By Reuters, July 22, 2016

(Reuters) - Fourteen unidentified bodies with shot wounds to the head have been found in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, a hospital official said on Friday.

U.N. Libya envoy Martin Kobler said he was "shocked and dismayed by the summary execution," labelling it a war crime and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice.

The bodies were recovered from Laithi, a neighbourhood that forces loyal to eastern commander Khalifa Haftar captured this year from a loose alliance of Islamists and other opponents.

UK Accused Of Harbouring Libyan Cleric Who Helped Aid Islamist Insurgency

Britain has been accused of housing a possible war crimes suspect after the Guardian learned that Libya's highest spiritual leader, the grand mufti Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, helped orchestrate the Islamist takeover of Tripoli from the UK.

On a day when David Cameron announced tougher measures to tackle the threat from terrorists, the Foreign Office confirmed that Ghariani was residing in the UK, from where he is encouraging his followers to overthrow the Libyan government.

Earlier this week, the radical cleric celebrated the violent capture of Tripoli by Islamist militia force Libya Dawn and called for a widening of the rebellion using an online television channel registered by a close family relative in Exeter.

The day after Tripoli fell to the Islamist group Libya Dawn, Ghariani sent congratulations to the Islamist militants using his internet channel, Tanasuh: "I congratulate the revolutionaries in their victory, I give blessing to the martyrs," he said.

Ghariani's presence in Britain will prove acutely embarrassing for the government, emerging on the day the prime minister warned of a "greater and deeper threat to our security than we have known before" from Islamist extremists as the security threat level was raised from substantial to severe.

The matter is also likely to strain relations with Washington. American officials are understood to be furious that he has been allowed a pulpit to preach in the UK, particularly following his praise in June of the militant group Ansar Sharia, which the US blames for the killing of its ambassador Chris Stevens in Bengazi in 2012.

On Friday, CBS Evening News caught up with its Big Three competitors and reported on the latest developments on the controversy surrounding the September 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya. CBS also finally mentioned its own president's family connection to a White House official involved in the Obama administration's handling of the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Nancy Cordes gave a full report on how the "the White House released previously unseen e-mails" about the federal government's response to the terrorist strike, which led to House Speaker John Boehner forming a new select committee to investigate the attack. Scott Pelley also disclosed that "Ben Rhodes, the White House deputy national security advisor mentioned in Nancy's story, is the brother of CBS News President David Rhodes." Yesterday I wrote about the most significant email that the Obama administration produced in response to a FOIA request by Judicial Watch. It was sent by White House political operative Ben Rhodes to a variety of administration officials whose duties related to PR, not policy. Among the recipients were David Plouffe, Dan Pfeiffer, Dag Vega and Jay Carney. Sent on the Friday before Susan Rice made her infamous tour of the Sunday morning talk shows, it set the talking points for the prep session that the group had scheduled with Rice for Saturday afternoon. Here it is:

The White House should "come clean" and release all of its e-mails related to the crafting of former U.N. ambassador Susan Rice's message on the Benghazi attack, including ones redacted for supposed national security purposes, says the GOP.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a member of a House committee investigating the attack, made the demand a day after the release of an e-mail showing that White House aide Ben Rhodes wanted to blame the 2012 assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on a protest that never happened there.

Referring to Benghazi and Middle East unrest, he said that she should "underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy."

Chaffetz told USA TODAY that the White House has turned over e-mails with much of the content blocked out.

"There were other e-mails that went to Susan Rice. We got them with heavy redactions," Chaffetz told USA TODAY. "The White House needs to come clean on what they said."

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Wednesday that Rhodes' e-mail had been misconstrued because it was referring to protests happening across the Muslim world at the time.

"The e-mail and the talking points were not about Benghazi. They were about the general situation in the Muslim world," Carney said.

But the White House had provided the emails to House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform based on a request for communications on Benghazi. And portions on Rhodes' email that were blocked out pertained to Benghazi.

The emails came to light only after a watchdog group sued for the unblocked emails under a Freedom of Information Request.

Carney's claim is "laughable," Chaffetz said. "Susan Rice was asked about Benghazi and she repeated exactly what Ben Rhodes wanted her to say."

Susan Rice used her TV appearances to deny that the Benghazi attack was a terrorist plot and to blame it on a non-existent protest that turned violent. U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three State Department employees were killed in the attack, which the White House later acknowledged was a planned terrorist attack and not preceded by a protest.

Republican lawmakers have accused the White House of seeking to minimize the role of terrorism in the attack while President Obama was seeking re-election and claiming that al-Qaeda was in retreat.

Sharyl Attkisson
By Matthew Balan, Apr. 3, 2014, Newsbuster.org
On the Thursday edition of WMAL's Mornings on the Mall radio show, Sharyl Attkisson spotlighted the Obama administration's many inconsistencies in their claims about the September 11, 2012 Islamist attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.  Attkisson outlined, in detail, "all of the different stories told about the talking points" about the terrorist attack.

Former Fox News anchor Brian Wilson and Breitbart.com's Larry O'Connor turned to the former CBS News journalist for her take on former deputy CIA director Mike Morell's congressional testimony on the Benghazi issue on Wednesday.  She zeroed in on how Morell and others were trying to minimize any perception that the talking points were altered for political considerations: [MP3 audio of the full Attkisson segment available here]

SHARYL ATTKISSON: ...[T]he people defending the administration on the Benghazi talking points...led by Morell, are working so hard to try to dispel any idea that there was political motivation to leaving out the notion of terrorism, that they're all wrapped up in defending, what they admit, is bad intelligence decisions.  In other words, he spent yesterday defending why they went with the faulty intelligence that advanced...the bad narrative that was untrue – and...without anybody pointing out he was doing this, [he] just kept saying why that was the right decision – even though it resulted in the wrong intelligence. It was a little bit bizarre.

After former acting CIA Director Mike Morell testified to the House Intelligence Committee that he is the one who changed the Benghazi talking points, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) renewed her call for a select committee to investigate the attack. She suggested that Morell either lied to senators shortly after the attack, or lied during his testimony today.
Islamic terrorists assaulted the American facility at Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, killing for Americans just weeks before the presidential election. Despite copious evidence that was available during the attack and immediately afterward that it was a premeditated terrorist attack, the Obama administration from the president on down initially blamed the attack on a spontaneous protest sparked by an obscure YouTube movie. That take fit well with the Obama campaign narrative that al Qaeda was “on the run,” while al Qaeda killing four Americans in a coordinated assault on a US facility did not.
