On Nov. 8, 2011, President Obama met with then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Cannes after what had been a particularly rough week for US-Israeli relations.

The week prior, the UN agency UNESCO admitted Palestine as a member state. Congress responded by cutting off UNESCO’s funding, a move the Obama administration direly opposed. Michael Oren, who served as Israel’s US ambassador from 2009 to 2013, said the president, having opposed Palestine’s admission to the agency, “thought he had done enough . . . and did not need to punish them further.”

President Obama responded to Congress’ act by admonishing Israel for supporting it, with Deputy Secretary of State Tom Nides telling Oren, “UNESCO teaches Holocaust studies, for chrissakes. You want to cut off f–king Holocaust studies?”

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused world powers on Sunday of stepping up concessions to Iran to enable a deal by June 30 on curbing its nuclear program even as Tehran balks at demands for heightened U.N. inspections.

Netanyahu has argued that the agreement in the works would not deny Iran - which says its nuclear projects are peaceful - the means of making a bomb, while granting it sanctions relief that could help bankroll its guerrilla allies in the region.

"To our regret, the reports that are coming in from the world powers attest to an acceleration of concessions by them in the face of Iranian stubbornness," Netanyahu told his cabinet in broadcast remarks on Sunday. He did not offer further details.

Netanyahu's point-man on the Iranian talks, Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, said it appeared that world powers were prepared to accommodate Tehran's resistance to expanded, short-order U.N. nuclear inspections and demand to continue research and development of uranium centrifuges that make nuclear fuel.

Jerusalem (AFP) - An emerging deal between Iran and world powers won't prevent the Islamic republic from reaching nuclear weapon capacity, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday, noting Arab states shared his concern.

"I know I'm often portrayed as the nuclear party pooper, and that would be okay if I was the only voice against the impending deal with Iran," he said at a security conference at Herzliya near Tel Aviv.

"But I speak with quite a few with our neighbours, more than you think. And I want to tell you that nobody in this region believes this deal will block Iran's path to the bomb.”

Netanyahu's remarks came as a June 30 deadline looms for a deal that would row back Iran's nuclear programme in return for relief from sanctions, which Israel has long opposed, causing friction with the White House.

Israeli Premier Criticizes World's 'Silence' On Gaza Rockets

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday criticized what he described as the world's "silence" over recent rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, drawing a quick response from his country's closest ally, the U.S.

Netanyahu, speaking at his weekly Cabinet meeting, said he hadn't heard anyone condemn three rocket attacks from Gaza over the past two weeks. The rockets caused no damage, nor any injuries.

"It will be interesting to see if this silence continues when we use all our strength in exercising our right to defend ourselves," Netanyahu said. "It should be clear: the hypocrisy that is sweeping the world will not chain our hands from defending the citizens of Israel."

In Germany, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said U.S. officials had spent "a lot of time talking about this" during Israel's recent war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

A dismayed President Barack Obama recently vented to his friend and former chief campaign adviser David Axelrod about being perceived by some as a foe to Israel, according to JP Updates.com, The Daily Caller reported.

"'You know, I think I am the closest thing to a Jew that has ever sat in this office,'" Axelrod recalled during an interview. "'For people to say that I am anti-Israel, or, even worse, anti-Semitic, it hurts.'"

Opining on the deteriorated relationship between the U.S. and Israel, Axelrod criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for caring more about elections than the long-term security of his country.

"The world of politics everywhere is divided into two categories: the first and more common is the people who run for public office because they want to be somebody," he said. "A smaller group is made of respectable people who run for public office because they want to do something — something positive. Shape the future in a positive way. I think Benjamin Netanyahu completely falls in the first category.

Israeli Cabinet Unanimously Opposed To Iran Framework Nuclear Deal

Israel's security cabinet is united in its opposition to the framework deal reached between world powers and Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement issued following a special meeting said on Friday.

Netanyahu, who earlier spoke by phone with US President Barack Obama, saying that he was "vehemently opposed" to the agreement, was shortly expected to deliver a statement.

Obama called Netanyahu within hours of the deal being struck, saying it represented significant progress toward a lasting solution that cuts off Iran's path to a nuclear weapon.

But Netanyahu said in a statement after the conversation that a deal based on the framework announced in Lausanne, Switzerland "would threaten the survival of Israel."

"This deal would legitimize Iran's nuclear program, bolster Iran's economy and increase Iran's aggression and terror throughout the Middle East and beyond," Netanyahu said.

"It would increase the risks of nuclear proliferation in the region and the risks of a horrific war."

DICKERSON: “What did you feel about the administration’s — the way they’ve been playing this? You know, the relationship has to exist on Wednesday, Susan Rice’s comments.”

GOLDBERG: “Right.”

DICKERSON: “What was your reaction?”

