Repressive Regimes Donated to Clinton Foundation, Got Federal Approval for Arms Deals

Reuters
By Ben Mathis Lilley, May 26, 2015, Slate.com

Repressive regimes in Algeria, Kuwait, and Qatar donated to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state and also "gained State Department clearance to buy caches of American-made weapons" during that time, anInternational Business Times investigation reports.

The IBT piece reviews all known donations to the Clinton Foundation by countries and defense contractors involved in arms deals that were approved by the State Department during Hillary Clinton's tenure. During a broader increase in military exports under the Obama administration, more than $300 billion worth of weapons shipments were approved to 20 countries that were or have since become Clinton Foundation donors. Some of these recipients were longtime United States allies, such as Australia and Germany, with relatively upstanding recent records on human rights. Others weren't:

The State Department formally approved ... arms sales even as many of the deals enhanced the military power of countries ruled by authoritarian regimes whose human rights abuses had been criticized by the department.

IRS Ethics Lawyer Facing Possible Disbarment, Accused Of Lying

Credit:  AP
By Jim Elhatton, Aug. 26, 2014, Washingtonpost.com

A lawyer in the IRS ethics office is facing the possibility of being disbarred, according to records that accuse her of lying to a court-appointed board and hiding what she’d done with money from a settlement that was supposed to go to two medical providers who had treated her client.

The disciplinary arm of the D.C. Court of Appeals has recommended that Takisha McGee, a section manager in the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, lose her law license over the charge, which stems from a personal injury case she worked about a year before she joined the tax agency.

Ms. McGee, who recently gave a speech to the Florida bar titled “When your license to practice before the IRS is on the line,” acknowledged in a phone interview Tuesday that her own job is on the line as she fights disbarment proceedings.

“Does it keep me up worrying? Yes,” she said. “As it relates to my job, may I possibly lose it? Yes, I face that fact each and every day.”

Perry Grand Juror Also A Texas Democratic Party Delegate?

By Ed Morrissey, Aug. 21 2014, Hotair.com

The Texas grand jury that indicted Rick Perry for threatening to issue a line-item veto want everyone to know that they are offended at the notion that this indictment is in any way political. “[We] “really tried to keep an open mind and come to a fair decision given all the testimony that we heard,” one juror told the Houston Chronicle. “I think if and when the facts come out, [public perception will] change,” said another. A third seemed to dance around her involvement in the proceedings while still defending them:

Rho Chalmers, who name matches that of a grand juror but would only confirm her service on a jury that ended last week, said grand juries involve careful consideration of facts.
“For me, it’s not a political decision,” Chalmers said. “That’s what a grand jury is about – take the emotion out of it and look at the facts and make your best decision based on your life experience.”
But did they? MediaTrackers took a close look at Chalmers and discovered that she may have some “emotion” that she didn’t bother to disclose to the Chronicle — and some politics in her “life experience” as well:
Rho Chalmers, who disclosed to the Houston Chronicle yesterday that she was a member of the grand jury that indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry, was an active delegate to the Texas Democratic Party convention during grand jury proceedings. Chalmers’ active participation in Democratic state politics is important because she claimed yesterday to the Houston Chronicle that her decision to indict Perry, a Republican, was not based on politics.
They also discovered evidence that Chalmers attended a political event for politician who was at the same time providing testimony to the grand jury:
More troubling, however, is the fact that Chalmers attended, photographed, and commented on an event with Democratic state Sen. Kirk Watson while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.
Watson was a witness in front of the grand jury. On June 27, 2014, Chalmers shared a photo of the Watson event on a community Facebook page she started called Developer’s Dungeon. “Senator Kirk Watson telling the story of the Wendy Davis fillibuster (sic),” she wrote in a comment accompanying the picture. …
Numerous posts from both of Chalmers’ Facebook pages — her personal page, which she shares with her husband, Davis [David, apparently, from the screen caps -- Ed], and her “Developer’s Dungeon” page — make clear that she is a partisan Democratic activist, and that she was an active participant in the Texas Democratic Party’s state convention in June while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.
It’s possible that there are two completely different people of the same name in Travis County, but Rho Chalmers seems like an unusual name to chalk up to coincidence. If it’s the same Rho Chalmers and she sat on the grand jury that produced this indictment, then it makes the action against Perry look even more like a political hit job — which may be why Chalmers played a little coy about her connection to the indictment with the Houston Chronicle.

Recently departed CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson appeared with Howard Kurtz on Fox's Media Buzz on Sunday. Kurtz said her forthcoming book is titled “Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama’s Washington.” Kurtz asked her to define those forces.

"I think any journalist who has been covering Washington for a few years would agree… that there is pressure coming to bear on journalists for just doing their job in ways that have never come to bear before." (Video below)

It seems that for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., the rules don’t matter.  On Wednesday, we reported that Reid’s official Senate website includes a page dedicated to attacking the Koch brothers, private citizens with whom Reid disagrees.  But it turns out that page violates Senate Internet policies regarding webpages, the Daily Caller reported on Wednesday.

The Daily Caller reports:
By Robby Soave, Apr. 2, 2014, The Daily Caller
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has escalated his war of words against the billionaire Koch brothers by publishing an anti-Koch hit piece on his Senate.gov page, despite official rules prohibiting the use of U.S. senators’ .gov websites for political purposes.
The Senate.gov web page belonging to the Nevada Democrat currently features a list of “facts” about the Koch brothers, their limited government views and financial support for candidates that support these views.
“The Kochs want to abolish Social Security,” reads the page. “The Kochs spent $400 million on misleading attack ads in the last election cycle.”
