Ben Carson: ‘I Used To Be A Flaming Liberal’

By Genevieve Wood, July 30, 2015 Daily Signal

I had the chance to speak with Dr. Ben Carson recently about the Planned Parenthood scandal, his views on America’s growing debt and something I’ve always wanted to ask a brain surgeon…how do you explain the liberal brain?

You can watch the full video or jump to specific topics via the time codes below:

Ben Carson On Charleston Shootings: Racism ‘Still Very Much Alive’

By Jessica Chasmar, June 18, 2015, The Washington Times

Retired neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson took to Facebook Thursday to express his condolences to the families of the nine church congregants shot and killed by a deranged gunman in Charleston, South Carolina.

“Last night evil walked the streets of Charleston. My heart aches for the families of the victims. I pray for the families left behind,” he wrote. “I pray for the community scared and hurting. I also pray you and I can conquer hatred.

“In my lifetime I have seen such great progress. Though racial based hate is still very much alive as last night so violently reminded us,” Mr. Carson continued. “But I worry about a new hate that is growing in our great nation. I fear our intolerance of one another is the new battle ground of evil. Today many feel it is OK to hate someone who thinks differently than you do.

New Report Alleges Chaos In Ben Carson Campaign

By Kara Stiles, Jun. 6, 2015, MSNBC

After garnering considerable support among conservative voters, Ben Carson’s campaign appears to have hit some unexpected speed bumps. The GOP presidential hopeful and campaign first-timer finds himself in a tough spot after four key staffers announced they were leaving his campaign.

According to the Washington Post, the four recent resignations have “gutted the core of Carson’s apparatus and left the 63-year-old first-time candidate with only a handful of experienced advisers.” The ill-timed departure of four of Carson’s key players – campaign chairman Terry Giles, national finance chairman Jeff Reeter, deputy campaign manager Stephen Rubino and general counsel Kathy Freberg – have left him in a bit of a political pickle.

Since announcing his bid for the nomination last month in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan, the retired neurosurgeon has gained substantial steam among tea partiers and other right-wing organizations – positioning the self-proclaimed non-politician as a legitimate contender for the GOP nomination. Last week’s Fox News poll showed Carson sitting close to the top of a growing list of Republican 2016 contenders. GOP primary voters ranked him just slightly behind more traditional candidates like former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin governor Scott Walker.

Ben Carson's Campaign Faces Turmoil Amid Staff Exits And Super PAC Rivalry

By Robert Costa and Philip Rucker, Jun. 5, 2015, Washington Post

The presidential candidacy of Ben Carson, a tea party star who has catapulted into the top tier of Republican contenders, has been rocked by turmoil with the departures of four senior campaign officials and widespread disarray among his allied super PACs.

In interviews Friday, Carson’s associates described a political network in tumult, saying the retired neurosurgeon’s campaign chairman, national finance chairman, deputy campaign manager and general counsel have resigned since Carson formally launched his bid last month in Detroit. They have not been replaced, campaign aides said.

The moves gutted the core of Carson’s apparatus and left the 63-year-old first-time candidate with only a handful of experienced advisers at his side as he navigates the fluid, crowded and high-stakes contest for the Republican nomination.

Ben Carson Says He Can Win The SC GOP Presidential Primary

By Schuyler Kropf, May 26, 2015, PostAndCourrier.com

Presidential candidate and retired doctor Ben Carson said Tuesday that he has enough appeal to win the South Carolina primary and plans to branch out beyond the tea party-aligned Republicans who support him the strongest.

“I hope my audience is everybody, not any particular faction,” Carson said Tuesday during a stop in Charleston.

“I think people are going to be, hopefully, listening to the candidates and hopefully listening to the solutions that the candidates have and making decisions based on that,” he said. “And if that’s the case, then I think I have an excellent opportunity.”

Carson’s comments came following a meeting of the Greater Lowcountry Republican Club on James Island where he was the guest speaker.

Carson, who won the straw poll at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City over the weekend, said one reason he is running is because of the decline of morality in America.

“We’re turning into a country where we are progressively throwing away all of our values for political correctness,” he said.
