How ISIS Makes Money From The Art Market

By Abigail R. Esman, July 27, 2015 IPT News

Imagine: you are window-shopping on a quiet street, perhaps in London or Paris or New York. Something remarkable catches your eye: an ancient coin, a gold chain, a tiny figurine. Impulsively, you enter the shop, where the owner explains to you that the sculpture comes originally from Mesopotamia, that the necklace is Byzantine. It isn't inexpensive, but the shopkeeper has guaranteed its provenance and the price seems fair; and besides, you quite love it. You say yes, and leave the shop with your new treasure tucked safely in a bag.

You may have just handed your money over to the Islamic State.

UK Counterterrorism Police Arrest 2 More Men In London

By ABC News, Sept. 26, 2014, Abcnews.com

Police in London arrested two more men today as part of ongoing investigations into "Islamist related terrorism."

The two men are in addition to nine others arrested Thursday, the city's Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement.

All but one of the men are accused of being members of a banned group and encouraging terrorism. That eleventh man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, police said.

Anjem Choudary, a former leader of a banned radical group called al-Muhajiroun, was among the nine arrested Thursday, reported British media, but that wasn't confirmed by police.

Several homes and businesses in London were also being searched as part of the investigations, police said.

The statement issued today reiterated that the arrests and searches "are not in response to any immediate public safety risk."

Muhammad, Mohammad, Mohammed--Most Popular London Name

By Andre Walker, Aug. 15, 2014, Breitbart.com

As exclusively reported by Breitbart London last week, Muhammed has been crowned Britain's most popular boys name in figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) today. The name of the Muslim prophet beat Oliver as the most popular boys name chosen by parents in Britain in 2013.

As a result of the way the statistics are put together, the name does not appear to have won, as the ONS classifies each of the different spellings as a different entry on the list. This means that "Muhammad" came in 15th with 3,499 children but "Mohammed" was 23rd with 2,887 and "Mohammad" was 57th with 1059 given the name.

As a result the top three spellings alone accounted for the names of 7,445 boys, easily beating the second most popular name Oliver which got just 6,949. Also the statistics are only published for the top 100 names, so the even more obscure spellings of Mohammed are likely to push the total even higher.

Gaza: Boycott Israel Threats Mount--BDS Calls For Russian Style Sanctions

By Finbarr Bermingham, Aug. 7, 2014, Ibtimes.co.uk

The Chairman of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has urged the UK government to slap sanctions as scything as those being imposed on Russia against the Israeli state.

In an interview with IBTimes UK, Hugh Lanning said the tide of public and governmental opinion has turned against Israel and that BDS, the global lobby group campaigning to penalise Israel for its occupation of the Palestinian Territories, has enjoyed unprecedented support in recent weeks.

"In the past all the mainstream parties wouldn't countenance any discussions. The Labour Party of which I'm a member was very keen to not be associated with anything that said boycott. The glass ceiling has been broken with talk of the arms embargo and military trade.

"We get the feeling that people are anxious. Individuals who have been outraged by what they've seen want ways in which they can individually protest. Boycott actions are being seen as a way the person in the street can say: out with that," he said.

The groundswell of public opinion against Israel can be seen in countless examples of anti-Israel activity across the UK. Today it was reported that Buycott, an app that allows consumers to search for products linked to countries or companies, has gathered 350,000 supporters for two anti-Israel campaigns.

Rising Tide Of Anti-Semitism In Britain As Jews Face Backlash Over Bloodshed In Gaza

Credit:  EPA
By Chris Greenwood, Jul. 27, 2014, Dailymail.co.uk

Jewish people in Britain are enduring a backlash of attacks, bomb threats and anti-semitic insults fuelled by the bloodshed in Gaza.

More than 100 hate crimes have been recorded by police and community groups this month, more than double the usual number.

Community safety groups fear the total could be the second highest ever recorded, after an explosion of violence during the 2009 Gaza war.

In several disturbing cases attackers have invoked the Holocaust and even shouted: ‘Heil Hitler’ at victims.

A rabbi was attacked by four Muslim teenagers outside a Jewish boarding school in Gateshead in one of the most serious incidents.

In Belfast, bricks were thrown at the city’s only synagogue, smashing windows on two consecutive nights.

Groups of Asian men chanted 'Heil Hitler’ as they drove through a Jewish area of Manchester, throwing missiles at passers-by.

In north London, one pro-Israel organisation received a telephone bomb threat and a Jewish boy riding a bicycle had a stone thrown at his head by a woman in a niqab.

Tens Of Thousands Rally In London Against Israel

By Spencer Ho, Jul. 19, 2014, Timesofisrael.com

Tens of thousands protested in London Saturday afternoon against Israel’s military operations in Gaza, denouncing Israel as a terrorist state and castigating British Prime Minister David Cameron for backing Israel’s right to self-defense against Hamas rocket fire.

Led by speakers on a podium, protesters holding placards and banners chanted pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel slogans.

At one point, a woman on the podium shouted “from the river to the sea” — a call for the elimination of Israel — and protesters responded by yelling “Palestine will be free.”

The crowd also directed shouts of “Shame on you” at Cameron, who publicly backed Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas rocket fire aimed at the Israeli civilian population.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which organized the demonstration, said that since the protest began at 12 p.m. (GMT), tens of thousands of people had gathered, more than the 20,000 anticipated. The demonstration began outside Downing Street and was to march to the Israeli embassy.
