On Jewish Matters--Comparing Obama With His Predecessors
On Jewish matters, comparing Obama with his predecessors. Last week, President Obama said that he is “the closest thing to a Jew that has ever sat” in the Oval Office. Which means, he said, that when people say he’s “anti-Israel,” “it hurts.” Since taking office, Mr. Obama has said many noxious things.
Mostly overlooked was something he said at a meeting with Senate Democrats early this year: that he understood why the senators were opposing his deal with Iran, because (according to the New York Times) “he understood the pressures that senators face from donors and others.” Needless to say, Obama was referring to the so-called Israel lobby, and to the general notion that support for Israel comes not from conviction, but from rich Jewish power-brokers.
New Jersey senator Bob Menendez — who has opposed Obama over Cuba as well as Israel and Iran — stood up and told the president that he was out of line; Menendez said he took “personal offense” at Mr. Obama’s remark. (Menendez was later indicted by Eric Holder’s Justice Department.)

A dismayed President Barack Obama recently vented to his friend and former chief campaign adviser David Axelrod about being perceived by some as a foe to Israel, according to JP Updates.com, The Daily Caller reported.
"'You know, I think I am the closest thing to a Jew that has ever sat in this office,'" Axelrod recalled during an interview. "'For people to say that I am anti-Israel, or, even worse, anti-Semitic, it hurts.'"

"A smaller group is made of respectable people who run for public office because they want to do something — something positive. Shape the future in a positive way. I think Benjamin Netanyahu completely falls in the first category.

The New Anti-Semitism: Majority Of British Jews Feel They Have No Future In UK, Says New Study

The warning is bolstered by a new YouGov poll showing that 45 per cent of Britons agreed with at least one of four antisemitic statements put to them. Some 25 per cent agreed with the idea that “Jews chase money more than other British people” while one in five accepted as true that “Jews’ loyalty to Israel makes them less loyal to Britain than other British people”.

The most recent FBI hate crime data is for 2013, and shows – as has been true for years – that the overwhelming majority of religious hate crimes reported to law enforcement agencies target Jews and Muslims. The 2013 data say 60 percent of the 1,166 offenses reported targeted Jews, while 13 percent targeted Muslims. The Anti-Defamation League, which tracks anti-Semitism, said in April 2013 that the total number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States was one of the lowest levels since the group started keeping records in 1979 — but that there was a significant increase in violent attacks from the previous year.

Every bit indigenous to the land no less than Jews who have lived there since before the time of Christ, the Druze, Bedouin and Christian Arabs for 66 years have proven to be patriotic, in favor of the Zionist government, serve in the army and are represented in the Knesset.
As an anecdote the fifth victim of the synagogue Jerusalem massacre a few days ago was a Druze policeman who gave his life in defense of his fellow citizens. They are saying that his actions prevented more from being killed. He is being hailed posthumously as a hero.

Where and How European Jews Are Winning

Jews are dramatically under attack in France, but Judaism is booming in Italy.
The mounting campaign against French Jews was notably on display with attacks against Parisian synagogues last week, and with big anti-Israel demonstrations over the weekend despite an official ban. Some Jews are increasingly considering emigration — the French emigration rate to Israel is up 60% — and many others are attempting to conceal their religious identity.
As I have written in some detail, things are quite different in Italy [1], where big pro-Israel demonstrations are common, kosher restaurants, especially in Rome (the biggest Italian Jewish community at around 15,000), are very popular, the old Jewish quarter around the synagogue has become trendy and pricy, and Jewish festivals abound. There is even a trend, especially and unexpectedly in the south, towards conversion to Judaism. The chief rabbi of Naples recently wrote to the governors of the six southern provinces, proposing an annual day of commemoration of the forced conversion of the southern Italian Jews during the Inquisition, and some of the governors are likely to embrace the proposal.
Why the striking contrast between France and Italy? Why are the French Jews so frightened, while the Italians are doing so well? There are many differences, some historic, others linked to the contemporary behavior of the Jewish communities. I think the lessons from the Italian Jewish revival should be taken to heart by Jewish communities elsewhere, including the United States.
First, the very different national traditions. Keep in mind that France has the largest Jewish community in Europe, while Italy’s is one of the tiniest.
Most people think “Germany” when they think about European antisemitism, but modern mass antisemitism was a late 19th century French invention that subsequently spread to other Western countries. Its infamous early appearance was the Dreyfus Affair, when a Jewish military officer was falsely accused and then convicted of treason. Theodor Herzl attended the trial, concluding that Jews would never be welcome in Europe, and needed their own state. Thus was Zionism born.
