By Ken Shepherd, Aug 07, 2015 NewsBusters

Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), who has all but been anointed the successor to Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (Nevada), exploited the media focus on the GOP presidential debate last night to release a press statement announcing that he would be voting against the Iran nuclear deal when it comes to the Senate floor. This decision, according to MSNBC's Luke Russert, is a "public act of being disloyal" to President Obama. Because clearly party loyalty is much more important than acting according to conscience in light of the best interests of the country. Here's the relevant transcript:

Chuck Schumer ‘Loses It" In Meeting With iJewish leaders

By  Geoff Earle, Aug 04, 2015 NY Post

WASHINGTON — Sen. Charles Schumer was ready to discuss everything from gun control to drones during a press conference in his Midtown office Monday — except his position on the Iran nuclear deal.

“This is such an important decision that I will not let pressure, politics or party influence [me],” Schumer said, holding fast to his weeks-long insistence that he’s still in the decision-making stage.

Schumer has come under mounting pressure from opponents of the Iran agreement — including many of his Jewish allies — to vote against it next month in Congress.

One source said the normally thick-skinned senator — who is also feeling the heat from Democrats to back the deal — “exploded” during a meeting last week with about 60 Jewish leaders.

Dems Still Weighing Iran Deal, But Happy With Obama Outreach

By Deb Riechmann , July 31, 2015 Yahoo

WASHINGTON (AP) — Determined to secure support for the Iran nuclear deal, President Barack Obama is making inroads with a tough constituency — his fellow Democrats in Congress.

A handful of key Democrats stepped forward to support the accord within hours of Obama's personal lobbying at the White House this past week, part of the administration's all-out campaign since the pact was announced July 14. Other Democrats have signaled they are leaning in favor and still others have remained undeclared, awaiting a vote in September.

The deal, which curbs Iran's nuclear program in exchange for relief from sanctions smothering its economy, is not a traditional fight between the White House and Republicans, who control the House and Senate. This is about Obama, who has often been at odds with congressional Democrats, trying to cajole them just weeks after a divisive debate over trade.

No, American Jews Don't Support The Iran Deal

By Jonathan D Greenberg, July 31, 2015
NY Daily News

Earlier this week, the head of J Street — the American advocacy group that consistently pressures and criticizes Israel from the left — wrote a piece for the Washington Post’s “Outrage Machine” blog in which he claimed that the real “pro-Israel” position is to be in favor of the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran. Not only is Jeremy Ben-Ami, predictably, wrong, but his organization once again finds itself trying to sell a clearly-marked box of hemlock by calling it baking soda.

To bolster his argument, Ben-Ami cited a recent poll published by the Jewish Journal of Los Angeles that found a majority of American Jews support the deal, and a plurality want Congress to approve it.

First and foremost, the poll cited by Ben-Ami is garbage. The pollsters asked respondents if they would support “an agreement . . . reached in which the United States and other countries would lift major economic sanctions against Iran, in exchange for Iran restricting its nuclear program in a way that makes it harder for it to produce nuclear weapons.”

Obama Strikes Again

By Caroline B Glick, July 30, 2015 Jerusalem Post

While Israel and much of official Washington remain focused on the deal President Barack Obama just cut with the ayatollahs that gives them $150 billion and a guaranteed nuclear arsenal within a decade, Obama has already moved on – to Syria.

Obama’s first hope was to reach a deal with his Iranian friends that would leave the Assad regime in place. But the Iranians blew him off.

They know they don’t need a deal with Obama to secure their interests. Obama will continue to help them to maintain their power base in Syria though Hezbollah and the remains of the Assad regime without a deal.

Jews Response To Holocaust Comment 'Overwhelmingly Positive'

By Ali Elkin, July 28, 2015 Bloomberg

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Tuesday doubled down on his comments likening the Iran nuclear deal to the Holocaust, saying the response from Jewish people he has spoken to has been “overwhelmingly supportive.”

“The response from Jewish people has been overwhelmingly positive, the response from Holocaust survivors, from the children of Holocaust survivors,” the former Arkansas governor said, appearing on NBC's Today Show. “I was last night in an event. I was probably one of four gentiles in the entire event—it was a Jewish event. People were overwhelmingly supportive.”

Obama Deserves Impeachment Over The Iran Deal

By Andrew C. McCarthy, July 25, 2015 National Review

The president “must certainly be punishable for giving false information to the Senate.”

One can imagine hearing such counsel from a contemporary United States senator on the receiving end of President Obama’s “full disclosure” of the nuclear deal with Iran. But the admonition actually came from James Iredell, a champion of the Constitution’s ratification, who was later appointed to the Supreme Court by President George Washington.

