Akram I. Musleh long sought to join ISIS, federal court documents allege, hoping to travel overseas to join the terrorism group as a fighter. 

The Brownsburg teenager's alleged involvement began on social media in 2013, according to court documents, when he posted videos of terrorist leaders. FBI agents spoke with Musleh back then, hoping to prevent him from pursuing extremism. The teen told investigators he posted those videos simply to understand Islam's history.

Pope Francis on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the "new colonialism" of austerity, describing unfettered capitalism as “the dung of the devil” and apologising for the Catholic church's role in the conquest of indigenous populations in the Americas.

He delivered a powerful mea culpa on the part of the church in the highlight of his South American pilgrimage, "humbly" begging forgiveness during an encounter in Bolivia with indigenous groups and other activists and in the presence of Bolivia's first-ever indigenous president, Evo Morales.

The first Latin American pope noted that church leaders in the past had acknowledged that "grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God." St. John Paul II, for his part, apologized to the continent's indigenous for the "pain and suffering" caused during the 500 years of the church's presence in the Americas during a 1992 visit to the Dominican Republic.

'Terrorism has gone viral': US officials, lawmakers warn of growing jihad-inspired attacks

Top U.S. officials and lawmakers on Sunday intensified concerns about the growing threat of jihad-inspired terror attacks against the United States, after last week’s attempt in Texas and the dire FBI warning that followed.

“I think there’s been an uptick in the stream of threats out there,” Texas GOP Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, told “Fox News Sunday.” “We’re seeing these directives on almost a daily basis. It’s very concerning. Terrorism has gone viral.”

McCaul’s comments follow the May 3 attack by two gunmen outside a “Draw Muhammad” event in Garland, Texas.

Tweets by one of the two gunmen, killed by police in the attack, appear to link him to radical Islamic terror groups. And Internet chatter purportedly tipped off officials about a possible attack on the event.

On Thursday, FBI Director James Comey said the attack, in which a security officer was shot in the leg, highlights the difficulties the FBI faces -- as social media facilitates communication between terror groups and potential homegrown extremists.

He also said the Islamic State terror group has thousands of English-language followers on Twitter, including many in the U.S.

Morgan Freeman argued Thursday that the unrest in Baltimore is spurred by “the terrorism we suffer from the police” and questioned why so many black people are dying at the hands of white officers.

The Academy Award-winning actor was interviewed by Newsweek to promote his new film with Diane Keaton called “5 Flights Up,” in which New York is thrown into chaos over a suspected terrorist attack. Mr. Freeman said the film does not share similarities to recent real-life events, Newsweek reported.

“That unrest [in Baltimore] has nothing to do with terrorism at all, except the terrorism we suffer from the police,” the 77-year-old star said. “And the fact that now that’s out in the open.”

The small-circulation paper generally is left-leaning, using cartoons and fake news reports to take shots at those generally in powerful positions.

Germany Could Be Home To 7,000 Muslim Extremist By Christmas

German authorities fear there could be as many as 7,000 Muslim extremists in the country by the end of the year. Disenfranchised youths are particularly vulnerable to being recruited, while there are around 450 German extremists in Syria and Iraq.

The extremists all follow the strict interpretation of Islam known as Salafism and believe that jihad is a legitimate tool in their fight against the West, which they believe is an enemy of Islam. Hans-Georg Maassen, who is the head of Germany’s BfV domestic intelligence agency,told rbb-Inforadi that there are currently around 6,300 Islamic extremists in Germany, but this figure could rise to as many as 7,000 by the end of the year, AP reports.

There has been a steep rise in the number of Germans attracted to fundamentalist Islam. Three years ago there were only in the region of 3,800 followers of Salafism in the country, which then rose to 4,500 in 2012.

Leaked DHS Report Reveals 13 Foreign Suspected Terrorists Illegally Entered Canada from US

At least 13 men from Africa with terrorist-related records illegally entered Canada from the U.S. since 2010, according to a leaked Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Intelligence Information Report exclusively obtained by Breitbart Texas. The data pertains only to one small region of the vast U.S.-Canadian border. The report reveals that as of September 9, 2014, there have been 155 encounters in the area “involving 344 ethnic Somalis, 21 ethnic Ethiopians, five ethnic Kenyans, two ethnic Djiboutians, two ethnic Nigerians, and one ethnic Sudanese and Congolese subjects who have attempted or succeeded in entering Canada illegally near the Pembina, ND Port of Entry (POE) since June 2010. These encounters INCLUDE 13 SUBJECTS WITH TERRORIST-RELATED RECORDS [Emphasis Added] who have utilized this method of circumventing designated POEs.”

The report lists several ethnic Somalis who have U.S. addresses and official Alien Registration Numbers issued by the U.S. government, who the report indicates are either included, or should be included, into the Terrorist Screening Database. The subjects’ addresses span from Southern California to Ohio.

The Islamic State released a new video, this time showcasing one of their “training camps.” But the video is widely thought to be a “staged set of exercises”– not a realistic day to day camp.

“Throughout this entire video, what you have is a staged set of exercises,” Anthony Cordesman, expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said. “You look at them and this really isn’t a training exercise. It’s a video exercise.”

But what’s most disturbing is the names on the equipment they’re using. We knew they had some U.S. equipment, but actually seeing it on video makes the reality even worse.

NBC: Military Spokesperson--Shooting Apparently Not Related To 'Terrorism Or Radicalism' --Why so quick to dismiss?

Four people were dead, including the gunman, and at least 16 others were wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, military officials told NBC News.
The gunman, identified as Ivan Lopez, 34 — an enlisted soldier — took his own life with a .45-caliber Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, officials said. 
A U.S. military official told NBC News that Lopez was an active-duty soldier who was assigned to a Sustainment Brigade.
All of the wounded and killed were also military, according to Lt. General Mark Milley, who spoke to reporters at the base after the shooting.
Milley, who didn't use Lopez's name pending family notification, said that the gunman was being evaluated for post traumatic stress disorder, and had self reported a traumatic brain injury.
The soldier had not been wounded in Iraq, but was being treated for behavioral problems, anxiety and "a number of other psychological issues," according to Milley.
The soldier "put his hands up and then reached under his jacket" when a female officer drew her weapon, Milley said. "He pulled out the gun, and she engaged, and he put the weapon to his head."
“Experience has taught us many things here at Fort Hood. We know the community is strong .... The soldiers who have served so bravely through the last 13 years in Iraq are strong, and we will get through this.”
Milley said that the shootings didn't appear to be related to terrorism or radicalism but that nothing had been ruled out so early in the investigation. 
The soldier's body was found in a parking lot near the First Medical Brigade area, Milley said. His weapon had been bought in the area recently and wasn't registered with the base.
Three other people died in local hospitals, Milley said.
Doctors at Scott & White Memorial Hospital said they were treating eight patients — seven men and one woman. Three of the patients were said to be in critical condition and on ventilators, while five others were in serious condition.
