Ben Carson: 'I Believe I Can Be President'

With the latest Quinnipiac poll showing him tied for first place with four other GOP hopefuls, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said he believes there is a possibility he could actually become president.

The campaign is the first political race for the retired neurosurgeon, but that recent poll put him at 10 percent, tied for first, with the likes of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

When asked Sunday by ABC's "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos, "Are you starting to believe you can be president?" Carson replied, "I certainly believe that that is a possibility."

But, he added, voters should look at everything all the candidates are saying before making up their minds.

Carson also addressed the statement by one of his presidential rivals, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who recently blamed the creation of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Republican hawks.

That's not what ABC News This Week host and chief anchor George Stephanopoulos delivered when he interviewed me about my new book on the Clinton Foundation last month. There's a reason. Though Stephanopoulos belatedly disclosed $75,000 in donations to the foundation, he has yet to disclose his much deeper relationship with the Clinton Foundation.

When Stephanopoulos invited me on his Sunday program, I knew that he had worked as a top adviser and campaign manager to President Bill Clinton in the 1990s, but I didn't know about his donations or his other ties to the foundation founded and overseen by the former president and his wife, potential future president Hillary Clinton.

Geraldo Rivera: ABC Fired Me Over A $200 Donation

Geraldo Rivera says that he was fired by ABC because he donated $200, and he wants to know why George Stephanopoulos is being treated so differently by the same network.

"In 1985, after fifteen great years, I was fired by ABC News," Rivera wrote in a post on his Facebook page Friday. "The official reason for my firing was a non-disclosed $200 donation to a family friend running in a non-partisan mayoral campaign in New Bedford, Massachusetts."

However, Rivera, who now works for Fox News, contends that the real reason he was fired was because of an unrelated reason — he "was estranged at the time from my boss Roone Arledge" because he had "complained publicly after Roone spiked a colleague's 20/20 story about the Kennedy brothers' relationship with Marilyn Monroe."

But the reason given for his firing was the "undisclosed $200 donation."

NEW YORK (AP) -- George Stephanopoulos apologized to viewers Friday for donating $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation and failing to disclose it earlier, as ABC News now finds its chief anchor in a credibility crisis on the eve of a presidential campaign.

Stephanopoulos said on "Good Morning America" that the donations, made in three increments to the foundation started by his one-time boss, former President Bill Clinton, were a mistake.

"I should have gone the extra mile to avoid even the appearance of a conflict," the "GMA" and "This Week" host said. "I apologize to all of you for failing to do that."

Stephanopoulos rose to the top ranks at ABC over 18 years and worked to establish himself as an independent journalist despite skepticism by some in politics because of his background as a top aide to Clinton's 1992 campaign and later in the White House. The donations brought that issue back to the fore just as Hillary Rodham Clinton is launching her presidential campaign.

ABC News President James Goldston has not addressed whether Stephanopoulos will be disciplined. The network said in a statement Thursday that it stands behind Stephanopoulos and that the anchor made an honest mistake. ABC said Stephanopoulos voluntarily removed himself as a moderator for ABC's planned coverage of a GOP presidential debate next February.

The ABC anchor has admitted he donated the money to the Clinton Foundation. Republicans do not want to let the matter die.

ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos, who for 15 years expertly navigated his re-invention from tough Clinton operative to respected television journalist, has finally—and perhaps inevitably—slipped up.

His mistake, by any definition, is a beaut—no doubt prompting a blush of shame and putting the network news division on the defensive.

It turns out that the 54-year-old Stephanopoulos—who served as a top aide in Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign and first White House term before leaving to teach, write an acclaimed memoir and join ABC—failed to disclose to his ABC News bosses $75,000 in contributions he made to the Clinton Foundation.

Worse, he didn’t tell viewers, keeping silent about the potential conflict of interest even as he conducted a contentious interview April 26 on his Sunday panel show,This Week With George Stephanopoulos, with Clinton Foundation critic Peter Schweizer, author of Clinton Cash.

With word emerging today that ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos gave “$50,001 to $100,000” to the Clinton Foundation, the network will soon face the Brian Williams Quandary — is its top “newsman” trustworthy when delivering news.

Stephanopoulos only disclosed the donations to the nonprofit when asked about them by a reporter from the Free Beacon (choosing to control the story through a statement to friendly liberal outlet, Politico).

In dozens and dozens of stories and interviews on the Clintons, the chief anchor never mentioned his hefty gifts. In fact, he fiercely questioned author Peter Schweizer last month about his book “Clinton Cash,” making unilateral statements that the book was hogwash.