Iredell was addressing the obligations the new Constitution imposed on the president in the arena of international affairs. Notwithstanding the chief executive’s broad powers to “regulate all intercourse with foreign powers,” it would be the president’s “duty to impart to the Senate every material intelligence he receives.” Indeed, among the most egregious offenses a president could commit would be fraudulently inducing senators “to enter into measures injurious to their country, and which they would not have consented to had the true state of things been disclosed to them.”

Iran Hits Out At Kerry's 'Empty Threats'

By AFP, July 22, 2015 Yahoo

Tehran (AFP) - Iran hit out Friday against US Secretary of State John Kerry, accusing him of threatening military action against Tehran if it fails to respect a historic nuclear deal sealed on July 14.

"Unfortunately the US Secretary of State once again talked about the rotten rope of 'the ability of the US for using military force'," said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a statement.

Zarif decried what he called the "uselessness of such empty threats against the nation of Iran and the resistance of the nation of Iran", and said such remarks should be consigned "to the last century".

Jeb Bush: I Will NOT Repeal Iran Deal On Day One

By Patrick Howley, July 17, 2015 Daily Caller

Is Jeb even trying to win “The Sheldon Primary” anymore?

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush lobbed a not-so-subtle blow at his rival Scott Walker at a campaign stop Friday in Carson City, Nevada, mocking Walker’s claim that he would repeal President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal on day one of his presidency.

“At 12:01 on January, whatever it is, 19th [2017], I will not probably have a confirmed secretary of state; I will not have confirmed national security team in place; I will not have consulted with our allies. I will not have had the intelligence briefings to have made a decision,” Bush said in Nevada. “If you’re running for president, I think it’s important to be mature and thoughtful about this.”

Huckabee Bashes Iran Deal With LBJ Ad Reboot

By David Jackson , July 14, 2015 USA Today

Mike Huckabee is reaching back into campaign advertising history to bash President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

Huckabee’s campaign posted an updated version of the famous (or infamous) “Daisy Ad,” the 1964 television spot that President Lyndon Johnson’s campaign used to attack Republican challenger Barry Goldwater as a (nuclear) war monger.

Both the LBJ and the Huckabee ads show a little girl counting up the number of petals she plucks from a daisy.

When she reaches ten, an ominous voice begins to reverse the count back to zero — and a nuclear explosion fills the black-and-white screen.

Oh Hey, An Obama Advisor Just Blatantly Lied About The Iran Deal On CNN

By Alex Griswold , July 15, 2015 Mediaite

White House national security advisor Ben Rhodes went on CNN’s Erin Burnett Outfront last night to defend the new Iran nuclear deal, during which he claimed the Obama administration never wanted anytime, anywhere inspections in Iran.

“I understand you’re saying they can go 24/7, but there is a process, right?” host Erin Burnett asked. “You can’t just say, ‘we’re suspicious of this site, we’re walking in tomorrow, walking in an hour.’ It’s not that anytime, anywhere.”

In his response, Rhodes pushed back against the “anytime, anywhere” comment. “We never sought in this negotiation the capacity for so-called anytime, anywhere where you could basically go anywhere in the country, look at whatever you wanted to do, even if it had nothing to do with the nuclear program.”

AIPAC Vows To Fight Iran Deal ‘With The Entirety Of Our Institutional Resources’

By Joel B. Pollak, July 15, 2015 Breitbart

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most influential pro-Israel group in the U.S. and one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in Washington, told key leaders on a conference call Wednesday that it would fight the Iran deal “with the entirety of our institutional resources.” AIPAC had said the day before that it needed time to study the details of the 159-page Iran nuclear agreement.

Until now, AIPAC has avoided confrontations with the Obama administration. The group’s initial strategy when President Barack Obama took office was to cultivate personal ties with him–for example, by electing a Chicagoan to lead the group. It refrained from opposing former Sen. Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense in 2013, despite his poor record on Israel, and in 2014 it backed away from new sanctions on Iran.

Now, however, faced with an agreement that could allow the Iranian regime to become a nuclear power by cheating or merely waiting several years until the deal expires, AIPAC has decided to lobby Congress vigorously to vote against the deal and to override an expected veto by President Obama. AIPAC executive director Howard Kohr told the conference call: “This is the moment for which AIPAC was built.”

8 Unplanned Results Of The Iran Deal

By Danielle Pletka, July 14, 2015 Politico.com

The Iran agreement released Tuesday will be parsed and reparsed for months. Can the inspections mechanism really work? How will Iran reduce its enriched uranium stockpile? Is it really wise to legitimize Iran’s ballistic missile program? There are a thousand questions and each side will have different answers. But what are the other implications of what Barack Obama insists is a “historic” deal?

