FBI Investigation Of Hillary’s Emails Is ‘Criminal Probe’

The FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s unsecured email account is not just a fact-finding venture — it’s a criminal probe, sources told The Post on Wednesday.

The feds are investigating to what extent Clinton relied on her home server and other private devices to send and store classified documents, according to a federal source with knowledge of the inquiry.

“It’s definitely a criminal probe,” said the source. “I’m not sure why they’re not calling it a criminal probe.

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence,” said President Calvin Coolidge, and Judicial Watch continues to prove it, much to Hillary Clinton’s consternation.

Judicial Watch now has information about an email directly tying Clinton, for the first time, to the now-debunked Benghazi talking points used by then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to claim the attack was the result of a “spontaneous protest” gone awry.

Showing contempt for transparency, the Obama State Department is refusing to divulge the contents of the email.

Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information (FOIA) lawsuit in July 2014 seeking records from Clinton and her top State Department staff about the Benghazi talking points scandal, specifically, copies of any updates and/or talking points given to Ambassador Rice by the White House or any federal agency concerning, regarding, or related to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya; and any and all records or communications concerning, regarding, or relating to talking points or updates on the Benghazi attack given to Ambassador Rice by the White House or any federal agency.

Homeland Security Releases Emails Showing Political Influence for Sony, Time Warner Projects

The newly released documents buttress a report issued late last month detailing how an immigration director was swayed with respect to hundreds of millions of dollars in film and TV investments under the EB-5 visa program.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general has released hundreds of pages of emails plus other documents in support of its investigation of improper influence on the EB-5 immigration program. Many of the documents discuss hundreds of millions of dollars in financing for film and television productions from Sony Pictures and Time Warner with prominent politicians including former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendall and the office of former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa interjecting in an effort to get approvals.

ince inception in 1990, the EB-5 visa program allows foreign nationals to become conditional permanent residents upon an investment of at least $500,000 for a qualifying project that creates American jobs.

RENDELL (D-PA): “Let me respond to what Lawrence said. The State Department said she did comply with the 2009 regulation by preserving everything she sent and by sending it over when she was asked way before the New York Times story broke. She sent them all out before October before there was any — “

WAGNER: “All the e-mails she had chosen from the 60,000.”

RENDELL: “Right. The reason she probably doesn’t want to release all the e-mails is because there are probably e-mails on there from her to Bill Clinton saying, ‘Boy, Governor Jones is a real slacker, what a dumbbell he is.’”

WAGNER: “That would be awesome.”

RENDELL: “Stuff you wouldn’t want in public domain. In retrospect —“

WAGNER: “Yeah, she said there were yoga workouts, details on Chelsea’s wedding.”

RENDELL: “In retrospect should she have used her one government e-mail? Sure she did. But look, this country infrastructure is falling apart. We had 47 Senators who for the first time in the history of this country sent a letter to a foreign country undermining the president and we’re talking about e-mails? There’s something wrong with the political process.”

WAGNER: “Well, we’re talking about the 2016 race. Clinton began a press conference by talking exactly to those points, that sort of intimating there are much more important things to be talking about, at the same time this is the official start of the 2016 race.”

RENDELL: “Alex, each year our voting participation goes down.”

WAGNER: “And you wonder why.”

RENDELL: “It’s right here. It’s the chattering class, which is all of us, myself included, we talk about stuff like this. When’s the last time we had a real serious discussion about how to fund the infrastructure needs of this country? Our infrastructure is falling apart. And I haven’t seen it on MSNBC. I haven’t seen it on FOX.”

Fox News’s Catherine Herridge reports (via Fox’s Greta Van Susteren) that, in an internal 2011 State Department cable, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton directed employees not to use personal email accounts for official business due to security concerns. Nevertheless, throughout her tenure as Secretary, Mrs. Clinton used personal email accounts to conduct her State Department business – setting up her own personal servers in her New York home precisely to avoid the State Department system under which government electronic communications were maintained and disclosed pursuant to federal law. 

Ms. Herridge elaborates: Sent to Diplomatic and Consular Staff in June 2011, the unclassified cable, with Clinton’s electronic signature, makes clear to “avoid conducting official Department from your personal e-mail accounts” and employees should not “auto-forward Department email to personal email accounts which is prohibited by Department policy.”

Hillary Email ‘Scandal’? Not So Fast

It looks bad for Hillary Clinton—again. This New York Times story alleging that she might have violated federal rules by using a personal email account instead of an official government one for her communications seems to raise all the old questions about Clintonian corner-cutting and is sure to make Democrats flail their arms and cry, “Oh God, this again?”

But let’s hold on a second. A close reading of the Times piece reveals one potential big hole in the case. I’m not saying the Times is wrong here. It’s still a foggy situation. I am, however, saying this: You have to know how to read these things, and if you do know how to read them, there’s a big question here that could—potentially—exonerate Clinton to some or maybe even a considerable extent.

The article says that there were “new” regulations that Clinton was supposed to abide by. It notes that one past secretary of state, Colin Powell, who served from 2001 to 2005, sometimes used his personal email account “before the new regulations went into effect.”

Suppose each time you ran low on an item in your kitchen—olive oil, bananas, napkins—your instinctive response was to drop everything and race to the store. How much time would you lose? How much money would you squander on gas? What would happen to your productivity?

We all recognize the inefficiency of this approach. And yet surprisingly, we often work in ways that are equally wasteful.

The reason we keep a shopping list and try to keep supermarket trips to a minimum is that it’s easy to see the cost of driving to the store every time we crave a bag of potato chips. What is less obvious to us, however, is the cognitive price we pay each time we drop everything and switch activities to satisfy a mental craving.

Shifting our attention from one task to another, as we do when we’re monitoring email while trying to read a report or craft a presentation, disrupts our concentration and saps our focus. Each time we return to our initial task, we use up valuable cognitive resources reorienting ourselves. And all those transitional costs add up. Research shows that when we are deeply engrossed in an activity, even minor distractions can have a profound effect. According to a University of California-Irvine study, regaining our initial momentum following an interruption can take, on average, upwards of 20 minutes.

Multitasking, as many studies have shown, is a myth. A more accurate account of what happens when we tell ourselves we’re multitasking is that we’re rapidly switching between activities, degrading our clarity and depleting our mental energy. And the consequences can be surprisingly serious . An experiment conducted at the University of London found that we lose as many as 10 IQ points when we allow our work to be interrupted by seemingly benign distractions like emails and text messages.

The trouble, of course, is that multitasking is enjoyable. It’s fun to indulge your curiosity. Who knows what that next email, tweet or text message holds in store? Finding out provides immediate gratification. In contrast, resisting distraction and staying on-task requires discipline and mental effort.

And yet each time we shift our focus, it’s as if we’re taking a trip to the store. Creativity expert Todd Henry calls it a “task-shifting penalty.” We pay a mental tax that diminishes our ability to produce high-level work.

So what are we to do?
