Obama Shielding 80% Of Nation’s Illegals From Deportation

By Stephen Dinan, July 23, 2015
Washington Times

President Obama’s executive actions on immigration shield more than 80 percent of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country from any danger of being deported, a top immigration think tank reported Thursday.

As part of his November amnesty Mr. Obama announced a program to proactively grant a temporary deportation amnesty to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants. But he also directed immigration agents not to bother deporting millions of others, even though they weren’t eligible for the official amnesty, which grants work permits and other benefits.

MORE THAN 347,000 CONVICTED CRIMINAL IMMIGRANTS AT LARGE IN U.S.

By Caroline May July 7, 2015, Breitbart

According to a March 2, 2015 “ICE Weekly Departures and Detention Report” obtained by Center for Immigration Studies expert Jessica Vaughan and shared with Breitbart News, there were 168,680 convicted criminal immigrants who had final orders of removal but who remained at large in the U.S.

Another 179,018 convicted criminal immigrants with deportation cases pending also remained at large.

While the vast majority were not in custody some were detained — namely 6,220 criminal immigrants facing final deportation orders and another 7,680 convicted criminal immigrants with immigration cases pending.

In recent years there has been a focus on the number of annual criminal immigrant releases.

Immigration: Man Arrested In Connection With San Francisco Killing Had Been Deported Several Times

By Judson Berger, Jul. 4, 2015, Fox News

The man arrested in connection with the seemingly random killing of a woman who was out for a stroll with her father along the San Francisco waterfront is an illegal immigrant who previously had been deported five times, federal immigration officials say.

Further, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says San Francisco had him in their custody earlier this year but failed to notify ICE when he was released.

"DHS records indicate ICE lodged an immigration detainer on the subject at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so ICE officers could make arrangements to take custody. The detainer was not honored," ICE said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Obama Administration Scales Back Deportations In Policy Shift

By Jerry Markon, Jul. 2, 2015, Washington Post

The Obama administration has begun a profound shift in its enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws, aiming to hasten the integration of long-term illegal immigrants into society rather than targeting them for deportation, according to documents and federal officials.

In recent months, the Department of Homeland Security has taken steps to ensure that the majority of the United States’ 11.3 million undocumented immigrants can stay in this country, with agents narrowing enforcement efforts to three groups of illegal migrants: convicted criminals, terrorism threats or those who recently crossed the border.

While public attention has been focused on the court fight over President Obama’s highly publicized executive action on immigration, DHS has with little fanfare been training thousands of immigration agents nationwide to carry out new policies on everyday enforcement.

AZ Man In Sanctuary Gets Stay Of Deportation, Can Spend Father's Day With His Kids

By Aliah Shaheed, Jun. 19, 2015, Latino Fox

An undocumented immigrant father who entered sanctuary in a Tucson church to avoid deportation for the second time will get to go home again.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials granted Daniel Neyoy Ruiz, 37, another one-year stay of deportation after his first stay expired on June 10th.

Neyoy Ruiz quietly took sanctuary in Tucson’s First Christian Church earlier this month. The church planned a public announcement for Daniel’s re-entering into sanctuary on Thursday.

But ICE officials threw him a lifeline hours before the event was to take place, informing him that his stay would be renewed.

“After conducting another review of Mr. Neyoy-Ruiz’s immigration case, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has granted Mr. Neyoy-Ruiz an additional one-year stay of removal. At the end of that period, ICE will re-evaluate the case to determine the appropriate next steps,” said ICE spokesperson Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe in a statement.

Court Orders Feds To Find And Return Deported Mother And Daughter From Guatemala

By Franco Ordonez, Jun. 19, 2015, McClatchy D.C.

WASHINGTON — A U.S. Court of Appeals judge has ordered U.S. officials to intercept a mother and her 12-year-old daughter on plane Friday being deported to Guatemala and immediately return them to the United States.

