Disgrace: DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson Has No Idea Who Kate Steinle Is

By Katie Pavlich, July 14, 2015 Red Alert Politics

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testified on Capitol Hill today about a series of ongoing immigration, illegal immigration and security issues. When asked about whether the Obama administration had reached out to the family of Kate Steinle, the 32-year-old woman who was killed in San Francisco two weeks ago by an illegal alien who had been deported five times, Johnson had no idea who she was.

"Has the administration reached out to the Steinle family, to your knowledge?" Rep. Steve Chabot asked Johnson.

"To who?" Johnson replied.

"To the family of the woman who brutally murdered by this individual who had committed seven different felonies in four different states and to my understanding had been deported, kept coming back, has the administration reached out to that family?" Chabot asked again.

Anonymous Issued Cryptic Tweet On Eve Of NYSE Suspension

By Jesse Byrnes July 8, 2015, The Hill

International hacking group Anonymous wished Wall Street ill the night before the New York Stock Exchange temporarily suspended trading on all securities.

New York trading was suspended around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday due to a "technical issue," the exchange said in a statement posted to Twitter.

The Department of Homeland Security said there was no indication the NYSE had been hacked, according to Bloomberg and CNN. The exchange said the glitch could not be attribute to "a cyber breach."

"The issue we are experiencing is an internal technical issue and is not the result of a cyber breach," it said in another statement. "We chose to suspend trading on NYSE to avoid problems arising from our technical issue. NYSE-listed securities continue to trade unaffected on other market centers."

The White House said President Obama had been briefed on the issue. Earlier in the day, United Airlines briefly grounded all of its flights due to a systemwide failure.

Anonymous has previously targeted Wall Street and made headlines in 2011 when it threatened to "destroy" the New York Stock Exchange.

Obama Administration Scales Back Deportations In Policy Shift

By Jerry Markon, Jul. 2, 2015, Washington Post

The Obama administration has begun a profound shift in its enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws, aiming to hasten the integration of long-term illegal immigrants into society rather than targeting them for deportation, according to documents and federal officials.

In recent months, the Department of Homeland Security has taken steps to ensure that the majority of the United States’ 11.3 million undocumented immigrants can stay in this country, with agents narrowing enforcement efforts to three groups of illegal migrants: convicted criminals, terrorism threats or those who recently crossed the border.

While public attention has been focused on the court fight over President Obama’s highly publicized executive action on immigration, DHS has with little fanfare been training thousands of immigration agents nationwide to carry out new policies on everyday enforcement.

Do H-1B Visas Steal Jobs From American Workers?

By Casey Logan, Jun. 19, 2015, News-Press.com

Ever heard of Hertz, Chico's FAS, FGCU or LeeMemorial Health System?

Those are among the dozens of companies doing business in Southwest Florida to seek employees through H-1B work visas, with the number of workers on these visas in the region appearing to be in the hundreds.

The visa is designed to be used for foreign workers in "specialty occupations," which require highly specialized knowledge, but that can be misleading.

The occupation list includes architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social science, biotech, medicine and health, education, law, accounting, business specialties, theology, and the arts.

Other recognizable businesses in Southwest Florida to apply for these visas include 21st Century Oncology, Algenol Biofuels, Arthrex and NeoGenomics.

Employers with jobs in the tech sector tend to use these visas more than any other and workers from India more than any other country are using them.

Homeland Security Looks For Leaker Of Report On Airport-Checkpoint Failures

By Ashley Halsey III, Jun. 9, 2015, Washington Post

The inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that he is investigating the leak of classified information from an undercover operation in which investigators were able to slip through airport security with weapons and phony bombs more than 95 percent of the time.

“We have started an investigation to determine where the leak was,” Inspector General John Roth told the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

The information received widespread attention in the news media and on Capitol Hill. Roth told the panel that he had briefed top officials about his findings without the information leaking to the public.

“I was as disturbed as anyone that this information got into the media,” he said.

He declined to discuss in Tuesday’s public hearing any aspect of the investigation, in which auditors from his department were able to carry weapons or bomb-like material through airport-security checkpoints in 67 of 70 attempts this year.

DHS Budget Impasse Fuels Tension Between House, Senate Republicans

By Fox News, Feb. 11, 2105

House and Senate Republicans are having their first big family feud since taking control of Congress, as they hit a rock-hard budget impasse that threatens to trigger a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.

After a solid 16 months without a government shutdown of any kind, Congress is careening toward an end-of-the-month funding deadline for DHS without a new budget.

The House already passed a bill that includes provisions overturning President Obama's controversial immigration executive actions. But despite repeated attempts last week, the Senate was unable to pass that bill -- as Democrats blocked it, over and over again. Democrats want the immigration provisions stripped.

Yet House Republican leaders are refusing to take another crack at the bill. A senior House GOP leadership aide told Fox News there is no backup plan -- they are insisting the House-passed bill is the only proposal.

Fed Gov't Made $20 Bil In Secret Purchases In Recent Mths

Photo via Flickr
Scott MacFarlane, Nov. 1, 2014, NBC News

The federal government has spent at least $20 billion in taxpayer money this year on items and services that it is permitted to keep secret from the public, according to an investigation by the News4 I-Team.

