Christiane Amanpour: U.S. Will Beat ISIS Before Brian Williams Returns to NBC

By Jeffrey Meyer, Jun. 2, 2015, Newsbusters

During an appearance on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Monday, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour joked “we defeat ISIS” when asked: “What happens first: we defeat ISIS or Brian Williams anchoring again?”

In response to a question of Wilmore, the longtime CNN reporter blasted the Obama administrations’s ISIS strategy and argued that “I don’t think there is enough committed to the fight against ISIS. ISIS has to be beaten. ISIS can be beaten. We can beat them without putting American boots on the ground.”

Amanpour went one step further and explained how “as one counter-terrorism official said today, America is doing it half-assed and America can’t win half assed.” Given how poorly the U.S. strategy against ISIS is going, one shouldn't expect Brian Williams to return to the anchor's desk anytime in the near future.

MSNBC's Dyson Compares Rand Paul To Segregationist George Wallace

By Jeffrey Meyer, May 31, 2015, Newsbusters

On Sunday’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Michael Eric Dyson, regular fill-in host on MSNBC’s The Ed Show, took a swipe at Republican Presidential candidate Senator Rand Paul when he accused him of sounding like “George Wallace in one beat and like Noam Chomsky on the other.”

Dyson’s comments came in response to Stephanopoulos wondering if “Hillary Clinton's baggage is going to start to weigh her down, how concerned are Democrats, progressives getting about that?” The MSNBC host eagerly spun and argued that “I don't think too terribly concerned. Look, she's been vetted already. All the stuff and guff she’s taken over the years, she’s got a lot of practice in trying to thrust.”

Van Jones Asks Rich Lowry: 'Can I Kiss You Here Against Your Will?'

Jeffrey Meyer, Dec. 7, 2014, Newsbusters

On Sunday morning, ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos discussed Rolling Stone's retracted article surrounding an alleged sexual assault and gang rape at the University of Virginia. While the panelists all agreed that Rolling Stone should take a hit for publishing a false story, the discussion got heated over statistics regarding sexual assaults on college campuses.

NAACP President: ‘Burn This Bi*** Down’ Not ‘A Call For Violence’

Jeffrey Meyer, Nov. 26, 2014, Newsbusters

On Tuesday night, Cornell Brooks, president of the NAACP, appeared on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront to discuss the shooting death of Michael Brown and dismissed calls for violence by a member of Michael Brown’s immediate family as inciting violence. Burnett played video of Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, telling a crowd of protestors to “burn this bi*** down” after the grand jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson and asked Brooks if “that served as a call for violence?” Rather than condemn Brown’s stepfather’s highly charged rhetoric, the president of the NAACP proclaimed “I don't think that was a call for violence or it caused violence.”

Chuck Todd Interviews Dem Sen Despite Wife’s Former Support

By Jeffrey Meyer, Oct. 5, 2014, Newsbusters.org

Talk about a conflict of interest. Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd sat down with former Senator Jim Webb (D-V.A.) for an interview Sunday morning and set up the discussion by declaring how his wife worked on the Democrat’s 2006 Senate campaign.

The NBC News Political Director introduced the Virginia Democrat by highlighting how Webb is “a successful author and screenwriter and has written eight books over the years. And I do want to mention that my wife helped Jim Webb in his 2006 Senate campaign.”

The New York Times’ motto is “all the news that’s fit to print” but in their eyes it seems as though the IRS scandal isn’t worth printing all that much.

Research conducted by the Media Research Center found that in the past 6 months (183 days) the New York Times has published only 13 news items on the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party groups. The study focused on the dates of December 25, 2013 until June 26, 2014 and did not include editorial or opinion pieces published in the Times.

In fact, our research found that not a single story on the IRS made it onto the front page of the New York Times and all stories were saved for the National pages deep inside the front section, so an IRS story never came before page A12. Our results were obtained using a Nexis search of key words including “IRS” and “Lois Lerner” and “Tea Party” but did not include stories referencing the IRS scandal as part of larger political stories.

Since December 25, 2013 the front section of the New York Times has run approximately 5,694 stories in its front section, excluding obituaries and opinion/editorial pieces. Of these approximately 5,694 news stories, less than one quarter of one percent of the paper’s front section news stories -centered around the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups.

For example, on Wednesday, June 25, the New York Times buried a story on the United States Archivist accusing the IRS of not following the law in the wake of Lois Lerner's hard drive crash on page A15 and ignored the IRS’ admission of wrongdoing for leaking the tax information of the National Organization for Marriage and subsequently paid the group $50,000 in damages.

