4 Poll Numbers That Should Make Hillary Worried

Four poll numbers came out over the weekend that are decidedly sobering for Hillary Clinton's presidential prospects in 2016.

The first two come from NBC/Marist College polls conducted in Iowa and New Hampshire. In Iowa, 23 percent more people saw Clinton in an unfavorable light than a favorable one; in New Hampshire, that gap is 20 points.

Then there are these numbers from two national polls released over the weekend. Here's Clinton long-term favorable/unfavorable trend line in Gallup:

Who Is The Worst President Since WWII? --Imagine ranking without media/academia/Hollywood bias.

As if President Obama doesn't have enough to worry about running the country day-to-day, now his legacy can be added to his laundry list of concerns.

Mr. Obama edges out former President George W. Bush as the worst president since World War II, American voters say, according to a new Quinnipiac Poll released Wednesday.

Thirty-three percent chose Mr. Obama as the worst among the 12 presidents since Harry Truman, with 28 percent choosing George W. Bush and Richard Nixon tallying 13 percent. In 2006, Mr. Bush led the pack with 34 percent over Richard Nixon at 17 percent and Bill Clinton at 16 percent, much higher than the scant 3 percent who currently think Clinton is the worst.
Who is the finest first lady of them all?

When asked who the best president is since World War II, 35 percent of American voters chose Ronald Reagan, 18 percent picked Clinton and 15 percent selected John F. Kennedy. Only 8 percent said Mr. Obama was the best since World War II and George W. Bush barely registered on the "best" list with 1 percent.

It seems the patriotism and unity the nation experienced in the aftermath of 9/11 has waned—and quite considerably, according to a recent Pew poll.

Fox News has the details:
[A]n exhaustive new Pew poll shows that actual patriotism is in the dumps. An amazing 44 percent of all respondents said they didn’t often feel proud to be American. Only 28 percent said that America was the greatest nation on earth.
Not surprisingly, there’s a strong split on a partisan level, with Democrats more likely to say they are less proud to be an American.
Pew divided their sample into different categories across the left-right political spectrum. When asked if respondents “often feel proud to be American,” a majority of strong liberals, 60 percent, said no. The only group that solidly agreed with the statement was conservatives, ranging from 72 percent to 81 percent. About half of the respondents in the middle of the spectrum – essentially libertarians to socially conservative fiscal liberals – said they were proud to be American.
This isn’t just another eye-opening poll, however. What Pew has found is critically important for the direction of this country. As Fox News’ Chris Stirewalt asks: “how do you unite people to save the country if they’re not invested in its success?”

The Hill: Obama As Unpopular As George W. Bush In Poll

A new survey suggests President Obama is just as unpopular as former President George W. Bush.

Just over half of those polled, 51 percent, have an unfavorable view of Obama, and 51 percent currently feel the same about Bush, according to a CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday.

Forty-seven percent of the public has a favorable rating of Obama, which CNN said is a new low for him, and roughly identical to Bush’s favorable rating of 46 percent.

Days before leaving the White House in January 2009, Bush had a favorable rating of 35 percent. After the 2008 election, Obama had a 78 percent favorable rating.

Bush and Obama now have lower favorable ratings than their two predecessors. Nearly 70 percent have a positive view of former President Bill Clinton and nearly 60 percent have a favorable view of former President George H.W. Bush.

Hillary Clinton’s favorable ratings have slipped since she left the State Department in 2013. After her departure, 67 percent viewed her positively. Fifty-five percent view her that way now, the new poll found.

Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, joins her dad in having a higher rating than her mom, with nearly 60 percent holding a favorable view.

The poll surveyed 1,003 adults between May 29 and June 1 and has a 3 percentage point margin of error.

Gallup: Only 25% Satisfied With Direction of Country --5th year of "recovery"

A new poll shows that one-in-four Americans, 25%, are satisfied with the direction of the country at this time but 74% expressed dissatisfaction.


In the survey, which Gallup has done regularly since 1979, Americans were asked this question: “In general, are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time?”

Only 25% said “satisfied.” According to Gallup, “74% express dissatisfaction.”

“Americans' satisfaction with the country's direction has remained flat over the past year, with the major exception of a drop to a low of 16% in October 2013 during the U.S. federal government shutdown,” said Gallup. “Otherwise, satisfaction has not strayed from the 20% range since April of last year when it reached 30%. This month's 25% is essentially the same as the 24% from April and the 25% reading in March.”

Democrats face serious obstacles as they look to the November elections, with President Obama’s approval rating at a new low and a majority of voters saying they prefer a Congress in Republican hands to check the president’s agenda, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Obama’s approval rating fell to 41 percent, down from 46 percent through the first three months of the year and the lowest of his presidency in Post-ABC News polls. Just 42 percent approve of his handling of the economy, 37 percent approve of how he is handling the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and 34 percent approve of his handling of the situation involving Ukraine and Russia.

Obama receives low marks as Democrats face midterm turnout challenge

Obama’s low rating could be a significant drag on Democratic candidates this fall — past elections suggest that when approval ratings are as low as Obama’s, the president’s party is almost certain to suffer at the ballot box in November.

Republicans are favored to maintain control of the House, with the focus now on whether they can take control of the Senate. One key question about November is who will vote. Turnout in midterm elections is always lower than in presidential elections, and at this point, key elements of the Republican coalition — namely white voters and older voters — say they are more certain to cast ballots this fall than are younger voters and minorities, two groups that Democrats and Obama relied on in 2008 and 2012.