GOLDBERG: “Well, the relationship is — this is a very, very important point you make. The relationship must exist and must function on Wednesday, because we’re about to head into this very intense period where if the United States makes this deal with Iran, it’s going to have to give strategic reassurance to not only Israel, but all of the Arab states. And so they have to have good communications and some level of trust. I would think, at this point, that the administration realizes that it needs to pull back a little bit from the heated rhetoric. There is — there is amnesty, genuine amnesty between this administration and the Netanyahu administration.”

DICKERSON: “What about —”

GOLDBERG: “But it’s too dangerous. You can’t have it at a certain point.”

DICKERSON: “And how about between the president and the prime minister?”

GOLDBERG: “Well, you know, I — I asked the president, in 2012, I asked him, I said, do you — are you and Netanyahu friends? And he gave me a very elegant answer. He said, well, you know, we’re so busy with our own jobs that it’s hard to — but that was [indecipherable] the point. They really don’t like each other. They really actively don’t like each other and trust each other. And that is a problem for allies.”

Washington (CNN)Is the Democratic party over for Israel?

For years, support for Israel has been one of the few reliably bipartisan issues on Capitol Hill, with members on both sides of the aisle embracing the embattled Middle East country and welcoming its leaders with open arms.

But when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted an invitation from Republican House Speaker John Boehner to address Congress on Tuesday — when he is expected to sharply criticize White House deal-making with Iran — he alienated more than the Democrat who sits in the Oval Office. As administration officials have exchanged increasingly hostile volleys with Netanyahu, party stalwarts are warning of a Democratic exodus away from Israel.

They caution that the rancor over the speech could accelerate demographic and political trends that suggest support for Israel is becoming a partisan issue, with Republicans strongly pro and Democrats less so.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three prominent US House Democrats are vowing to skip Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress next month, saying they disapprove of House Speaker John Boehner's decision to invite the Israeli leader without consulting President Barack Obama.

Reps. John Lewis, G.K. Butterfield and Earl Blumenauer said they won't attend Netanyahu's March 3 speech.

The White House also hinted Thursday that Vice President Joe Biden may not attend Netanyahu's speech, which is expected to focus on Iran. Spokesman Josh Earnest said Biden takes "very seriously" his responsibilities as Senate president, including his ceremonial duty to attend joint sessions of Congress. However, Earnest noted that Biden missed a joint session in 2011 because he was traveling abroad.

* TEL AVIV, ISRAEL: In a nearly unprecedented move, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has endorsed a candidate in the 2016 race for President of the United States. Netanyahu made his announcement during an early morning press conference Friday.

Traditionally, the protocol among heads of state has been to steer clear of any and all political endorsement of other candidates or incumbent heads of state, and to not in any way be involved in the elections of other nations.

But perhaps being fueled by anger after recently learning that current U.S. President, Barak Obama has at US taxpayer expense, sent a team of his political operatives into Israel ahead of Israel’s March 17, 2015 elections in an effort to unseat Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister has broken the long standing protocol and gotten involved in the US presidential race.

The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz recently reported that a U.S. taxpayer-funded non-profit by the name of OneVoice has been working inside Israel with a campaign operation called Victory 2015 in a joint effort to unseat Prime Minster Netanyahu, who they view as being“too anti-Islam” and “too hawkish”. Spokespersons for the operations say they intend to replace Netanyahu with a more “liberally progressive” candidate who will be more accommodating to the desires of Islamic nations in the region.

In a sharply damning response to Obama’s involvement in the Israeli election, staunchly pro-Israel U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, R – Texas, and Congressman Lee Zeldin, R – NY -1 sent a letter on Thursday to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry requesting that Kerry launch an investigation into Obama’s involvement and any U.S. tax dollars being used.

Netanyahu To US: Don't Second Guess Me On Hamas

Following the quick collapse of the cease-fire in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the White House not to force a truce with Palestinian militants on Israel.

Sources familiar with conversations between Netanyahu and senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, say the Israeli leader advised the Obama administration "not to ever second guess me again" on the matter. The officials also said Netanyahu said he should be "trusted" on the issue and about the unwillingness of Hamas to enter into and follow through on cease-fire talks.

The Obama administration on Friday condemned "outrageous" violations of an internationally brokered Gaza cease-fire by Palestinian militants and called the apparent abduction of an Israeli soldier a "barbaric" action.

The strong reaction came as top Israeli officials questioned the effort to forge the truce, accusing the U.S. and the United Nations of being naive in assuming the radical Hamas movement would adhere with its terms. The officials also blamed the Gulf state of Qatar for not forcing the militants to comply.

With the cease-fire in tatters fewer than two hours after it took effect with an attack that killed two Israeli troops and left a third missing, President Barack Obama demanded that those responsible release the soldier.
