Harry Reid Was Donald Trump Before Trump Was Uncool

By Daniel Horowitz, July 7, 2015, Conservative Review

Once upon a time, common sense reigned supreme, even in our political system.  Sure, politicians would argue over subsidies and entitlements and other fiscal issues. But before our body politic was hijacked by a cartel of special interests who worship the pagan gods of political correctness and selfish parochial desires, both progressives and conservatives had a sense of justice and fairness as it relates to illegal immigration.

On January 25, 1993, two CIA agents were shot and killed outside of the Langley headquarters by a Pakistani illegal alien. A month later, a group of Islamic terrorists, that included several illegal aliens, executed the first bombing attack on the World Trade Center.  Even though these events were not prototypical of the predominant illegal immigration problems we experienced from the southern border, none other than Harry Reid wasted no time in demanding comprehensive enforcement against all illegal immigration.

Reid Wants Warren In Senate Leadership

Manu Raju and John Bresnahan, Nov. 12, 2014, Politico

Senate Democrats have enlisted progressive firebrand Elizabeth Warren to be a member of their leadership team, giving a major platform to a liberal icon just a week after Democrats took a beating at the polls and lost control of the Senate.

Harry Reid, the incoming Senate minority leader, had engaged in private talks with the Massachusetts freshman to create a special leadership post for the former Harvard professor, and the leadership elections Thursday solidified the new Democratic team.

The title will be strategic policy adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee — a specially created position that puts Warren into a much more prominent position in the Senate hierarchy.

President, VP May Differ On Immigration Strategy: 'Obama Angrily Cut Biden Off'

Daniel Halper, Nov. 9, 2014, Weekly Standard

President Obama and Vice President Biden might not see eye-to-eye on immigration strategy. A hint of an apparent disagreement was on display during Obama's lunch with congressional leaders on Friday at the White House.

"The meeting was tense at times, according to a senior House Republican aide. The aide was not authorized to describe the back-and-forth publicly by name and spoke only on condition of anonymity," the Associated Press reports.

"Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, about to lose his grip on the upper chamber, barely said a word. The aide said at one point as House Speaker John Boehner was making an argument on immigration, Obama responded that his patience was running out and Vice President Joe Biden interrupted to ask how long Republicans needed. Obama angrily cut Biden off, the aide said."

Michelle Malkin: Asian-Bashing Dems And The Doormat Minorities Who Enable Them

By Michelle Malkin, Aug. 26, 2014, Newsbusters.org

Harry Reid is a bigoted Beltway corruptocrat with an interminable case of diarrhea of the mouth. The feeble-minded coot stuck his foot in that mess of a mouth again last week at the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce. But as mortifying as the Senate Majority Leader is, there's an even worse spectacle: Asian-American liberals who keep giving top Democrats and their partisan operatives blanket passes.

Reid clumsily offered his assessment of the success and intelligence of business leaders of Asian descent at the gathering. "I don't think you're smarter than anybody else, but you've convinced a lot of us you are," he babbled. You put those uppity Asians in their places, Hater Harry!

During a question-and-answer session, Reid followed up his jibe with a crude "joke" about Chinese surnames that would make Archie Bunker cringe: "One problem that I've had today is keeping my Wongs straight."

Good thing the pale-faced codger didn't let a "ching-chong" slip out, too. You know it was ringing around between his ears. Mocking Asian monikers is a hanging offense if you're a Republican pol or conservative talk-show host. But it's just a meaningless gaffe by "diversity's" best friend when you're Democratic Senate Majority Leader.

That's why Reid's hosts obliged with subdued tittering. National news anchors selectively averted their gazes. The Asian American Journalists Association, so quick to issue sanctimonious guidelines for avoiding ethnic stereotypes, maintained radio silence. And the usual left-wing speech police who read racism into every word uttered by conservatives from "angry" to "Chicago" to "Constitution" to "Obamacare" saw and said nothing.

One bizarre group, Asian Pacific American Advocates, was only offended because they resent public attention paid to successful Asian Americans. They vented that Reid "falsely assumes that our communities continue to perpetuate the model minority stereotype, when we have been actively working to highlight the vast socioeconomic disparities within our communities." These confused people have spent way too much time in social justice 101 classes.