The 34-year-old mother, Ana, and her daughter were woken up at 3 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday and pulled from their rooms at a Pennsylvania family detention center, where they had been living for over a year, said her attorney, Bridget Cambria. By 10 a.m., the two were placed on a plane flying to Panama City, where they would catch a second flight to Guatemala City.

In a rare move that will likely draw more attention to the controversial practice of family detention, Chief Judge Theodore A. McKee of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ordered U.S. officials to stop Ana and her daughter when they arrive in Guatemala City and immediately return them to the United States.

Mexico Deports More Central Americans Than The United States

By Associated Press, Jun. 18, 2015

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico now deports more Central American migrants than the United States, a dramatic shift since the U.S. asked Mexico for help a year ago with a spike in illegal migration, especially among unaccompanied minors.

Between October and April, Mexico apprehended 92,889 Central Americans. In the same time period, the United States detained 70,226 "other than Mexican" migrants, the vast majority from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

That was a huge reversal from the same period a year earlier, when the wave of migrants and unaccompanied minors from Central America was building. From October 2013 to April 2014, the United States apprehended 159,103 "other than Mexicans," three times the 49,893 Central Americans detained by Mexico.

Report: Illegal Immigrant Deportations Plunged Even Before Obama's Amnesty

Caroline May, Dec. 5, 2014, Breitbart

The decline in removals last year was due, however, not simply to the administration’s enforcement priorities — which place a focus on removing criminals and recent border crossers rather than undocumented immigrants who are not convicted of crimes outside of their immigration status — The LA Times reports that the border surge of unaccompanied illegal minors from Central America played a factor.

Deportations Drop To Their Lowest Level In Obama Administration's Six Years

Fox News Latino, Dec. 5, 2014

President Barack Obama’s deportation rate has reached a record once again, but in the other direction.

Fewer immigrants were deported in the last year than ever during the Obama administration, according to the Los Angeles Times, which obtained a draft report by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The newspaper noted that the drop – deportations were down by 14 percent – occurred despite a rise in the number of people who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

Many Latinos Shun Obamacare For Fear Of Getting Relatives Deported

Soumya Karlamangla and Chad Terhune, Nov. 9, 2014, Los Angeles Times

Lilian Saldana turned down Obamacare coverage once, and she might do it again.

With sign-ups set to resume Saturday, the 23-year-old Covina resident and her younger sister are hesitant to enroll because their parents are immigrants who are not citizens and therefore ineligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act.

Saldana, an after-school tutor, admits she could put the insurance to good use for a checkup, but she worries about putting her parents at risk or creating a rift at home.

"We've always done things together as a family," she said.

California Cop Killer Was Deported Twice

Marcelo Marquez after deadly shootings,
Oct. 24, 2014
By Graham Noble, Oct. 25, 2014, Guardianlv.com

The man who goes by the name of Marcelo Marquez and is now in custody for the shooting deaths of two California sheriff’s deputies was previously deported twice from the United States. In addition, the Mexican national is not only an illegal immigrant but was also convicted of being in possession of drugs in 1997.

Following his conviction, the 34-year-old Mexican was deported but returned again to the United States. He was arrested and deported again in 2001. Although he had been known as Marcelo Marquez, a fingerprint match has now identified him as Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte, although there is no confirmation as to whether this name was also a previously assumed identity.

A massive manhunt began Friday after Marquez – or Monroy-Bracamonte – shot and killed a sheriff’s deputy after a traffic stop in Sacramento, California, at around 10.30 in the morning. As he attempted to give law enforcement officers the slip, Marquez hijacked two civilian vehicles and later fired upon two more deputies as they approached the stolen pickup in which he was traveling. In that shooting, another deputy was killed, while his partner was wounded.

Harvard Student Who Took Dying Mom To Mexico Gets Humanitarian Visa

By Associated Press, Oct. 14, 2014, CBSNews.com

LOS REYES LA PAZ, Mexico -- Only hours after the publication of an Associated Press story on his case, the U.S. government has issued a humanitarian visa enabling the return of a Harvard University student who broke immigration rules by taking his dying mother to Mexico.

