Rocket Fired From Gaza Strip Hits Southern Israel, Officials Report

By Batsheva Sobelman, Jun. 6, 2015, Latimes.com

Rocket fired from the Gaza strip struck southern Israel Saturday, according to Israel's military.

The rocket landed in an open area near Ashkelon, a city about 10 miles from the border with Gaza, police and army officials said.

It was the third such incident in two weeks, raising concerns on both sides of the border of renewed escalation less than a year after Israel and Hamas fought a deadly summer war in which more than 2,100 Palestinians and 72 Israelis were killed.

The renewed rocket fire poses a challenge to Israel, which has repeatedly vowed zero tolerance and a swift response. It also tests the Hamas rulers of the Gaza strip, locked in a power struggle with local militant Islamic State sympathizers who have claimed responsibility for two of the recent incidents.

Israel holds Hamas responsible for any fire originating from Gaza and has typically responded with air strikes against Hamas facilities, which are usually evacuated in advance.

The Third Intifada Is About The Post Two-State Future

Joel B. Pollak, Nov. 18, 2014, Breitbart

The two-state solution is, effectively, dead. It was mortally wounded long before today's terror attack on a Jerusalem synagogue, which marks a third intifada. The final straw came with the Gaza war this past summer, when Hamas rockets and tunnels showed why it would be insane to let Palestinians to rule more than a portion of the West Bank. The Obama administration's addiction to pressuring Israel has also destabilized diplomacy.

Jimmy Carter Pushes US To Recognize Hamas, Slams Israel

By Fox News, Aug. 5, 2014, Foxnews.com

Former President Jimmy Carter once again is getting way out in front of the U.S. government on the Middle East, co-authoring an op-ed in which he calls for Washington to recognize designated terror group Hamas as a legitimate "political actor" -- while blasting Israel for its military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

The scathing column on ForeignPolicy.com was written by Carter and Ireland's former president Mary Robinson.

The article called the current conflict a "humanitarian catastrophe," and while acknowledging Hamas' "indiscriminate targeting" of Israelis, focused its criticism on Israel.

"There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war," they wrote. "Israeli bombs, missiles, and artillery have pulverized large parts of Gaza, including thousands of homes, schools, and hospitals."

They said "deliberate attacks on civilians" constitute "war crimes" on both sides, though noting far fewer Israelis have been killed in the fighting.

Exclusive: Hamas Rocket Launch Pad Revealed Near Gaza Homes

Source:  www.france24.com
By Gallagher Fenwick, Aug. 26, 2014, France24.com

FRANCE 24 has exclusive footage of a Hamas rocket launching pad that appears to prove the militant group has been firing from areas heavily populated with civilians.

Correspondent Gallagher Fenwick says the site, in Gaza City, is some 50 metres from a hotel where the majority of international media is staying, and just 100 metres from a UN building.

"This type of setup is at the heart of the debate," says Gallagher. "The Israeli army has repeatedly accused the Palestinian militants of shooting from within densely populated civilian areas and that is precisely the type of setup we have here.”

The launching pad is also where the FRANCE 24 team had a close call last week. During a live cross to the Paris studio, a rocket was fired overhead, forcing Gallagher and his crew to take cover.

Israel Can Thank Hillary For Hamas Terror Tunnels

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Source:  www.hlntv.com
By Investors Business Daily Editorials, Aug. 4, 2014, News.investors.com

Mideast: Finally, the president has scolded Hamas for using its tunnels to attack Israel. But he should also fault his former secretary of state. It was Hillary Clinton who aided their construction.

Rewind to 2012.

Then, as now, Hamas terrorists in Gaza were raining rockets on Israeli towns. Eight days of cross-border fighting claimed 166 Palestinian and six Israeli lives.

Just 48 hours before Israeli troops planned to invade Gaza, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton brokered a cease-fire. She flew to the region and met with Israeli and Palestinian leaders and announced a peace deal from Cairo.

The cease-fire held, and Washington headlines trumpeted the exiting secretary's parting feat.

"Hillary Clinton scores Gaza cease-fire success," Politico.com said.

"Clinton got a Gaza cease-fire right at the moment hope seemed dead for a rapid end to the violence — and next time, President Obama will probably have to do it without her," the news site gushed.

Only, the cease-fire didn't really hold.

That's because the deal Clinton brokered required Israel to ease its blockade of building materials and other dual-use goods bound for Gaza, which is ruled by the terrorist group Hamas.

Israel had banned construction goods because Hamas used them to build an underground network of weapons depots, bunkers and rocket-launching pads.

But Clinton naively believed Hamas leaders' pledge that such supplies would go to bridges, hospitals and schools. And so the successful five-year Israeli blockade was lifted.

Sunday’s “Appalling” “Horrifying” “Indefensible” Gaza School Attack Now Appears To Be Staged

By Pamela Geller, Aug. 5, 2014, Dcclothesline.com

Obama called it “indefensible.” His administration was “appalled” and called it “horrifying.” What is more appalling, horrifying and indefensible than denouncing Israel on the world stage without the facts.

If Obama and his jihad administration doesn’t publicly apologize to Israel, it will be “appalling” “horrifying” and “indefensible.”

