Katie Couric To Ted Cruz: Do You Have 'Any Empathy' For Immigrants?

By Scott Whitlock, Jul. 1, 2015, Newsbusters

Katie Couric conducted a condescending interview on Yahoo with Ted Cruz, asking the Republican if he has "any empathy" for immigrants as he opposes Barack Obama. The presidential candidate also zinged the liberal journalist, reminding her that it was Hillary Clinton who first started the birther campaign.

After insisting to Cruz, "you've worked to block every legislative action to allow undocumented immigrants to remain legally," Couric lectured, "So, given the fact that your father immigrated here from Cuba, do you have any empathy for people who come here looking for a better way of life?"

Ted Cruz: 'Rogue Justices" Ought To Resign And Run For Congress

Credit: ivn.us
By Seth McLaughlin, June 25, 2015, The Washington Times

Sen. Ted Cruz delivered a full-throated critique Thursday of the Supreme Court, saying that it is clear that the “rogue justices” that ruled in favor of Obamacare subsidies are “lawless” political foot soldiers that have joined forces with the Obama administration.

Speaking on the Senate floor, the Texas Republican and 2016 GOP presidential candidate said that if the “justices want to become legislators, I invite them to resign and run for office.”

The remarks came shortly after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Obama administration is lawfully doling out Obamacare’s subsidies in dozens of states despite contested language in the law that sparked a legal battle with major political and economic ramifications.

The Real Takeaways From The Halperin-Cruz Interview

Credit:  Tom Willimas/CQ  Roll Call/Getty
By David Limbaugh, May 12, 2015, HumanEvents.com

Liberal media honcho Mark Halperin really showed his “colors” as he tried to de-Hispanify Sen. Ted Cruz in an interview for Bloomberg Politics over the weekend.

If you like arrogant, condescending, rude, insolent and patronizing Beltway journalism, you may appreciate Halperin’s performance. If you are a person of ordinary sensibilities, however, and not so intoxicated with the leftist worldview that you are incapable of dispassionately assessing the segment, you will have a different reaction.

What first struck me about the interview was not so much the objectively asinine questions Halperin asked but his obvious motive and attitude in asking them. Aside from a few throwaways, all of his questions were aimed at exposing Cruz as an inauthentic Hispanic. And as insulting as that is, there is something more noteworthy about it that some are missing in all the hubbub about the interview.

Halperin’s unstated premise underlying his questions is that one cannot have a bona fide Hispanic heritage if he doesn’t continue to bathe himself in the Hispanic culture and view American politics from a Hispanic prism. If you are ethnically Hispanic but have assimilated into American culture and embrace the American idea of government, you ought not be entitled to lay claim to your ethnicity or to receive support from the Hispanic community. Halperin and his liberal friends apply the same standards to assess African-American candidacies.

Latino Columnist 'Nauseated' By 'Racist' Halperin Queries Testing Cuban Heritage of Ted Cruz

By Tim Graham, May 10, 2015, Newsbusters

Bloomberg TV host Mark Halperin drew a serious rhetorical beating from Washington Post-syndicated columnist Ruben Navarrette over his prove-you’re-a-Cuban line of questioning to Ted Cruz on his program With All Due Respect. (The “respect” seemed to be missing, or as phony-sounding as it can be during an argument.) The interview came on April 30, but the columnist just picked up the argument. Would a liberal Latino get this line of questioning? And notice that Halperin has a grim visage during these questions, like it’s an interrogation, not a friendly chat. (Nice edits via Digitas Daily):

Ted Cruz Immigration Crackdown Advocacy Sparks Fierce Hispanic Backlash

By Seth McLaughlin, Mar. 23, 2015, Washingtontimes.com

Sen. Ted Cruz announced a bid for the White House on Monday, drawing praise from grass-roots conservatives but a fierce backlash from Hispanic groups that said they were appalled at the prospect of the first Hispanic to announce for president this cycle being such a firm champion of a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

The freshman lawmaker, whose father was Cuban, has been one of the most vocal opponents of President Obama’s immigration policy. He voted against a legalization bill in 2013 and helped lead opposition to the administration’s deportation amnesty over the past six months.

Announcing his candidacy at Liberty University, Mr. Cruz sounded familiar conservative themes and said he believes “God isn’t done with America yet.”

“I believe in you. I believe in the power of millions of courageous conservatives rising up to reignite the promise in America,” he said.

Mr. Cruz is the first elected Hispanic Republican in history to seek the White House, but Hispanic groups found little to celebrate in the groundbreaking moment.

Netanyahu Endorses Ted Cruz For President

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz
By Conservative Fifty, Jan. 30, 2015

* TEL AVIV, ISRAEL: In a nearly unprecedented move, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has endorsed a candidate in the 2016 race for President of the United States. Netanyahu made his announcement during an early morning press conference Friday.

