Obama "Hiding The Documents Under...A Flimsy And Imprecise Use Of Presidential Executive Privilege"

Now years after former Attorney General Eric Holder was voted into both criminal and civil contempt of Congress, President Barack Obama continues to hide from the U.S. Congress—and the American people—documents related to the Operation Fast and Furious gun walking scandal. President Obama himself is hiding the documents under what is generally considered a flimsy and imprecise use of presidential executive privilege.

As such, with the latest news that the deadly scandal may be connected to more carnage inside the United States—specifically the Garland, Texas terrorist attack earlier this year—Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Reince Priebus is calling on the president to be transparent once and for all with regards to Fast and Furious.

Eric Holder: The 'Possibility Exists' That Edward Snowden Could Come Home

In a subtle yet remarkable shift in tone, former Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday that the "possibility exists" that the Justice Department could forge a deal with fugitive leaker Edward Snowden that could bring him home.

Speaking to Yahoo News, Holder said "we are in a different place as a result of the Snowden disclosures," adding that Snowden's revelations about the size and scope of the National Security Agency's sweeping surveillance programs "spurred a necessary debate.

"I certainly think there could be a basis for a resolution that everybody could ultimately be satisfied with. I think the possibility exists," Holder said.

The current system of reforming police is broken—here's how to fix it

Headlines lately have been filled with news of the recent rise in violence: In Baltimore last month, there were 43 homicides and dozens of shootings. Homicides in New York City and Chicago are up about 15% and 18%, respectively, compared to last year. After 20 years of successful policing that had reduced crime to record lows, are we in danger of seeing a return to what we experienced in the 1990s, when there were high murder rates, and our streets seemed to be owned by criminals? Unfortunately, I believe it’s possible.

Presently, police forces in more than 30 cities are either under investigation by the Department of Justice or have signed consent decrees with the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. The allegations are that those departments have either engaged in brutality or have deprived citizens of their civil rights. In spite of the fact that use-of-force complaints, and civilian complaints of all kinds, have been down, it appears that the DOJ under former Attorney General Eric Holder was on a mission to reform policing in the United States.

As I’ve written before in TIME, this War on Police is causing a demoralization of police officers throughout our country. Our new attorney general, Loretta Lynch, has an opportunity to fix this.

Eric Holder: Delay On Lynch Nomination Makes 'Little Or No Sense

Attorney General Eric Holder is breaking his silence on the nomination of Loretta Lynch.

“You’ve got this person who was qualified, apparently unopposed by their witnesses, who have negative feelings about the sitting attorney general who was going to stay here, committed to the work that I’m doing, and yet, they have held her up for reasons that make, from my perspective, little or no sense,” Holder told MSNBC on Friday.

Holder’s interview marks 132 days since President Barack Obama announced Lynch’s nomination. Only Ed Meese, attorney general under Ronald Reagan, has waited longer to be confirmed.