Back in Washington, D.C., the usually garrulous Democratic chairwoman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Rep. Judy Chu, responded by ... not responding at all. CAPAC Executive Director Krystal Ka'ai did not return my email seeking reaction to the race-mocking Senate Majority Leader, who has now apologized for his "extremely poor taste."

Chu and her ethnic grievance caucus — which pledges to "denounce racial and religious discrimination affecting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders" — did find time over the past year to:

Watch Harry Reid Say Silly Things For Five Glorious Minutes

By Noah Rothman, Aug. 26, 2014, Hotair.com

The folks over at Roll Call have compiled a pretty perfect video of Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) greatest hits. And by “greatest hits,” I mean examples of his tenuous grasp on reality and increasingly frequent senior moments.

At just over five minutes, the video is slightly longer than the attention span of the average internet user. Every second is, however, worth it.

The video’s only shortfall is that these greatest hits were comprised entirely of statements Reid made in the Capitol. The Senate Majority Leader has made his share of … impolitic statements, we’ll say, outside of those marbled halls, too.

By Kyle Drennen, May 9, 2014, Newsbusters.org

During an interview with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday's MSNBC Daily Rundown, NBC political director Chuck Todd challenged Reid's suggestion that Republicans were solely to blame for legislation not getting through Congress: "You don't believe Democrats play any role in this? It feels like a tit-for-tat game....you don't belief there's any tit-for-tat going on here?" [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Reid launched into a rant against supposedly unfair media coverage: "One of the problems that the press has in modern-day journalism is everything you do is a tit for tat. You won't call things the way they actually exist. What has happened here is the Republicans have stopped everything from happening....So, you can give me the tit for tat all you want, but the fact is we want to legislate. We want to legislate, we want to take votes."

House Majority Leader Harry Reid
By Dana Milbank, May 4, 2014, Tdn.com

WASHINGTON -- The time has come to stop the denial and to admit that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a Koch problem.

More than 100 times on the Senate floor in the past few months, Reid has invoked Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who have pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into conservative causes and campaigns.

After a brief respite during the Easter recess (during which time Reid turned his ire to the “domestic terrorists” who supported Cliven Bundy in Reid’s home state of Nevada) the senator has relapsed into a full-blown Koch habit.

Opening a minimum wage debate Wednesday, he said that if “Americans are searching for an answer” to why Republicans “would refuse to raise the minimum wage, they should look no further than Republicans’ billionaire benefactors -- I repeat, billionaire benefactors -- the Koch brothers.”

After Republicans blocked a minimum wage increase with a filibuster, Reid went to the Senate TV gallery and complained that “Republicans are defending ... the Koch brothers, while they come to the floor and oppose raising the minimum wage.”

Asked a question about a proposed constitutional amendment that would limit campaign contributions. Reid answered with a non sequitur: “The Koch brothers, of course, have -- they scored this vote,” he said. “In effect what they did is say, ‘If you vote yes, we’re not going to be with you anymore.’”

I caught up with Reid in the hall outside and asked whether he was concerned that all these Koch mentions were turning him into a Koch addict. “I tried that line; nobody picked it up,” he said. “I said they were Koch addicts.”

He did, on March 4: “Senate Republicans are addicted to Koch.”

Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid
By ESPN, May 1, 2014

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says it's time for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to follow NBA counterpart Adam Silver's lead and rid his "league of bigotry and racism" by forcing the Washington Redskins to change their nickname.

Reid, who has been a vocal opponent of the nickname, congratulated the NBA on Wednesday for banning Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life. Sterling was caught in an audio recording making racist comments about blacks.

On Tuesday, Silver banned the 80-year-old Sterling for life, fined him $2.5 million (the maximum allowed by the NBA's constitution) and pressed other team owners to support his desire to make Sterling sell the Clippers. If three-fourths of the other 29 owners agree to Silver's recommendation, Sterling will be forced to sell the team he has owned since 1981. Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive said Wednesday on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" that he expects the vote to be unanimous (29-0) to remove Sterling.

