AIPAC Vows To Fight Iran Deal ‘With The Entirety Of Our Institutional Resources’

By Joel B. Pollak, July 15, 2015 Breitbart

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most influential pro-Israel group in the U.S. and one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in Washington, told key leaders on a conference call Wednesday that it would fight the Iran deal “with the entirety of our institutional resources.” AIPAC had said the day before that it needed time to study the details of the 159-page Iran nuclear agreement.

Until now, AIPAC has avoided confrontations with the Obama administration. The group’s initial strategy when President Barack Obama took office was to cultivate personal ties with him–for example, by electing a Chicagoan to lead the group. It refrained from opposing former Sen. Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense in 2013, despite his poor record on Israel, and in 2014 it backed away from new sanctions on Iran.

Now, however, faced with an agreement that could allow the Iranian regime to become a nuclear power by cheating or merely waiting several years until the deal expires, AIPAC has decided to lobby Congress vigorously to vote against the deal and to override an expected veto by President Obama. AIPAC executive director Howard Kohr told the conference call: “This is the moment for which AIPAC was built.”

Susan Rice Tells Israel Lobbyists Their Demands Are ‘Unachievable’

By John Hudson, Mar. 2, 2015

I was a tough message before a tough crowd.

On Monday night, White House National Security Adviser Susan Rice made the case for a diplomatic solution to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon — an argument that rankled many of the 16,000 activists who flooded Washington for the annual confab of the most powerful pro-Israel lobbying organization in the country.

Rice’s remarks, at the policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, were a direct rebuttal to a series of bills supported by AIPAC over the last year that the White House has threatened to veto for fear the legislation would derail the delicate nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers, the so-called P5+1. One such proposal demanded that any deal prohibit Iran from enriching any uranium on its soil — a high bar, backed by Israel, which Rice called “neither realistic nor achievable.”

Susan Rice Tells Israel They’ll Only Be Secure Once Palestinians Have Their Own State

“The only path to ensure Israel’s long-term security is to bring about a viable, sovereign, Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the democratic state of Israel.”

At AIPAC, Susan Rice Scolds Israel for ‘Eroding Trust’ and ‘Legitimacy’

Mar. 2, 2015

“Like past administrations, we are concerned by unilateral actions that erode trust or assault Israel’s legitimacy. Like every administration, Republican and Democratic, since the Six Day War, we oppose Israeli settlement activity and we oppose Palestinian steps that throw up further obstacles to peace, including actions against Israel at the International Criminal Court.”