Documents obtained by the Washington Times revealed that the Bush Administration warned the Obama Administration about problems within the Veterans Administration as early as 2008, yet both the ABC and NBC evening news broadcasts ignored the story on Monday, May 19.

Of the big three networks, only the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley covered the new revelations in the VA scandal. CBS News host Scott Pelley noted that “The Bush White House was so concerned about this back in 2008 that it warned the incoming Obama Administration.”

Fox News Sunday was the only Sunday show that discussed the latest revelations in the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups. As a result, viewers were treated to host Chris Wallace grilling Congressman Sander Levin (D-MI) over why the IRS targeted 100 percent of conservative groups as opposed to only 30 percent of liberal groups.

Appearing on Sunday April 13, Wallace challenged Levin: “30 percent of organizations with progress or progressive in their names were examined as possible political groups. And, therefore, not included -- would not have been considered for tax exempt status. But 100 percent of groups with Tea Party, Patriot or 9/12 in their names were examined. Congressman Levin, 248 conservative groups were examined, but only 29 liberal groups. How do you explain that disparity?” [See video below.]

CBS Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer seems to have fallen for the liberal lie that women get paid 77 percent of what their male counterparts earn as was evident during an interview with Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

Blackburn appeared with Schieffer on Sunday April 13 and was accused of being against equal pay: “Are Republicans against equal pay for women and is that going to be a good political issue in these coming midterm elections?” [See video below.]

“New York Times” columnist Thomas Friedman took a nasty swipe at conservatives over the subject of climate change on Sunday April 6. Friedman appeared alongside Heidi Cullen of Climate Central on Sunday’s CBS This Morning and proceeded to mock conservatives who question human-caused climate change.

Speaking to host Bob Schieffer, Friedman claimed that 97 percent of scientists believe in climate change and “conservatives are saying I’m going go to with the 3%. That’s not conservative, that’s Trotskyite radicalism.” [See video below.]

ABC’s Jonathan Karl did his best to get Bill Kristol to admit ObamaCare is working on ABC’s “This Week” but the “Weekly Standard” editor refused to give into the fill-in host’s demands. Karl attempted to persuade Kristol to “Give the president a little credit here right? 7.1 million sign-ups after that disastrous start. They hit their number; they went past their number.”

Appearing on Sunday April 6, Kristol shot down Karl’s assertion and argued, “It’s like saying you’ve got to give the Soviet Union a lot of credit. 200 million people bought bread in their grocery stores. If it’s the only place you can buy health insurance, they’re going to get people to buy health insurance there.” [See video below.]

ABC News Political Analyst and former Bush/Cheney advisor Matthew Dowd attempted to downplay the impact ObamaCare will have in the 2013-midterm elections. Appearing on This Week w/ George Stephanopoulos on March 30, Dowd asserted, “2014 is going to be about the direction of the country, the economy, and how people feel in their lives. It's not going to be about ObamaCare.”
Despite the bizarre prediction from the ABC analyst, conservative editor of "The Weekly Standard" Bill Kristol slapped down Dowd’s ridiculous claim and shot back that “I’m happy to have a referendum on ObamaCare… and will be good for Republicans.” See video below.

Comedian Bill Maher is no stranger to making outrageous and offensive comments, usually directed at conservatives. His weekly HBO program “Real Time with Bill Maher” is an opportunity for the devout atheist and liberal to spew his anti-conservative hate, yet when a major television network profiles his comedy routine, his controversial style is ignored.
NBC’s Harry Smith sat down with Maher for an interview, which aired during the March 16th “Meet the Press” and the NBC reporter treated the comedian to a friendly puff interview without ever bringing up his tasteless comedy routine. Moderator David Gregory hyped the interview and observed how Maher has “been thinking about how dysfunctional politics has become in the country and he’s been dishing on both parties as he takes his message to red state America.

The interview began with Smith commenting how Maher is “reliably funny and reliably liberal” and allowed Maher to openly argue that the Republican Party “drove the short bus to crazy town at a certain point.” Not once did  Smith ask Maher about his past comments, such as when he called President Reagan a “anti-government, union-busting, race-baiting, anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-intellectual, who cut rich people's taxes in half, had an incurable case of the military-industrial complex, and said Medicare was socialism that would destroy our freedom.