The purchases, known among federal employees as “micropurchases,” are made by some of the thousands of agency employees who are issued taxpayer-funded purchase cards. The purchases, in most cases, remain confidential and are not publicly disclosed by the agencies. A sampling of those purchases, obtained by the I-Team via the Freedom of Information Act, reveals at least one agency used those cards to buy $30,000 in Starbucks Coffee drinks and products in one year without having to disclose or detail the purchases to the public.

FLASHBACK:  Homeland Security Chief Jeh Johnson: Illegals Have ‘Earned The Right To Be Citizens’

By Penny Starr, Jan. 24, 2014, CNSNews.com / Breitbart.com

Speaking at the United States Conference of Mayors on Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the approximately 11 million people who are in the country illegally have “earned the right to be citizens.”

“An earned path to citizenship for those currently present in this country is a matter of, in my view, homeland security to encourage people to come out from the shadows,” said Johnson, in what he remarked was one of his first public speeches since being confirmed as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief in December.

“It is also, frankly, in my judgment, a matter of who we are as Americans,” he said, “to offer the opportunity to those who want to be citizens, who’ve earned the right to be citizens, who are present in this country – many of whom came here as children – to have the opportunity that we all have to try to become American citizens.”

U.S. Confirms ISIL Planning Infiltration Of U.S. Southern Border

By Adam Kredo, Sept. 10, 2014, Freebeacon.com

A senior Homeland Security (DHS) official confirmed to Congress on Wednesday that militants associated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) are planning to enter the United States via the porous southern border.

Francis Taylor, under secretary for intelligence and analysis at DHS, told senators during a hearing that ISIL supporters are known to be plotting ways to infiltrate the United States through the border.

“There have been Twitter, social media exchanges among ISIL adherents across the globe speaking about that as a possibility,” Taylor told Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) in response to a question about “recent reports on Twitter and Facebook of messages that would urge infiltration into the U.S. across our southwestern border.”

“Certainly any infiltration across our border would be a threat,” Taylor said, explaining that border security agents are working to tighten measures that would prevent this from taking place.

“I’m satisfied we have the intelligence and the capability on our border that would prevent that activity,” Taylor said.

However, McCain was dubious, referring to recent videos released by activist James O’Keefe showing him crossing the border while wearing an Osama bin Laden mask.

Asked by McCain why agents did not stop O’Keefe, Taylor could not provide an answer.

“You can’t answer it because they weren’t there to stop him,” McCain responded.

Graham On Islamic State: 'Assume The  Worst'

By Andrew Johnson, Aug. 24, 2014, Nationalreview.com

The United States needs to take the threat of the Islamic State more seriously than the “JV team” characterization President Obama gave the group in an interview earlier this year, according to Senator Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.). He warned of a potential attack within American borders, especially in light of recent intelligence that Americans citizens are working with the group.

“Do they have the capability to hit the homeland? I would say yes — it’s about time now to assume the worst about these guys rather than underestimating them,” Graham said on CNN’s State of the Union. “They’re in competition with the other jihadist groups, and the gold medal will be awarded to the group that can hit America.”

A successful hit on American soil would increase the Islamic State’s status and attract more recruits to the terrorist organization, he explained.

Obama Administration Released Over 600 Illegals With Criminal Convictions

Source:  www.dailysignal.com
By Sharyl Attkisson, Aug. 12,  2014, Dailysignal.com

More than 600 convicted criminals, including felons, were among thousands of illegal immigrants freed under the Obama administration in advance of 2013 budget cuts mandated under sequestration.

That’s according to a new report today from the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security.

"The Obama administration released 2,226 immigrant detainees, 617 of whom had criminal convictions."

According to the IG’s report, at least two-dozen “aliens” were released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement even though they were in a “mandatory detention category.” (After an internal review, ICE later redetained them.)

The report provides a scathing portrayal of budget mismanagement and flawed processes at the highest levels inside the nation’s immigration enforcement agency.

Immigrants To Be Housed In 'Suites' With Flat Screen TV's

By KRGV / ABC 5 News, Jul. 31. 2014

KARNES CITY - Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday will open a remodeled detention center three hours north of the Rio Grande Valley.

The Karnes City center will house women and children who entered the country illegally through the Valley.

The 532-bed facility underwent a massive renovation to house women and children. The center housed only adult immigrants in the past.

Immigrants will be at the facility for an average of 23 days.

The feds said the rooms will be referred to as "suites." The suites are furnished with bunk beds, play tables for children, flat-screen television sets and landline telephones.

"I will refer to everyone in this facility as a resident. ICE generally refers to people in custody as detainees," ICE San Antonio Field Office Director Enrique Lucero said.

Lucero oversaw the transformation of the center.

The center has a soccer field covered with artificial turf, basketball courts, ping pong tables and a weight room. Officials also have plans to install a playground.

By Watchmen-news.com, Jul. 10, 2014

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson argued Wednesday that there are more cost-effective and efficient ways to confront the ongoing border crisis than President Obama’s emergency funding request for $3.7 billion to be dispersed across multiple agencies.