1. Doubling down on the Muslim sectarian divide

Right or wrong, the perception of many in the Middle East is that the region is in the midst of a battle between the Sunni neo-Ottoman Empire and the Shiite neo-Persian Empire. Sounds simplistic, and in many ways it is, but as Iran works to buttress an Alawite ally in Syria, the Zaydi Shiite Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon, it only reinforces the notion that the Islamic Republic is looking to upend the status quo and impose Shiite hegemony wherever possible. We should expect the region’s Sunni powers to do all that they can to push back.

Key Democrats Skeptical Of Iran Deal

By Manu Raju and Burgess Everett, July 15, 2015 Politico

CNN Politics's Twitter account on Friday pointed the finger at congressional Republicans over the now-former director of the Office of Personnel Management's responsibility for the massive hacking there that compromised the personal data of over 22 million people. A post hyped that "Republicans acknowledge to [correspondent] @evanperez they didn't properly vet [Katherine] Archuleta's qualifications."

In their CNN.com article on Director Archuleta's resignation, Perez and journalist Wesley Bruer actually spotlighted the responsibility of the Obama administration for nominating her and how "aides to Republican lawmakers who voted for her confirmation now acknowledge they didn't pay enough attention to the importance of technology in the agency Archuleta was taking over:"

Graham: Iran Deal 'Akin To Declaring War' On Israel

By Josh Rogin, July 14, 2015 Bloomberg View

The newly announced deal between Iran and six world powers is “akin to declaring war on Israel and the Sunni Arabs,” and will be a huge problem for Hillary Clinton, according to GOP presidential candidate and Senator Lindsey Graham, who promised to not uphold the deal if he is elected next year.

“My initial impression is that this deal is far worse than I ever dreamed it could be and will be a nightmare for the region, our national security and eventually the world at large,” Graham told me in an interview early Tuesday morning, just after Iran, China, France, Russia, Britain, the U.S. and Germany confirmed they had reached terms for a historic deal to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Graham reacted harshly to many of the details about the deal that were emerging early Tuesday, including the news that the conventional arms embargo on Iran will be largely lifted and replaced by a limitation of Iranian arms imports and exports for five years. Reports also stated early Tuesday that limitations on Iran’s ballistic missile program will begin to ease after eight years.

Obama Warns Congress Not To Stand In Way Of Iran Deal

By Julie Pace, July 14, 2015 AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama heralded a historic nuclear agreement with Iran Tuesday as an opportunity for the longtime foes to move in a "new direction," while sharply warning Congress that it would be irresponsible to block the accord.

"No deal means a greater chance of more war in the Middle East," Obama said in early morning remarks from the White House.

Obama, accompanied by Vice President Joe Biden, spoke shortly after negotiators in Vienna announced the landmark deal aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear program for more than a decade in exchange for billions of dollars in international sanctions relief. The president said the agreement, hammered out through nearly two years of negotiations, would cut off all of Iran's pathways to a bomb and give the international community unprecedented access to the country's nuclear facilities.

Iran Leader Rules Out Key Aspects Of Any Nuke Deal

By Associated Press, May 20, 2015, CBS News

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's supreme leader vowed Wednesday he will not allow international inspection of Iran's military sites or access to Iranian scientists under any nuclear agreement with world powers.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told military commanders Wednesday that Iran will resist "coercion and excessive demands" from America and other world powers.

Negotiators from Iran and a six nation group -- the U.S., Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -- have launched a new round of talks in Vienna focused on reaching a final deal that curbs Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting economic sanctions. The two sides reached a framework agreement in March and hope to strike a final deal by June 30.

A fact sheet on the framework accord issued by the U.S. State Department said Iran would be required to grant the U.N. nuclear agency access to any "suspicious sites."

Israeli Cabinet Unanimously Opposed To Iran Framework Nuclear Deal

Credit: Mark Israel Salem
Source: Haaretz.com
By Reuters, Apr. 4, 2015, JPost.com

Israel's security cabinet is united in its opposition to the framework deal reached between world powers and Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement issued following a special meeting said on Friday.

Netanyahu, who earlier spoke by phone with US President Barack Obama, saying that he was "vehemently opposed" to the agreement, was shortly expected to deliver a statement.

Obama called Netanyahu within hours of the deal being struck, saying it represented significant progress toward a lasting solution that cuts off Iran's path to a nuclear weapon.

But Netanyahu said in a statement after the conversation that a deal based on the framework announced in Lausanne, Switzerland "would threaten the survival of Israel."

"This deal would legitimize Iran's nuclear program, bolster Iran's economy and increase Iran's aggression and terror throughout the Middle East and beyond," Netanyahu said.

"It would increase the risks of nuclear proliferation in the region and the risks of a horrific war."
