not.

Only days ago, four people were arrested for the beating death of a Chinese graduate student attending USC, a school located right in inner-city Los Angeles. One of the four admitted that, seven years ago, he entered the country illegally. Whether, as was the case with Shaw's killer, this illegal alien had a post-entry arrest record, we don't yet know.

In Maryland, just days ago, six young Hispanics -- illegal aliens, according to a local ABC affiliate -- were arrested for stabbing to death a black homeless man. Several of the alleged killers admitted belonging to the notorious MS-13 gang.

Republicans should exploit the Democratic embrace of "comprehensive immigration reform" by emphasizing the threat illegal aliens pose to jobs. Back in 1994, the majority of California's black voters supported Proposition 187, which would have prevented illegal aliens from getting taxpayer-paid public education and non-emergency medical benefits. Opponents challenged it in court, and the governor ultimately gutted the proposition. But it passed not only among the majority of white voters, but the majority Asian and black voters as well.

The GOP has a lot to make the case for the black vote. Consider:

Black voters support voter photo ID, despite Attorney General Eric Holder's denunciation of such laws as "racist." Some polls put black support for voter ID at over 70 percent.

While Obama pursues "economic justice," black Democrats like Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., have called the black unemployment rate "unconscionable."

Polls show inner-city parents want vouchers so they can opt out of underperforming government schools. So do Republicans.

Republicans support securing our borders before discussing the legalization for the 10-12 million estimated illegal aliens here now. Recent polls show Republicans put "stopping the flow of illegal aliens" as their top legislative issue.

In 1964, blacks voted 80 percent Democratic. Fifty years later, it's 95 percent. What would Malcolm say?

(Reuters) - A cargo train used by Mexicans and Central Americans to travel toward the U.S. border derailed in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca on Wednesday, stranding about 1,300 migrants, emergency services said.

Many of the migrants aboard were young people and nobody was injured when the train nicknamed "the Beast" came off the tracks, a spokesman for local emergency services said.

Since last October, more than 50,000 unaccompanied minors, most from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, have been caught illegally crossing the southwest border of the United States.

Children say that they are fleeing violence at home and hope that they will be able to stay in the United States.

Several days of heavy rain in southern Mexico may have caused the train to derail, authorities said.

McALLEN, Texas — In the back hall of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, women picked through tables heaped with baby clothes and diapers. Some munched on sandwiches. Others showered or napped on cots in air-conditioned tents in the parking lot.

Each time a new woman walked in, immigration documents in hand, the dozen or so church volunteers dropped what they were doing and applauded.

The women — some pregnant, most young and all of them with children — are part of a rising influx of immigrant moms who are flooding Texas' southern border with Mexico, compounding the crisis of unaccompanied minors.

"I just want a better life for my daughter," said Brenda Vasquez, 24, who came to this border town with her 4-year-old daughter, Mariana Rodriguez, from the La Libertad region of El Salvador. "I want her to have a future."

The unprecedented influx of immigrant youth overwhelming federal shelters has captured most of the headlines and roiled debate in Washington over how to solve the crisis. More than 52,000 unaccompanied minors, mostly from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, have illegally crossed over this fiscal year, nearly four times the number two years ago.

But an equally alarming — and less publicized — tide of women from those same countries are crossing over each day, children in tow. They're employing the same strategies as the unaccompanied minors: crossing the Rio Grande near McAllen and turning themselves in to the nearest Border Patrol unit.

Border Patrol statistics show it's not just children crossing. The number of all immigrants — men, women and children — other than Mexicans arrested at the Southwest border has soared from 46,997 in fiscal year 2011 to nearly 150,000 last fiscal year.

CATCH AND RELEASE

Because there is only one federal family immigration shelter in operation, in Pennsylvania, women from Central America who illegally cross the border with a juvenile are arrested but then typically are released until their court hearing, said Linda Brandmiller, a San Antonio immigration attorney who represents many of the families. The moms can also be immediately deported by Border Patrol, but that, historically, is a rarer occurrence, she said.

In essence, women with children are afforded the same immigration practice as unaccompanied minors — release pending court hearing. Federal officials are scrambling to outfit a law enforcement training facility in Artesia, N.M., to house some of the overflow immigrant families.

Border Patrol agent Hector Garcia on Thursday accused the Obama administration of “aiding, abetting and facilitating the smuggling of illegal aliens across the border.”

In an interview with CNN, Garza said the current influx of illegal immigrants is “organized” and “orchestrated” by the drug cartels. Additionally, he said the federal government is giving illegal immigrants a “free pass.” He said the feds are using the equivalent of the honor system in asking illegal immigrants to later report to an immigration hearing — even though the majority of them will never do so.

With resources being diverted to process illegals, the crisis then allows drug cartels to sneak illegal drugs and weapons across the U.S. border undetected, he explained.

Garza later argued that U.S. taxpayers are going to be on the hook to provide for the immigrant families.

“How do you expect a mother from Honduras that is crossing the country with 3 to 5 children, and they’re all young-aged children, how do you expect for that mother who comes to this country to actually begin working?” he asked.

He continued: “This illegal alien who comes to this country with 3 to 5 kids is gonna depend on our welfare system, on government assistance. And you know what? That is costing the taxpayer a lot of money.”

 A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say.

 In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.