"Commissioner Silver and the NBA leadership have set the standard for how professional sports organization should act in the face of racism," Reid said, according to ABC News. "How long will the NFL continue to do nothing, zero, as one of its teams bears the name that inflicts so much pain for Native Americans."

Reid called on Goodell to "follow the NBA's example" and "remove this hateful term from your league's vocabulary."

In March, Reid told The Washington Post that he thinks the Redskins will change the name within three years. The Nevada Democrat, who said his state has 22 tribes, accused Redskins owner Daniel Snyder of hiding behind tradition in retaining his team's name.

"It is untoward of Daniel Snyder to try to hide behind tradition," Reid said. "Tradition? That's what he says in refusing to change the name of the team. Tradition? What tradition? A tradition of racism is all that name leaves in its wake. Mr. Snyder knows that in sports the only tradition that matters is winning, so I urge Daniel Snyder to do what's morally right and remove this degrading term from the league by changing his team's name."

AP PhotoSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid called on the NFL to follow the NBA's lead to end racism and bigotry in its league by changing the Redskins' nickname.

Snyder has insisted he will not change the team's name, calling it a "badge of honor.''

By Paige Lavender, Apr. 24, 2014, Huffintonpost.com

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called on Republicans to condemn rancher Cliven Bundy, who made a series ofracist remarks in an interview with the New York Times this week.

In a piece published Wednesday, the Times reports Bundy wondered aloud about "the Negro," asking if black people were "better off as slaves."

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” Bundy said at what he called a daily news conference. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

In a statement Thursday, Reid called on Republicans, several of which had publiclyexpressed their support for Bundy in his dispute with the Bureau of Land Managementover grazing fees, to disown the "hateful racist":

"I used to live in North Las Vegas and it is home to some of the hardest-working people I have ever met - men and women who embody the American dream by working hard every day to build a better life for themselves and their families. By contrast, Cliven Bundy has spent decades profiting off government land while refusing to pay the same fair use fees as his fellow ranchers. Today, Bundy revealed himself to be a hateful racist. But by denigrating people who work hard and play by the rules while he mooches off public land he also revealed himself to be a hypocrite."

The Republican National Committee has released a brutal memo on Senate majority leader Harry Reid, savaging him for repeatedly lying. The memo, under the name of press secretary Kirsten Kukowski, is titled "Nothing’s Too Unethical for Harry Reid."

"Harry Reid is having a bad month," the memo begins. "He was caught funneling campaign money to his relatives. His Senate Majority PAC was caught lying to voters. And he was caught hypocritically accepting money tied to people he calls 'un-American.' As he desperately clings to power, is there anything Harry Reid won’t do to promote his own self interests?"

Sen. Rand Paul
By Brendan Bordelon, Apr. 18, 2014, Daily Caller

Republican Senator Rand Paul called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to “calm the rhetoric” on Cliven Bundy, arguing the Nevada senator’s “domestic terrorist” comment was “liable to stir up” the situation and lead to violence.

The Kentucky senator spoke Thursday night with Fox News’ Eric Bolling, who was filling in for Sean Hannity. “Is there any need to call Americans domestic terrorists?” Bolling asked.

“No, I think what we should all be calling for is for calmer heads to prevail,” Paul said. “I don’t want to see violence on either side.”

“There is a legitimate constitutional question here about whether the state should be in charge of endangered species or whether the federal government should be,” Paul admitted. “But I don’t think calling people names is going to calm this down.”

“I think it’s liable to stir it up,” he continued. “So I think all parties — including Senator Reid — should calm the rhetoric a little bit. Let’s try to have a peaceful resolution to this.”

Despite his call for calm, Paul left little doubt about where he falls on the debate. “The endangered species act has been abused across America,” he asserted, calling it “government gone amuck with this Endangered Species Act.”

