NBC News anchor Brian Williams is in quite a bit of trouble over his admission that his decade-long claim to have endured heavy fire while flying in a military helicopter over Baghdad in 2003 was a fabrication. Accordingly, journalists are beginning to review other extraordinary claims Williams made over the course of his career, and they are not short on material to parse.

The team over at GotNews flagged an interesting moment from a 2006 interview in which Williams waxed regretful about the devastating flooding in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

IRS Re-hires Hundreds Of Employees Fired For Cause--Including Tax Cheats

By Noah Rothman, Feb. 6, 2015, Townhall.com

Democrats must be thrilled that the allegations involving the IRS deliberately targeting conservative groups in order to intimidate them or prevent them from participating in the political process have largely faded from the public mind. The left is content to insist that the agency has been absolved of any wrongdoing – not because it was actually cleared of any misconduct, mind you, but because the agency may also have unfairly targeted liberals as well as conservatives. That’s some defense.

But the IRS scandal uncovered in the spring of 2013, when Lois Lerner preemptively apologized for targeting conservative groups after planting a question about that as yet unknown controversy at a routine press conference, has not disappeared. As recently as December of last year, former House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R-CA) sixth and final report on the IRS targeting scandal accused the tax collection agency of incubating a “culture of bias.”

The Washington Post’s report on Issa’s final condemnation of the IRS is indicative of how the members of the political press, in particular, have written off the scandal as nothing more than a partisan witch-hunt.

“The report failed to show the White House coordinated with IRS officials to target conservative groups, a charge several Republican lawmakers made when the controversy first broke,”The Post reported. “Issa, who suggested then-White House press secretary Jay Carney was a ‘paid liar’ for suggesting a small number of IRS officials pursued this strategy on their own, made it clear the administration kept the committee from reaching a final answer on the question.”

Will Hillary Face Another Liberal Revolt In Iowa?

Noah Rothman, Jan. 5, 2015, Hot Air

“Interviews with more than half of Democratic chiefs in Iowa’s 99 counties show a state party leadership so far reluctant to coalesce behind Mrs. Clinton. County Democratic officials also voiced qualms about Mrs. Clinton’s ability to win a general election and her fundraising ties to Wall Street firms and corporations, which remain a target of liberal ire,” read a report in Monday’s Wall Street Journal that should concern Team Hillary.

Watch Harry Reid Say Silly Things For Five Glorious Minutes

By Noah Rothman, Aug. 26, 2014, Hotair.com

The folks over at Roll Call have compiled a pretty perfect video of Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) greatest hits. And by “greatest hits,” I mean examples of his tenuous grasp on reality and increasingly frequent senior moments.

At just over five minutes, the video is slightly longer than the attention span of the average internet user. Every second is, however, worth it.

The video’s only shortfall is that these greatest hits were comprised entirely of statements Reid made in the Capitol. The Senate Majority Leader has made his share of … impolitic statements, we’ll say, outside of those marbled halls, too.

Hot Air: Want To Go Blind With Rage? Read This Letter From ISIS To The Foley Family

John and Diane Foley

By Noah Rothman, Aug. 22, 2014, Hotair.com

The Global Post, the media outlet which employed the slain American journalist James Foley, revealed this week that both they and the Foley family had been in contact with Islamic State militants who demanded a cash ransom for the release of their prisoner.

On November 26, 2013, the Foley family was told by IS militants demanded $132 million and the release of unspecified prisoners in American captivity in exchange for James Foley, the Global Post revealed. That negotiation proved unsuccessful, and there was no communication between IS militants and the Foleys until August 12, 2014 when they received another letter with a series of much more specific demands that the terrorists claimed were unmet.

It is as much a letter from ISIS to America as it is to the Foley family.

The Global Post decided on Thursday to publish this letter in full:

HOW LONG WILL THE SHEEP FOLLOW THE BLIND SHEPPARD?
A message to the American government and their sheep like citizens:
We have left you alone since your disgraceful defeat in Iraq. We did not interfere in your country or attack your citizens while they were safe in their homes despite our capability to do so.
As for the scum of your society who are held prisoner by us, THEY DARED TO ENTER THE LION’S DEN AND WHERE [sic] EATEN!
“Today our swords are unsheathed towards you, GOVERNMENT AND CITIZENS ALIKE! AND WE WILL NOT STOP UNTILL WE QUENCH OUR THIRST FOR YOUR BLOOD,” the letter continued. “You do not spare our weak, elderly, women or children so we will NOT spare yours!”

By Noah Rothman, Apr. 9, 2014, Mediaite.com

In an extensive report based on documents uncovered by The Smoking Gun, MSNBC host Al Sharpton is named as a former mafia “associate” who was complicit in criminal acts. That ended when the Federal Bureau of Investigation approached Sharpton and solicited him to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine, taped his interaction with an undercover agent, and forced him to “flip” after he indicated he was open to the proposal.

The documents allege that Sharpton went on to extort music labels for funds for his nonprofit organization and to maintain his connections with the mob, all while collecting information for the FBI which were later applied to indictments of several major organized crime figures. To MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, this story makes Sharpton a “great example to people.”

“I helped the government against guys that were in the music industry mobsters who threatened me,” Sharpton asserted on Morning Joe.

“Is that a bad thing?” Scarborough asked incredulously.

“You’re supposed to do that,” Sharpton replied.

He said that the FBI was attempting to “ensnare” him and his group in a plan to investigate the mafia’s ties to professional boxing, which is exactly what you would say about your voluntary association with law enforcement. In fact, the allegations in The Smoking Gun report indicate that Sharpton’s ties to boxing promoter Don King made him a target of interest to both the mob and to the FBI.

The Bureau allegedly sought his “help” by confronting him with a tape in which Sharpton indicated he was interested in purchasing $35,000 worth of cocaine.
“It’s a great example to people,” Scarborough says. “So, we’ve got that taken care of.”