“Sunday’s Gaza school attack now appears to be staged,” (thanks toJihadwatch)

“The account promoted by Hamas and repeated by the United States and the U.N. on Sunday was that an Israeli mortar hit a U.N. school, killing 10 people, including children. However, evidence is emerging that the Israeli strike hit outside of the school and the bodies were moved into the courtyard to make it look like Israel hit the school.” Will Obama apologize to Israel? Will the UN? Don’t hold your breath.

“Sunday’s Gaza School Attack Now Appears To Be Staged,” by Jeff Dunetz, Truth Revolt, August 4, 2014:

Top Secret Hamas Command Bunker In Gaza Revealed

Source:  www.wnd.com
By Staff Notes, Jul. 29, 2014, Tabletmag.com

The idea that one of Hamas’ main command bunkers is located beneath Shifa Hospital in Gaza City is one of the worst-kept secrets of the Gaza war. So why aren’t reporters in Gaza ferreting it out? The precise location of a large underground bunker equipped with sophisticated communications equipment and housing some part of the leadership of a major terrorist organization beneath a major hospital would seem to qualify as a world-class scoop—the kind that might merit a Pulitzer, or at least a Polk.

So why isn’t the fact that Hamas uses Shifa Hospital as a command post making headlines? In part, it’s because the location is so un-secret that Hamas regularly meets with reporters there. On July 15, for example, William Booth of the Washington Post wrote that the hospital “has become a de facto headquarters for Hamas leaders, who can be seen in the hallways and offices.” Back in 2006, PBS even aired a documentary showing how gunmen roam the halls of the hospital, intimidate the staff, and deny them access to protected locations within the building—where the camera crew was obviously prohibited from filming. Yet the confirmation that Hamas is using Gaza City’s biggest hospital as its de facto headquarters was made in the last sentence of the eighth paragraph of Booth’s story—which would appear to be the kind of rookie mistake that is known in journalistic parlance as “burying the lede.”

But Booth is no rookie—he’s an experienced foreign reporter, which means that he buried the lede on purpose. Why? Well, one reason might be that the “security sources” quoted whenever the location of the Hamas command bunker is mentioned—which, as evidenced by this 2009 article by the excellent and highly experienced foreign correspondent Steven Erlanger of the New York Times, happens every time there’s a war in Gaza—are obviously Israelis, not members of Hamas. It might be hard to believe the Israelis, the simple logic might run, since they obviously have an investment in arguing that Hamas is using hospitals and schools as human shields.

Rising Tide Of Anti-Semitism In Britain As Jews Face Backlash Over Bloodshed In Gaza

Credit:  EPA
By Chris Greenwood, Jul. 27, 2014, Dailymail.co.uk

Jewish people in Britain are enduring a backlash of attacks, bomb threats and anti-semitic insults fuelled by the bloodshed in Gaza.

More than 100 hate crimes have been recorded by police and community groups this month, more than double the usual number.

Community safety groups fear the total could be the second highest ever recorded, after an explosion of violence during the 2009 Gaza war.

In several disturbing cases attackers have invoked the Holocaust and even shouted: ‘Heil Hitler’ at victims.

A rabbi was attacked by four Muslim teenagers outside a Jewish boarding school in Gateshead in one of the most serious incidents.

In Belfast, bricks were thrown at the city’s only synagogue, smashing windows on two consecutive nights.

Groups of Asian men chanted 'Heil Hitler’ as they drove through a Jewish area of Manchester, throwing missiles at passers-by.

In north London, one pro-Israel organisation received a telephone bomb threat and a Jewish boy riding a bicycle had a stone thrown at his head by a woman in a niqab.

NYTimes: Even Gaza Truce Is Hard to Win, Kerry Is Finding

Source:  AP / ABC Action News
By Michael R. Gordon, Jul. 28, 2014, Nytimes.com

WASHINGTON — After failing to win a deal to end fighting in Gaza last week, Secretary of State John Kerry is trying to salvage Plan B: a succession of temporary cease-fires that he hopes might yet open the door to Israeli and Palestinian negotiations for a long-term solution.

On Sunday, however, Mr. Kerry was having difficulty accomplishing even that, despite a phone call in which President Obama, in a sign of mounting impatience, urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israelto embrace an “immediate, unconditional humanitarian cease-fire” while the two sides pursued a more lasting agreement.

Part of the reason the diplomatic effort has faced such an uphill struggle is far-reaching changes on both sides since the last Gaza cease-fire in 2012. Israel and Hamas seem to be dug in this time, with Israeli officials appearing dismissive of Mr. Kerry’s push for a weeklong cease-fire in a way that few American secretaries of state have faced.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest / AP
By Patrick Goodenough, Jul. 14, 2014, CNSNews.com

(CNSNews.com) – White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday the Obama administration’s foreign policies in a number of areas have enhanced the world’s “tranquility” – a word that raised eyebrows as reporters pointed to situations in Gaza, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine and the South China Sea.

More than one reporter during Monday’s press briefing referred to a front-page Wall Street Journalarticle highlighting some of those crises, and citing security strategists as saying “the breadth of global instability now unfolding hasn’t been seen since the late 1970s.”

“How does the White House react to the notion that the president is a bystander to all these crises?” asked Fox News’ Ed Henry, citing the widening gaps between the sides in the Iranian nuclear talks, the conflict in and around Gaza, and the Syrian civil war.

“I think that there have been a number of situations in which you’ve seen this administration intervene in a meaningful way, that has substantially furthered American interests and substantially improved the, uh, you know, the – the tranquility of the global community,” Earnest replied.