Cliven Bundy
Source:  www.danaloeschradio.com
By Dana Loesch, Apr. 11, 2014, Danaloeschradio.com

By now you’re familiar with the standoff between the federal government, i.e. the Bureau of Land Management, and 67 year-old rancher Cliven Bundy. (If not, check the backstory and my radio interview with him here.) The BLM asserts their power through the expressed desire to protect the endangered desert tortoise, a tortoise so “endangered” that their population can no longer be contained by the refuge constructed for them so the government is closing it and euthanizing over a thousand tortoises. The tortoises, the excuse that BLM has given for violating claims to easements and running all but one lone rancher out of southern Nevada, is doing fine. In fact, the tortoise has lived in harmony with cattle in the Gold Butte, Clark County Nevada for over a hundred years, or as long as Cliven Bundy’s family has lived on the land as ranchers. In fact, the real threat to it is urbanization, not cattle.

A tortoise isn’t the reason why BLM is harassing a 67 year-old rancher. They want his land. The tortoise wasn’t of concern when Harry Reid worked BLM to literally change the boundaries of the tortoise’s habitat to accommodate the development of his top donor, Harvey Whittemore. Whittemore was convicted of illegal campaign contributions to Senator Reid. Reid’s former senior adviser is now the head of BLM. Reid is accused of using the new BLM chief as a puppet to control Nevada land (already over 84% of which is owned by the federal government) and pay back special interests. BLM has proven that they’ve a situational concern for the desert tortoise as they’ve had no problem waiving their rules concerning wind or solar power development. Clearly these developments have vastly affected a tortoise habitat more than a century-old, quasi-homesteading grazing area. If only Clive Bundy were a big Reid donor.

BLM has also tried to argue that the rules have changed, long after Bundy claims he secured rights and paid his dues to Clark County, Nevada. BLM says they supersede whatever agreement Bundy had prior; they demanded that he reduce his living, his thousand-some-odd head of cattle down to a tiny herd of 150. It’s easy for the government to grant itself powers of overreach, but it doesn’t make it right. Many bad things are done in the name of unjust laws. Just look at Obamacare. This heavy-handed tactic has run the other ranchers from the area and now Bundy is the last one. He’s the last one because he stood up to the federal government.

So why does BLM want to run Bundy off this land and is Reid connected?

By John Hinderaker, Apr. 7, 2014, Powerlineblog.com

Chuck Schumer has joined Harry Reid in obsessive attacks on Charles and David Koch and their company, Koch Industries. Yesterday Schumer told Politico that the Democrats’ attacks on the Koch brothers are paying off politically, and they intend to continue them. He described the brothers’ “real agenda”:

They’re spending $40, $50 million in ads that are not focused on their real agenda, which is just eliminating all regulation on corporations, cutting taxes to virtually nothing.

Here is the funny thing: when KochPAC, Koch Industries’ political action committee, donated money to Schumer’s 2010 Senatorial campaign, Schumer thought the Kochs were wonderful. Here is the letter of appreciation he wrote, dated October 28,2009.

By Guy Benson, Apr. 1, 2014, HotAir.com
In his effort to discredit Boonstra, (Harry) Reid relied on a Washington Post “fact check,” which effectively ruled her story half true.  In fact, every claim Boonstra made in the ad has been confirmed, as explained by the Detroit News’ Dan Calabrese (see update below):
Boonstra is on five different medications to help deal with her leukemia. The Blue Cross PR spokesman claimed that they are all covered. But when Boonstra went to fill her prescription for Loratadine — a prescription-level equivalent of Claritin that she uses to control congestion brought on by chemotherapy — she was told that Loratadine is not covered. She has not yet attempted to restock any of her other meds but she is already having to come with strategies to deal with that problem. The $5,100 cap on Boonstra’s out-of-pocket spending is for in-network care only. If she has to go out of network, she could spend an additional $10,200…When Boonstra was first diagnosed, she had to go through a painstaking process to get approval for her chemotherapy drugs to be covered. When she finally found insurance she liked, she had no problem with the chemo drugs. She now says that process is starting all over again. Boonstra has already had to cut back on her bone marrow biopsies, which she was having on a regular schedule she had worked out with her doctor, because she doesn’t have clarification on whether these will be covered. I could go on, but the bottom line is this: Julie Boonstra told the truth, and arrogant media “fact checkers” had a lot of nerve claiming she hadn’t when they never even talked to her.
Nevertheless, Reid’s inaccurate nasty gram touched off a torrent of bile from Obamacare supporters,  including this delightful care package Boonstra received in the mail:
