Republican National Committee Launching Ohio Campaign Aimed At Black Voters

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Republican National Committee is expected later today to launch a four-week Ohio campaign that will focus on outreach to and mobilization of black voters in advance of the November 2016 presidential election.

The campaign, called "#CommittedToCommunity: Engage, Empower, Uplift," includes a partnership with Radio One/TV One, which caters to a black and urban audience. It will begin today with faith-based outreach in Columbus and will end Aug. 6, the date of the first GOP presidential primary debate, which will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Protest And Arrests Continue After Cop's Acquittal

Largely peaceful demonstrations following the acquittal of a Cleveland police officer in the killing of an unarmed couple continued this evening, as some groups of people turned more rowdy and police said there were multiple arrests.

A spokesman for the mayor's office said it was not clear how many of the arrests were directly related to the protests and how many were people "being a nuisance."

"We are trying to sort that out," said Dan Williams, a spokesman for Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.

Michael Brelo was acquitted of voluntary manslaughter and a lesser charge of felonious assault in the shooting deaths of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams. He was visibly emotional as Cuyahoga County Judge John O'Donnell read a portion of his verdict in open court.

Two Officers Wounded In Police-Involved Shooting On Cleveland’s East Side

Two police officers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries from Redell Avenue in Cleveland Wednesday night, according to EMS. Both officers are expected to be okay.

The other officer’s injuries were also not from a gunshot.

Officer Who Killed Tamir Rice Found Unfit in Previous Police Job

The Cleveland police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice last month resigned from a previous small-town police job when he was deemed emotionally unstable and unfit for duty, especially in his handling of firearms.

Video released by the Cleveland police showed Officer Timothy A. Loehmann, 26, shooting Tamir immediately upon leaving his police car on Nov. 22. Investigators said Tamir was reaching into his waistband for a weapon — which turned out to be a toy pellet gun.

Cleveland Releases Video Of Police Shooting Of A 12 Year Old Boy

Cleveland officials on Wednesday released a video of the fatal police shooting of a 12-year-old boy that shows him pointing a pellet gun around a park before police arrive and shoot him within two seconds.

Tamir E. Rice was shot by a patrol officer on Saturday after a 911 call reported someone pointing a gun at people at the Cudell Recreation Center. The caller said the gun could be a fake.

It's Cleveland! City Chosen To Host 2016 GOP Convention --Vip swing state

Cleveland has been chosen to host the 2016 GOP presidential nominating convention, beating out Dallas in a unanimous vote from the Republican National Committee site selection panel Tuesday.

The choice would be ideal for the GOP national leadership, putting the event in the swing state of Ohio, which has been critical to the Electoral College hopes of both parties in recent presidential elections.

The site selection committee recommended two dates for the convention, either June 27 or July 18. A final date is to be picked before the RNC meets for its annual meeting in August, the sources said. RNC chairman Reince Priebus has been pushing for a date in June.

That would put the convention two months ahead of previous conventions, giving the GOP nominee more time and money to fight off the attacks of Democrats.

Previously, Kansas City had been the only site that could host in June that also wasn’t unencumbered by sports teams’ conflicts of schedule. But Kansas City’s bid was hurt by a shortage of hotel rooms for the tens of thousands of delegates, officials and press expected to attend the national convention.

Dallas had been the last competitor to Cleveland but hadn’t been able to come up with the $50 million required for consideration. Cleveland was said to be “way ahead [in] financial pledges toward that $50 million.

Michelle Knight Tells Dr Phil That Ariel Castro Would Leave Her Bound With Extension Cords And Hanging For Days

 Cleveland kidnapping victim Michelle Knight was strung up with orange extension chords by her neck and feet 'like a fish' for days without food or water during her 11 years in captivity, it emerged today.

 She made the revelations to Dr. Phil McGraw in an exclusive interview which will offer the first glimpse into life inside the 'House of Horrors' at the hands of Ariel Castro.

 Speaking of the unimaginable abuse she suffered, Michelle describes becoming Castro's prisoner: '[He used] one of those orange extension cords. I was tied up like a fish, an ornament on the wall. That's the only way I can describe it.

 'I was hanging like this by my feet and i was tied by my neck and my arms with the extension cord going like that.'

 In the interview, which will be aired on Tuesday and Wednesday night, she tells Dr. Phil that she would be left strung up like that for days, with no food or water. No way to go to the toilet.

Speaking ahead of the broadcast, Dr. Phil said: 'When you listen to her describe the horrible
living conditions and how she was treated, you wonder how anyone lasted a day let alone more than a decade.'

 The only thing that gave her hope throughout her time in captivity was her two-year-old son.

 'I'm fighting to stay alive for him,' she said in the excerpt, aired on the Today Show this morning.

 Michelle will be the first of Castro's three victims to publicly speak out at length about the horrors the women had to endure for more than a decade in the ramshackle Cleveland home before being rescued.

 Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus escaped on May 6 when Berry pushed out a door and yelled for help.

 Their kidnapper, Ariel Castro, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison. He hanged himself on September 3, just weeks into his sentence.

 During the exclusive interview with Dr. Phil viewers will hear in great details about the antics and torture that occurred Castro's Cleveland house of horrors.
