The overwhelming majority of immigration to the United States is the result of our visa policies. Each year, millions of visas are issued to temporary workers, foreign students, refugees, asylees, and permanent immigrants for admission into the United States. The lion’s share of these visas are for lesser-skilled and lower-paid workers and their dependents who, because they are here on work-authorized visas, are added directly to the same labor pool occupied by current unemployed jobseekers. Expressly because they arrive on legal immigrant visas, most will be able to draw a wide range of taxpayer-funded benefits, and corporations will be allowed to directly substitute these workers for Americans. Improved border security would have no effect on the continued arrival of these foreign workers, refugees, and permanent immigrants—because they are all invited here by the federal government.

New Hampshire Poll: Trump 24%, Bush 12%

Another new poll out of New Hampshire indicates that Donald Trump’s recent dust-up with John McCain has not slowed the billionaire’s political momentum.

Trump now has a 2-to-1 advantage over Jeb Bush among likely voters in New Hampshire’s Republican primary, according to a Monmouth University Poll.

The New York businessman has 24% to Bush’s 12%, with John Kasich and Scott Walker tied for third at 7%.

“The controversy over comments about John McCain’s war service do not appear to have slowed the Trump steamroller,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, N.J.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire—Karl Savage is the kind of guy that makes top Democrats nervous.

He lives in a working-class neighborhood, with a cigar-store Indian perched on his front stoop and a carved Harley-Davidson sign on his garage. He's voted in Democratic primaries, he's older, he's white—and he does not care for Hillary Clinton. Not one little bit.

He made this very clear, in fact, to a Clinton campaign volunteer who rang his doorbell recently only to watch the front door close on him just seconds into his pitch. A short while later, his wife, Pamela, offered this explanation before similarly shutting the door: "We're not interested. We don't like her."

So while Republicans fret about their party's outreach to Latinos and other minorities, this one Saturday morning door-knock encapsulates the fear among leading Democrats: Their party no longer speaks to white people, particularly white men, and they could lose the White House because of it.

Carson Impresses New Hampshire Audience During Campaign Stop

DERRY — Presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson said Monday during a stop in Derry that his campaign is gaining supporters who have never participated politically.

The neurosurgeon told a standing room only crowd at Halligan Tavern that he has crisscrossed the country and had many Americans tell him they will make their first foray into politics by voting for him or donating to his campaign.

“I get that everywhere,” Carson said in his speech. “We are pulling in people from the sidelines.”

Carson said the country has a “can do attitude” but it has slipped in recent years, allowing government to gain more control. He cited Thomas Jefferson and his statements that Americans would become “lackadaisical and less vigilant,” allowing the government to take over every aspect of their lives.

He said Jefferson predicted that “we would turn from a country that is of the people, for the people and by the people to a country that is of the government, for the government and by the government.”

But to Jefferson’s credit he said that just before the country moved into another form of government, Americans would wake up and again gain control.

“And I think this is the time for us to do it right now,” he said to loud applause.

Carson said 93 million Americans didn’t vote in the 2012 election and 30 million Evangelicals also didn’t participate. His campaign has set its sights on this voting segment.

Scott Brown Takes Lead Again As GOP Zones In On New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — A new New England College poll shows former Scott Brown back in the lead over incumbent Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) by a point and a half.  Brown is up 48.3 percent to Shaheen’s 46.8 percent in the poll of 1,132 likely voters statewide. The poll was conducted on Oct. 24, and has a margin of error of 2.91 percent.  Dr. Wayne Lesperance, New England College's director of the Center for Civic Engagement, attributed Brown’s success to narrowing Shaheen’s lead among women voters.

“A 1.5 percent margin is incredibly narrow and makes this race a statistical dead heat. Brown’s recent success comes from narrowing the lead Shaheen had with women to just under 5 percent,” Lesperance said.  Shaheen has attempted to reignite the “war on women” rhetoric that helped propel President Barack Obama to a second term over Republican Mitt Romney on the campaign trail.

This weekend, with Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Liz Warren (D-MA) at her side, Shaheen and Warren both pushed the “equal pay for equal work” Democratic Party talking points bill. The bill hasn't gained much traction on the campaign trail -- federal law already makes it illegal to pay women less than men, or engage in gender discrimination in the workplace.
