Conservative Republicans Put GOP Leadership On Notice

By Joel Gehrke, Jun. 17, 2015, National Review

When a group of House conservatives voted last week to kill a trade bill favored by President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and other GOP leaders who support the measure steamed. Representative Mick Mulvaney (R., S.C.) celebrated the revolt as a coming-of-age moment for rebel backbenchers. “Yesterday will be the day that we look back at as the day that conservatives finally started getting organized in the House,” he wrote in a note to the Spartanburg Tea Party.

Led by Representative Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), a platoon of conservatives demanded that Boehner agree to a series of concessions in exchange for their support for so-called Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), legislation that would give President Obama wider latitude to negotiate free-trade agreements. When GOP leadership ignored them, Jordan and his allies tried to kill the bill on a procedural vote — a rare step made more surprising by the lawmakers’ general support for free trade. It was the boldest attempt yet from the recently formed House Freedom Caucus, which Jordan chairs, to counteract Boehner’s perceived tendency to wilt in the face of Democratic pressure.

Boehner On Obamatrade--'We Don't Have Votes'

By Scott Wong, Jun. 3, 2015, The Hill

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday said he's hopeful the House will pass legislation this month granting President Obama fast-track trade powers, but said the votes aren't there yet.

“I don't think we're quite there yet,” Boehner said in an interview on Fox News Radio's “Kilmeade & Friends.”

“But over the next couple weeks, we hope to get this bill on the floor and get it passed. It's an important priority for the country,” he said.

Boehner acknowledged some in his party are opposing the fast-track legislation, known as Trade Promotion Authority or TPA, simply because they don't trust Obama.

But the Speaker added: “This is not about the president; frankly, it's about the country. It’s why I've worked with the president on a number of trade agreements over the course of his tenure and my tenure as Speaker,” including deals with Panama and South Korea.

What A Child Found In Boehner’s Bathroom Has Capital Police In Hot Water

By Kara Pendleton, May 1, 2015, IJReview.com

Capitol police have come under fire, following reports that on three, verified occasions this year, they’ve left loaded firearms in public places.

Roll Call reported, based on the details that are available, on January 29:

…a member of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s security detail left his Glock and magazine stuffed in the toilet seat cover holder of a Capitol Visitor Center bathroom stall, a CVC worker found the gun

On March 24:

A 7- or 8-year-old child visiting the Capitol with his parents found the next loaded Glock lost by a dignitary protection officer, according to the source. A member of the security detail for John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, allegedly left the firearm in the bathroom of the Speaker’s Suite…

And on April 16:

A third Glock was found […] by a janitor cleaning the Capitol Police headquarters building on D Street NE. The weapon was left in plain sight, sparking additional concern about the department charged with protecting one of the world’s most important and frequently visited complexes.

The Hill writes that while the latter two incidents are “still under investigation,” in the former, a six-day suspension without pay was recommended by “police brass.” It goes on to note that the offices of both McConnell and Boehner have refused comment.

In an email to Roll Call, a police spokesperson commented on the situation:

Obama Campaign Team Arrives In Israel To Defeat Netanyahu In March Elections

By Thomas Rose, Feb. 8, 2015, FoxNation.com

Just days after the Obama White House accused House Speaker John Boehner of “breaking protocol” by inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress, a team of up to five Obama campaign operatives has reportedly arrived in Israel to lead a campaign to defeat the Israeli Prime Minister in upcoming national elections scheduled for March 17.

The anti-Netanyahu, left wing Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports a group called “One Voice,” reportedly funded by American donors, is paying for the Obama campaign team. That group is reportedly being led by Obama’s 2012 field director Jeremy Bird.

John Boehner Has No Idea How Republicans Will Get Out Of Their Immigration Mess

By Greg Sargent, Feb. 5, 2015,

For the third straight day, Democrats filibustered the Senate GOP’s effort to pass the House GOP bill that funded the Department of Homeland Security while rolling back Obama’s executive actions shielding millions from deportation. What happens now is unclear.

One thing is clear, however: John Boehner has no idea how Republicans are going to get out of this mess. Ed O’Keefe reports:

How exactly Republicans plan to proceed remains unclear. The impasse has once again exposed deep differences between hard-line conservatives strongly opposed to Obama’s immigration actions and more moderate Republicans who disagree with what the president did, but realize that they can do very little to reverse the president’s moves without super-majorities in the House and Senate.

Asked by reporters on Thursday if he knows how McConnell plans to proceed after three days of failing to advance the bill, House Speaker John A. Boehner shrugged his shoulders and said: “No.”

House GOP File Lawsuit Against Obama

By Andrew Rafferty and Alex Moe, Nov. 21, 2014, Nbcnews.com

House Republicans on Friday filed a long-awaited lawsuit accusing President Barack Obama of overstepping his executive authority when implementing his signature health care law.

And though the suit is centered on the Affordable Care Act, the GOP moved on the legal action the morning after the president announced he will unilaterally grant temporary relief to millions of undocumented immigrants.