Traditionally, the protocol among heads of state has been to steer clear of any and all political endorsement of other candidates or incumbent heads of state, and to not in any way be involved in the elections of other nations.

But perhaps being fueled by anger after recently learning that current U.S. President, Barak Obama has at US taxpayer expense, sent a team of his political operatives into Israel ahead of Israel’s March 17, 2015 elections in an effort to unseat Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister has broken the long standing protocol and gotten involved in the US presidential race.

The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz recently reported that a U.S. taxpayer-funded non-profit by the name of OneVoice has been working inside Israel with a campaign operation called Victory 2015 in a joint effort to unseat Prime Minster Netanyahu, who they view as being“too anti-Islam” and “too hawkish”. Spokespersons for the operations say they intend to replace Netanyahu with a more “liberally progressive” candidate who will be more accommodating to the desires of Islamic nations in the region.

In a sharply damning response to Obama’s involvement in the Israeli election, staunchly pro-Israel U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R – Texas, and Congressman Lee Zeldin, R – NY -1 sent a letter on Thursday to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry requesting that Kerry launch an investigation into Obama’s involvement and any U.S. tax dollars being used.

The Knives Come Out For Senators Cruz And Lee

Andrew C. McCarthy, Dec. 20, 2014, National Review

But it gets better: The miffed senators huff that, because Cruz and Lee unexpectedly gave the majority leader weekend time to fill, Reid used it to move forward with a number of controversial Obama nominees to the federal bench and high executive-branch posts — nominees Republicans claim they had shrewdly planned to stall. You’re to believe these nominees got confirmed later in the week because Cruz and Lee, former Supreme Court clerks and highly accomplished lawyers, got outfoxed on parliamentary procedures.

Cruz Center Of Senate Meltdown

By Alexander Bolton, Dec. 13, 2014, Thehill.com

Sen. Ted Cruz, the firebrand conservative freshman from Texas, has blown up the Senate leadership’s plans to have a peaceful weekend by forcing round-the-clock votes on President Obama’s nominees and the $1.1 trillion omnibus.

Cruz took to the floor late Friday to castigate congressional leaders for trying to pass the 1,600-page spending bill after only a few hours of debate and questioned the resolve of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to fight Obama’s executive order protecting five million illegal immigrants from deportation.

“Even though millions of voters rose up just one month ago to protest how President Obama and the Senate Democrats were running Washington, business as usual is continuing inside the marble halls of the United State Congress,” Cruz said in a fiery floor speech.

Because of objections from Cruz and his ally Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the Senate will begin slogging through procedural votes on nominees starting at noon Saturday and vote to end a filibuster of the omnibus spending package at 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

Ted Cruz Pushes the House to Have All-Out Spending Fight on Obama Immigration Action

By Lauren Fox, Dec. 3, 2014, Nationaljournal.com

Sen. Ted Cruz is playing de facto House conservatives leader once again.

Taking the podium Wednesday at an outdoor presser beside the House's most vocal border security hawks, Reps. Steve King and Michele Bachmann, Cruz slid comfortably back into a familiar place: being a thorn in the side of elected House leaders.

While House Speaker John Boehner has been trying to rally Republicans around a plan to fund the government before the Dec. 11 deadline, the most-conservative members in the chamber want to confront President Obama's executive action on immigration more aggressively.

At Wednesday's press conference, it appeared that some of the House's hardliners are rallying around Cruz's strategy–gut Obama's effort on immigration by defunding it in the must-pass spending bill, now. Cruz is calling for a rider stripping funding for the executive action.

"We fought a bloody revolution to free ourselves from monarchs," Cruz said.

Cruz also accused members of Congress of not being honest with those who elected them a month ago.

"Do what you said you would do," he said.

Cruz then had a message for Democrats. He argued that Obama's actions set a precedent where any future president can discard congressional wishes on everything from immigration to taxes.

"What the president is doing is dangerous," Cruz said. "If the president doesn't have to follow the law, what is the point of electing Congress?"

Ted Cruz: Obama Is Not A Monarch

Sen. Ted Cruz, Nov. 19, 2014, Politico

President Obama was correct: His policies were on the ballot across the nation in 2014. The elections were a referendum on amnesty, and the voters soundly rejected it. There was no ambiguity.

Undeterred, President Obama appears to be going forward. It is lawless. It is unconstitutional. He is defiant and angry at the American people. If he acts by executive diktat, President Obama will not be acting as a president, he will be acting as a monarch.

(VIDEO) ‘Sat Night Live’ Skits Illegal? Ted Cruz Warns On Campaign Finance Reform

By Lisa de Moraes, Sept. 10, 2014, Deadline.com

A new proposal for campaign finance reform would make Saturday Night Live’spolitical skits illegal, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has warned. The Senate is debating a bill that would add a constitutional amendment allowing Congress reverse a 2010 Supreme Court decision and restore limits on corporate campaign spending. Republicans say the bill, proposed by Dems, is an attack on free speech. Cruz, however, went one step further and connected the dots to NBC’s late-night sketch comedy show, and its exec producer Lorne Michaels.

“Lorne Michaels could be put in jail under this amendment for making fun of any politician. That is extremely dangerous,” Cruz argued yesterday afternoon — tossing in a Dana Carvey impression to drive home his point. That’s because, Cruz insisted, the bill would give congress the “constitutional authority to prohibit” corporations “from engaging in political speech” and, “NBC, which airs Saturday Night Live, is a corporation.”

Ted Cruz: I'm Proud to Stand with Rick Perry

Sen. Ted Cruz
Source:  www.abcnews.com
By Rickperry.org, Aug. 17, 0214

Unfortunately, there has been a sad history of the Travis County District Attorney's Office engaging in politically-motivated prosecutions, and this latest indictment of the governor is extremely questionable.

Rick Perry is a friend, he's a man of integrity – I am proud to stand with Rick Perry.

The Texas Constitution gives the governor the power to veto legislation, and a criminal indictment predicated on the exercise of his constitutional authority is, on its face, highly suspect.

For Liberty,
Ted Cruz

P.S. I'm proud to stand with Governor Rick Perry, and I hope you are, too. Please join in showing your support for him online using the hashtag #StandWithRickPerry.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus: Cruz’s Actions ‘Absolutely Unconscionable’

Source:  www.breitbart.com
Credit:  Reuters
By Tristyn Bloom, Aug. 1, 2014, Dailycaller.com

A member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus called Sen. Ted Cruz’s stance on the migration crisis “absolutely unconscionable” at a press conference Friday.

Florida Rep. Joe Garcia had been asked what he made of the Republican House leadership “trying to accommodate and reassure some of their more conservative members, like Steve King and Michele Bachmann, and also take into account the concerns of some senators like Ted Cruz and Jeff Sessions.”

“As a Cuban American who realizes that I have special immigratory rights,” he said, “I am appalled that Senator Cruz, who not only received it from this from this country, but his native Canada–those special migratory rights–leads the charge to strip away people’s rights. It is absolutely unconscionable.” (RELATED: White House Says No Progress On Immigration Until Spending Bill Passes)

Cruz Urges House To Vote Against Boehner Immigration Bill

Sen. Ted Cruz
Source:  www.universalfreepress.com
By Robert Costa, Jul. 30, 2014, Washingtonpost.com

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), an influential tea party leader, will meet with a group of House Republicans Wednesday to urge them to oppose House Speaker John A. Boehner’s plan to stem the flow of migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to several House members who plan to attend the 7 p.m. gathering at Cruz’s office.

Cruz’s huddle is the latest example of the combative freshman senator wading into House affairs and serving as an informal whip against the leadership’s immigration position. It is also a direct shot at Boehner’s effort to pass his legislative package, hours before the bill is scheduled to come to the House floor on Thursday.

On Friday, the House adjourns for a five-week recess, leaving Boehner little time to cobble together the votes necessary to pass his proposal. “I think there is sufficient support in the House,” Boehner (R-Ohio) said after a meeting of the House Republican Conference on Tuesday. But he added, “We have a little more work to do.”

Fearing Obama Unilateral Amnesty Threats, Tea Party, Jams Congress's Phones

By Matthew Boyle, Jul. 28, 2014, Breitbart.com

The phone lines are jammed.

The American people have risen up in response to a rallying cry from Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), overloading the phone lines on Capitol Hill to pressure their members of Congress to fight against President Obama’s planned executive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

“I was on hold with the Capitol Hill switchboard about a minute or so each time I called my Representative and my two Senators,” Catharine Trauernicht, a Tea Party activist in Virginia, told Breitbart News Monday. “Typically, my calls are answered right away, but I always know that citizens have sprung into action when the switchboard recording comes on and says, ‘All of our operators are assisting other callers at this time.’”

When called by Breitbart News Monday at about 1:30 p.m., the Capitol Hill switchboard line was similarly busy.

“This shows the American people are going to resist,” a Sessions aide told Breitbart News. “The crescendo will grow. They are only beginning to be heard. They will get louder in the coming days.”

The calls are coming in response to Sen. Sessions, who last week asked the American people to rise up and pressure their elected leaders to stop the president from moving forward with any new executive amnesty. Obama has already granted executive amnesty to upwards of 800,000 illegal aliens through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which was initiated in 2012, and this year Obama is threatening to expand DACA to five to six million illegal aliens.
