Top Democrat Sets Off Intraparty Fury After Saying Obamacare Passage Was A 'Mistake!

Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-New York) comments on Wednesday about Democrats’ misguided focus on health care in President Barack Obama’s first term prompted backlash from top Democrats and left-leaning groups, who accused him of being politically craven.

At a speech before the National Press Club in Washington on Tuesday, Schumer said Democrats made a mistake by entering into a fight over health care after they passed the 2009 economic stimulus.

Chuck Schumer has joined Harry Reid in obsessive attacks on Charles and David Koch and their company, Koch Industries. Yesterday Schumer told Politico that the Democrats’ attacks on the Koch brothers are paying off politically, and they intend to continue them. He described the brothers’ “real agenda”:

They’re spending $40, $50 million in ads that are not focused on their real agenda, which is just eliminating all regulation on corporations, cutting taxes to virtually nothing.

Here is the funny thing: when KochPAC, Koch Industries’ political action committee, donated money to Schumer’s 2010 Senatorial campaign, Schumer thought the Kochs were wonderful. Here is the letter of appreciation he wrote, dated October 28,2009.

Many know the Koch brothers as the Republicans’ biggest ally. But it wasn’t too long ago that the Kochs were actually donating to the Democrats.
Yes, the Koch brothers have given millions of dollars to both conservative and libertarian causes, but their PAC, privately held by Koch Industries, also gave to Democratic candidates and causes. The money is being spent on trying to influence the list of lawmakers which includes Chuck Schumer, Mary Landrieu and Mark Pryor.