“As you know, the Clinton campaign says you haven’t produced a shred of evidence that there was any official action as secretary that supported the interest of donors,” Stephanopoulos said. “We’ve done investigative work here at ABC News, found no proof of any kind of direct action. And an independent government ethics expert at the Sunlight Foundation Bill Allison wrote this: ‘There’s no smoking gun. No evidence that the changed policy is based on donations to the foundation. No smoking gun.’ Is there a smoking gun?”

ABCs George Stephanopoulos Failed To Disclose $50K Clinton Foundation Donation

ABC News host and former Clinton White House aide George Stephanopoulos has apologized for failing to disclose that he donated $50,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

The failure to disclose the donations raises serious conflict of interest concerns, especially in light of a recent interview Stephanopoulos conducted with the author of a book that questions how the Clinton Foundation operates.

The Washington Free Beacon first investigated Stephanopoulos’ donations. ABC News then alerted Politico that the longtime Democratic strategist gave $25,000 in both 2013 and 2014 to the Clinton Foundation.

Last month, Stephanopoulos conducted an interview with Peter Schweizer, the author of the book “Clinton Cash.”

The police force probably should be dismantled and allow the St. Louis County police a better trained force, a more qualified force, a larger force to actually come in and conduct policing in a totally different way that restores the trust of the people, that shows respect to the people who pay their salaries and to start and to stop judging people by the color of their skins and criminalizing it because of what color they are, which is evident — is what was happening up to this point in Ferguson and surrounding communities.

OBAMA: “The policy of my administration is to encourage transparency, and that’s why my emails, the Blackberry that I carry around, all those records are available and archived.”

WRIGHT: “Hey, are you excited to be in Iowa?”

BUSH: “I am. I am.”

WRIGHT: “Here in Iowa Jeb Bush has his own baggage to deal with.”

HARRIS: “She has sidestepped as we saw in Florida the email issue. But this story seems to have legs. How big a problem is it for her?”

STEPHANOPOULOS: “Well, I think we’re going to find out. I don’t think necessarily it’s going to necessarily, it’s not going bring down her campaign and I think it does raise questions about a pattern of kind of hunkering down in the Clinton world. We’ll also see if her critics overreact on this one but there’s no question that those emails are going to be to turned over, most of them are going to come out. The question will be what is inside them? Is there anything damaging there? If not I think this tends to blow over, but I think this was a wake-up call to the Clinton campaign about the kind of questions they’re going to be getting all through this process.”

ABC's George Stephanopoulos First To Interview Darren Wilson

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos is currently poised to land the first interview with Darren Wilson, the Missouri police officer whose fate will be decided following the announcement of a grand jury ruling on Monday night, industry sources told POLITICO.

Members of the media who were jockeying for the first sit-down with Wilson were recently told that Stephanopoulos, the chief anchor and chief political correspondent for ABC, had won rights to the interview. That agreement is subject to change: Wilson could decide to forego interviews altogether and, if he is indicted, will not be able to give an interview. Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., in August, and has not been seen in public since the shooting.

Video captured by C-SPAN in 1996 shows George Stephanopoulos, then a “senior adviser” to President Bill Clinton, accepting on Clinton’s behalf the endorsement of then Democratic state Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, among others.

Earlier in the video, Shaheen endorses Clinton’s re-election campaign—an endorsement, among the others in the video, Stephanopoulos was there to accept on Clinton’s behalf.

“For 25 years, [State Sen.] Susan McClane has served in the House and Senate of this state as the conscience to remind us in New Hampshire that the values we’ve outlined are the family values that we all should support,” Shaheen said. “She’s here today to point out that it’s President Clinton who’s the only candidate for re-election—for the presidency in 1996—that truly supports those family values.”

CNNMoney: Obama Admits 95% Of Income Gains Gone To Top 1% --Was he bragging or complaining?

In an interview that aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," the show host cited a recent study from the University of California, Berkeley, that found 95% of income gains from 2009 to 2012 went to the top 1% of the earning population.

The president agreed with Stephanopoulos.

"The folks in the middle and at the bottom haven't seen wage or income growth, not just over the last three, four years, but over the last 15 years," the president said.

In fact, other data also show that America's median household income has dropped by more than $4,000 since 2000, after adjusting for inflation.

During the interview, Obama said his priority as president has been to stabilize the economy and create jobs. He said the country has made progress with 42 straight months of economic growth and 7.5 million new jobs in the private sector.

His other focus he said has been to chip away at the growing trend of income inequality.

The president cited his efforts to tax the rich more, make health care more affordable, and usher in financial reforms to avoid future bailouts funded by taxpayers.

However, Stephanopoulos pressed the president, highlighting again that the economic recovery since the financial crisis has overwhelmingly favored the richest Americans.

"Do you look at that, four and a half years in, and say, 'Maybe a president just can't stop this accelerating inequality?'" he asked.