“The $300 million dollar [State Department] request for – I guess improving conditions in those Central American countries… You know, we’re finding we’re not particularly good at improving our own economy. Isn’t it a pipe dream to spend $295 million trying to improve the conditions and expecting that is going to solve the problem, as opposed to sending planeloads full of these kids back to their families?” Johnson asked during a Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing.

Tuesday, President Obama submitted a request to Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with the ongoing situation at the border. Since October an unprecedented 52,000 unaccompanied minors have been apprehended illegally crossing the southern border, most believing they can stay.

“I think we need to be doing everything we can on all levels – both promoting economic growth, expanding repatriation, sending more people back. All of these things have to be done; this is a complex problem, and there is no easy simple solution,” said Francisco Palmieri, the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central America and the Caribbean in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.

By Brandon Darby, Jul. 7, 2014, Breitbart.com

HOUSTON, Texas— A leaked internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that recent public assertions made by the Administration were at best half-truths regarding the deportations and motivations of the waves of minors illegally entering the United States. The leaked report's release date is identified as June 3, 2014. The internal report was leaked to Breitbart Texas by a trusted law enforcement source in DHS who wishes to remain unidentified.

The report, identified as “De-Classified” and “Law Enforcement Sensitive,” reveals the fact that only 0.1 percent of the Central American minors illegally entering the U.S. having been deported in Fiscal Year 2013, down from two percent prior, plays a significant role in why the current border crisis is occurring. The DHS-ICE agency report admits the fact that 98 percent are allowed to stay is a significant draw for the minors to come into the United States. The agency acknowledges that conditions in Central America play a role in why the wave is occurring, but directly contradicts the assertion that such conditions are the only significant reason the crisis exists. The report directly contradicts any assertion U.S. government refusals to deport illegal immigrants is not a significant factor in why the crisis is occurring.

The report further reveals that Central American nations are doing little to curb the flow of illegal immigration to the U.S. and attributes the lack of efforts in the host nations to stop the flow to the nations wanting their nationals to send money back home from the United States. The report also indicates that family members from the host nations already residing in the U.S. is a major draw for the current crisis. This indicates that illegal aliens already within the U.S. are possibly drawing more to illegally migrate north.

The report states:
Migration pull factors include reunification with family members already in the United States and successful migration attempts; that is, most (98 percent) OTM UCs are issued a Notice to Appear and not immediately removed from the United States. Last year, only 1,700 UCs were repatriated to their home countries.” The report also clarifies the statement: HSI-Intel assesses with high confidence that reunification with family members already in the United States continues to be a pull factor for UCs from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

By Brittany M. Hughes, Jun. 25, 2014, CNSNews.com

Standing on the American bank of the Rio Grande in Hidalgo County, Texas, 31-year-old Velma Santos told U.S. Border Patrol officers she did not know what to expect when she first set foot on American soil – only that now her two daughters would be able to go to an American school.

“People told me, they said if you go to the United States, your children can go to school,” she told CNSNews.com.

She also said she had been told by other people that if she came to the United States, she could stay.

Reporters from CNSNews.com were shadowing border patrol officers responsible for monitoring a portion of Anzalduas Park, a recreational area in Hidalgo County, Texas. The park sits in a section of the Rio Grande Valley Sector – a 250-costal-mile portion of the US-Mexico border that has struggled under a massive wave of illegal immigrants since February.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, more than 181,000 illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico have crossed over the river into the United States in this one sector alone since October 2013.

By Caroline May, Mar. 31, 2014, Daily Beast
The Obama administration is threatening public safety by deliberately hampering immigration law and releasing aliens with criminal records, according to a new review of internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement data.
A Center for Immigration Studies report to be released Monday and obtained in advance by The Daily Caller, found that last year ICE reported nearly 722,000 encounters with illegal or criminal immigrants. But ICE officers filed immigration charges against less than 195,000 aliens.
“According to ICE personnel, the vast gap between the number of encounters reported and the number of aliens put on the path to removal exists because officers are not permitted to file charges against aliens who do not fall into the administration’s narrowly defined criteria for enforcement, regardless of the criminal charges or the circumstances in which the alien was identified,” the report, authored by CIS director of policy studies Jessica Vaughan, reads.

Since June 2011, when the first of the Obama administration’s “prosecutorial discretion” policies were put in place, the report adds, interior ICE arrests have declined by 40 percent.

By Andrew Stiles, Feb. 10, 2014, National Review
Proponents of comprehensive immigration reform aren’t buying the Republican argument that President Obama simply can’t be trusted to secure the border or enforce new immigration laws.
The Washington Post editorial board called this suggestion “transparently false,” citing the “record” number of deportations under the Obama administration. Meanwhile, liberal activists have urged the president to halt all deportations of illegal immigrants via executive action.
But there is ample evidence to suggest the administration’s deportation record is severely inflated, or at the very least misrepresented.

Consider the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report on year-end removal numbers for fiscal year 2013. ICE reported a total of 368,644 removals for the year (down considerably from the 409,949 removals reported the previous year).