Dario Guerrero, 21, was born in Mexico and moved with his family to California when he was 2. The Obama administration granted him and hundreds of thousands of other young immigrants a reprieve from deportation two years ago.

But these people can't leave the U.S. without government approval. And Guerrero's mother was dying of cancer.

Desperate to save her, Guerrero took his mother to clinics in Mexico before getting that approval. She died there in August, and he's been stuck since then. The U.S granted his request to return Tuesday.

When his mother's cancer treatments were failing in the U.S., Guerrero found clinics offering alternative treatments in Mexico and took his mother across the border, hoping to keep her alive.

In doing so, he knowingly broke a rule by leaving the U.S. without federal authorization.

"He panicked. His dad and mom wanted him to go, and he did the best thing he thought he could do for his family," said his lawyer Alan Klein.

Guerrero had lived in the United States illegally since he was 2. His parents brought him from Mexico City to California, and they overstayed tourist visas. He breezed through school, earning a scholarship to a John Hopkins University summer school program at 13.

Eventually, along with hundreds of thousands of other young immigrants, Guerrero was granted a temporary reprieve from the threat of deportation under a 2012 Obama administration order.

In Just 6 months, 37,477 Illegal Immigrant Kids Released--Only 280 Deported

By Paul Bedard, Aug. 29, 2014, Washingtonexaminer.com

The Obama administration has released a huge majority ofillegal immigrant children who poured over the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this year into dozens of tony counties without notifying the public, while deporting just 280, according to new reports.

The Health and Human Services Department released a listof 126 counties 29,890 of the kids were placed into, sometimes with their parents who are also in the United States illegally.

Those counties include some of the most exclusive in the nation, including the Washington suburbs of Fairfax and Loudoun in Virginia and Howard and Montgomery in Maryland. Fairfax received 1,023.

States like California and New York were given large numbers of the unaccompanied children, while President Obama’s home state of Illinois, where experts expected many to go, received only 175, according to the list.

The HHS statistics covered only January to July. Federal officials expect another huge surge of children from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala to begin next week when the temperatures cool. One independent expert said that the second wave this year could include another 30,000 illegal children.

In 1964, Malcolm X chastised black people for their blind allegiance to the Democratic Party.

He said: "You put them first, and they put you last -- 'cause you're a chump. A political chump! ... Anytime you throw your weight behind a political party that controls two-thirds of the government, and that Party can't keep the promise that it made to you during election time, and you are dumb enough to walk around continuing to identify yourself with that Party -- you're not only a chump but you're a traitor to your race."

The Democratic Party embraces "comprehensive immigration reform," which is code for amnesty, which, in turn, is code for "keep the borders porous so that we get a constant stream of new Democratic voters and cheap labor."

Attorney Peter Kirsanow, one of eight members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, says that unskilled illegal aliens pose an economic threat to unskilled Americans, a disproportionate amount of who are black.

Last year, Kirsanow, along with two other committee members, sent a letter to his congresswoman, Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. The letter advised Fudge and the rest of the caucus to oppose the Democrats' proposed amnesty legislation. "Illegal immigration," said the letter, "has a disparate impact on African-American men because these men are disproportionately represented in the low-skilled labor force. ... The obvious question is whether there are sufficient jobs in the low-skilled labor market for both African-Americans and illegal immigrants. The answer is no. ... Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants will only further harm African-American workers."

What about the urban crime caused by some illegal aliens?

From Oct. 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, over 57,000 unaccompanied alien children, or UACs, have been apprehended entering the country illegally. Many voluntarily turn themselves over to authorities with the goal of obtaining "permiso" to remain in the country. Not only do they pose a threat to jobs, but also we have no idea how many are intent on entering the country to commit crimes. According to Pew Research, some 85 to 90 percent of the "children" apprehended at the border are teens, between 13 and 17 years of age.

