Will Movie Theaters Ever Respond To Mass Shootings?

There have been three mass shootings in movie theaters since 2012. Yet there’s been no beefing up of security.

Wednesday saw a sad milestone, another movie theater shooting, in the Nashville, Tennessee area. A few weeks ago, there was a shooting that left three moviegoers dead in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the July 2012 shooting of 12 people at a theater in Aurora, Colorado is still etched in people’s memories (defendant James Holmes was found guilty of that shooting last month).

So, the question arises: what changes are theaters making to protect customers and to keep their businesses going?

Homeland Security Releases Emails Showing Political Influence for Sony, Time Warner Projects

The newly released documents buttress a report issued late last month detailing how an immigration director was swayed with respect to hundreds of millions of dollars in film and TV investments under the EB-5 visa program.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general has released hundreds of pages of emails plus other documents in support of its investigation of improper influence on the EB-5 immigration program. Many of the documents discuss hundreds of millions of dollars in financing for film and television productions from Sony Pictures and Time Warner with prominent politicians including former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendall and the office of former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa interjecting in an effort to get approvals.

ince inception in 1990, the EB-5 visa program allows foreign nationals to become conditional permanent residents upon an investment of at least $500,000 for a qualifying project that creates American jobs.

Secret Service Discloses 40 Barrier-Jumping Incidents

The Secret Service on Friday provided a thorough accounting to Congress about the number of security breaches over the last five years at the White House complex and the circumstances surrounding them.

The documents highlight the difficulty of protecting the sprawling White House compound from mentally ill individuals determined to breach security.

Ten separate instances involve someone scaling the fixed security fencing surrounding the White House complex to access a restricted area without authorization.

Germany Could Be Home To 7,000 Muslim Extremist By Christmas

German authorities fear there could be as many as 7,000 Muslim extremists in the country by the end of the year. Disenfranchised youths are particularly vulnerable to being recruited, while there are around 450 German extremists in Syria and Iraq.

The extremists all follow the strict interpretation of Islam known as Salafism and believe that jihad is a legitimate tool in their fight against the West, which they believe is an enemy of Islam. Hans-Georg Maassen, who is the head of Germany’s BfV domestic intelligence agency,told rbb-Inforadi that there are currently around 6,300 Islamic extremists in Germany, but this figure could rise to as many as 7,000 by the end of the year, AP reports.

There has been a steep rise in the number of Germans attracted to fundamentalist Islam. Three years ago there were only in the region of 3,800 followers of Salafism in the country, which then rose to 4,500 in 2012.