"Time after time, the president has chosen to ignore the will of the American people and re-write federal law on his own without a vote of Congress. That's not the way our system of government was designed to work,” House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. “If this president can get away with making his own laws, future presidents will have the ability to as well. The House has an obligation to stand up for the Constitution, and that is exactly why we are pursuing this course of action."

The suit, filed against the heads of Health and Human Services and Treasury Department, is centered on the White House decision to delay the employer mandate of the health care law and accuses the administration of unlawfully giving $175 billion to insurance companies.

House Republicans approved a bill authorizing the legal action in a 225-201 vote in July. No Democrats supported the measure.

Boehner, McConnell Celebrate New Majority by Calling for Obamacare Repeal

By Evan McMurry, Nov. 6, 2014, Mediaite.com

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Majority Leader-in-waiting Mitch McConnell (R-KY) penned an op-ed in the Wall Street JournalThursday morning outlining their priorities for the next few years. A big’un: repealing Obamacare. (The word “replace” does not appear in the op-ed.)

Looking ahead to the next Congress, we will honor the voters’ trust by focusing, first, on jobs and the economy,” the pair wrote. “[This] means renewing our commitment to repeal ObamaCare, which is hurting the job market along with Americans’ health care.”

The House of Representatives has passed countless bills repealing the president’s signature law, though thus far they’ve been symbolic votes. Now that the GOP controls the Senate, they could challenge the president to veto a bill repealing the law.

However, while the law is overall unpopular, its individual provisions poll well, and many predict McConnell and Boehner to try to weaken it piecemeal.

Despite Hype, House Still Hasn't Sued Obama

Josh Gerstein, Oct. 24, 2014, Politico.com

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the Capitol to the federal courthouse just down the hill, but House Republicans haven’t managed to make that trip in the four months since they announced they’d be suing the president.

House Speaker John Boehner came out swinging hard last June when he announced that his chamber would take President Barack Obama to court. The suit, charging that the president grossly exceeded his constitutional authority by failing to implement portions of the Obamacare law, was billed as an election-season rallying point for aggrieved Republicans. But days before the midterms, the House’s legal guns seem to have fallen silent.

Lawyers close to the process said they originally expected the legal challenge to be filed in September, but now they don’t expect any action before the elections.

House Dems Suggest Obama Impeachment Is Imminent To Raise $

By Kellan Howell, Jul. 26, 2014, Washingtontimes.com

In a bid to bring in more campaign cash, House Democrats sent out a plea to donors to pitch in more funds to defend President Obama from a seemingly-imminent impeachment.

In an email notice, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee solicited immediate donations citing House Speaker John Boehner’s lawsuit against Mr. Obama.

PHOTOS: Obama's biggest White House 'fails'

“The White House announced yesterday that Boehner’s lawsuit could lead to the impeachment of President Obama,” the email read.

Boehner’s lawsuit against the President is more than a political stunt. It’s a full on attack on President Obama’s agenda, his legitimacy, and the Democratic process that elected him twice.”

The DCCC asked donors to reach into their pockets to smash their 100,000 donation goal saying, “We’ve had enough of it.”

The latest public campaign finance filings show that House Democrats are already ahead of Republicans in the election cycle.

The DCCC reported donations of $10.9 million in June, roughly $5.6 million more than the RCCC.

United States Supreme Court
By Rob Garver, Jun. 27, 2014, Finance.yahoo.com

In a combative speech Friday morning, President Obama made clear that a rebuke from the Supreme Court this week was not going to stop him from trying to work around a gridlocked Congress as he tries to implement his agenda.

He even took a moment to indirectly mock House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), who this week threatened to sue Obama over his use of executive orders to enact policy changes.

The remarks on Friday were especially significant, coming as they did just a day after the Supreme Court ruled that Obama had violated the Constitution by appointing members to the National Labor Relations Board during a three-day congressional recess. In his remarks, the president made clear he is not only unrepentant about his use of executive orders – he’s prepared to keep moving in the same direction.

“I’m not going to let gridlock, and inaction, and willful indifference, and greed, threaten the hard work of families like yours,” the president told a supportive crowd on the shore of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. “We can’t afford to wait for Congress right now. That’s why I’m going ahead and moving without them wherever I can.”

Rattling off a series of executive orders, including an increase in the minimum wage for federal contractors, a cap on student loan payments, and more, he contrasted the White House’s action with the relative inaction of the legislative branch.

“Now Republicans are mad at me for taking these actions. They’re not doing anything, and then they’re mad that I’m doing something,” Obama said. “I’m not sure which of the things I’ve done they find the most offensive, but they’ve decided they’re going to sue me for doing my job.”

By Matthew Balan, May 2, 2014, Newsbusters.org

On Friday, CBS Evening News caught up with its Big Three competitors and reported on the latest developments on the controversy surrounding the September 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya. CBS also finally mentioned its own president's family connection to a White House official involved in the Obama administration's handling of the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Nancy Cordes gave a full report on how the "the White House released previously unseen e-mails" about the federal government's response to the terrorist strike, which led to House Speaker John Boehner forming a new select committee to investigate the attack. Scott Pelley also disclosed that "Ben Rhodes, the White House deputy national security advisor mentioned in Nancy's story, is the brother of CBS News President David Rhodes."