In Los Angeles, in 2008, 17-year-old high school academic/athletic scholar Jamiel Shaw was shot and killed just three doors away from his house while walking home from the mall at 8:40 p.m. The student athlete with a solid GPA was a promising football star who had been named the Southern League's most valuable player, and he'd recently received phone calls from schools like Rutgers and Stanford. His killer? An illegal alien who had served time in jail for assault with a deadly weapon and been released one day earlier by police who, apparently, never bothered to check his immigration status.

Hours after his release, he killed Shaw. Shaw's crime? Wearing a red Spider-Man backpack. The color red, in the mind of the killer, meant that Shaw was member of some rival gang. He was not.

Only days ago, four people were arrested for the beating death of a Chinese graduate student attending USC, a school located right in inner-city Los Angeles. One of the four admitted that, seven years ago, he entered the country illegally. Whether, as was the case with Shaw's killer, this illegal alien had a post-entry arrest record, we don't yet know.

In Maryland, just days ago, six young Hispanics -- illegal aliens, according to a local ABC affiliate -- were arrested for stabbing to death a black homeless man. Several of the alleged killers admitted belonging to the notorious MS-13 gang.

Republicans should exploit the Democratic embrace of "comprehensive immigration reform" by emphasizing the threat illegal aliens pose to jobs. Back in 1994, the majority of California's black voters supported Proposition 187, which would have prevented illegal aliens from getting taxpayer-paid public education and non-emergency medical benefits. Opponents challenged it in court, and the governor ultimately gutted the proposition. But it passed not only among the majority of white voters, but the majority Asian and black voters as well.

The GOP has a lot to make the case for the black vote. Consider:

Black voters support voter photo ID, despite Attorney General Eric Holder's denunciation of such laws as "racist." Some polls put black support for voter ID at over 70 percent.

While Obama pursues "economic justice," black Democrats like Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., have called the black unemployment rate "unconscionable."

Polls show inner-city parents want vouchers so they can opt out of underperforming government schools. So do Republicans.

Republicans support securing our borders before discussing the legalization for the 10-12 million estimated illegal aliens here now. Recent polls show Republicans put "stopping the flow of illegal aliens" as their top legislative issue.

In 1964, blacks voted 80 percent Democratic. Fifty years later, it's 95 percent. What would Malcolm say?

77% Want Illegals Sent Home

Add caption
By Paul Bedard, Jul. 28, 2014, Washingtonexaminer.com

A huge majority of Americans, 81 percent, believe the newimmigration crisis of unaccompanied children streaming over the U.S.-Mexico border is serious, and almost as many want them gone -- some even if it's not safe to return, according to a new poll.

In an Economist/YouGov.com survey, however, the public isn't heartless in how they view the plight of the children, with 66 percent expressing sympathy for their situation that drove them north, where U.S. Border Control officers are catching the new arrivals for immigration processing.

But while there is an understanding among many Americans that some of the children are fleeing violence in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, a majority, 57 percent, believe the illegal immigrants are coming to America because they believe “that the U.S. government is or will be granting amnesty to undocumented immigrant children,” said the new poll.

By Stephen Dinan, May 12, 2014, The Washington Times

Immigration officials knowingly released dozens of murderers and thousands of drunken drivers back into the U.S. in 2013, according to Obama administration statistics that could undercut the president’s argument that he is trying to focus on the most serious criminals in his immigration enforcement.

Among the 36,000 immigrants whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released from custody last year there were 116 with convictions for homicide, 43 for negligent manslaughter, 14 for voluntary manslaughter and one with a conviction classified by ICE as “homicide-willful kill-public official-gun.”

The immigrants were in deportation proceedings, meaning ICE was trying to remove them from the country and could have held them in detention but released them anyway, according to the Center for Immigration Studies, which published the numbers Monday. The Washington Times also obtained the data.

“This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the president and perpetrated by our own immigration officials,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. “The administration’s actions are outrageous. They willfully and knowingly put the interests of criminal immigrants before the safety and security of the American people.”

The data raised thorny questions about how the government decides which immigrants to detain and which it will release as they await court hearings and final action on deportation.

Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies, said the numbers undercut the Obama administration’s argument that it is trying to keep its enforcement efforts targeted at dangerous criminals.

“We keep hearing from the administration that they are focused like a laser on enforcement against the worst of the worst, convicted criminals, as their top priority. On the other hand, they are releasing, at a rate of about 100 a day, aliens from their custody with criminal convictions, and many of them are serious criminal convictions,” she said.

In a statement, ICE said many of those it released were subject to electronic monitoring, posting bond or having to check in with officers.

By Victor Davis Hanson, Apr. 17, 2014, Twonhall.com

Solving the illegal immigration problem should not be hard. No one knows how many foreign nationals are residing illegally in the United States -- estimates range from 11 million to 20 million. But everyone understands that it is an untenable situation that must be addressed.

The two extreme positions of the Left and Right probably have little public support -- on the one hand, blanket amnesties and open borders, and on the other, deportation of all foreign nationals who reside here without legal authorization.

Polls show that most Americans want something in between.

Close the border. Allow entry only to those who have legal permission. Ensure that employers hire only those foreign nationals who have valid green cards. Permit those who have resided here for a while, who are without criminal records and are employed, to apply inside the U.S. for either a pathway to citizenship or legal residence.

Require that those residing here unlawfully pay a fine for breaking the law and wait in line until immigrants who followed the law are first processed. Reform legal immigration to make it ethnically blind and predicated on skill sets and education rather than on proximity to our borders or on family connections to those residing here unlawfully.

Most would agree with those sensible reforms, but I doubt that we will see any such grand bargain. The trouble is not, as the Democratic and Republican establishments allege, because of xenophobic and nativist bigots. Only a minority now favor sending every undocumented immigrant home without a chance for the hard-working and law-abiding to stay here while they apply for citizenship.

The problem instead is that the establishments of both parties talk in high-minded fashion but in fact act selfishly. Unfortunately, identity-politics elites and Democratic Party activists, along with employers of undocumented workers, do not support such a grand bargain.

By Susan Jones, Apr. 16, 2014, Cnsnews.com

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) is among the Democrats pressing Congress to take up immigration reform. On Tuesday, he told a conference call that deportations are breaking families apart and leaving children in foster care.

"So the human toll has been horrific. This president, by implementation of existing law, has been forced to deport a huge number of Americans."

Although Garcia may consider the deportees to be "Americans," legally they are not. But they might become citizens if Garcia and other immigration advocates get their way.

Democrats are urging Republicans to sign their discharge petition, which would force a House vote on immigration reform. They said they have 191 of the 218 signatures they need to force the bill to a vote.

"This is our last effort to do this in a legislative fix. That is what we need -- a legislative fix that fixes this problem once and for all," Garcia said.

Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), also part of the conference call, said the people affected by the "broken" immigration system "look like America."

By Ann Coulter, Apr. 3, 2014, Newsbuster.org

Last Sunday, The New York Times published a front-page article about the heartfelt need of California farmers for more illegal aliens.
The first tip-off that heinous public policy ideas were coming was that the Times introduced farmer Chuck Herrin, owner of a farm-labor contracting company, as a "lifelong Republican." That's Times-speak for "liberal."
Herrin admitted that he employs a lot of illegal aliens and bitterly complained that they lived in fear of "Border Patrol and deportations." (But, apparently, he doesn't live in fear of admitting he's violating our immigration laws.)
Sorry that running a country inconveniences you, Chuck.
He said his illegal alien employees deserved amnesty because if "we keep them here and not do anything for them once they get old, that's really extortion."
As the punch line goes, "What's this 'we,' paleface?"
Taxpayers have been subsidizing Chuck Herrin's underpayment of his illegal labor force for decades, with skyrocketing taxes to pay for schools, roads, bridges, food stamps, health care and so on. Now Herrin thinks "we" are supposed to support his illegal employees in their old age, too.
Here's another idea: How about a federal law mandating that employers of illegal aliens take responsibility for the people they hire? Why is the taxpayer on the hook for illegal aliens' food, housing and medical care, when Chuck Herrin got 100 percent of the profit from their cheap labor?
