Son Of Boston Police Captain Arrested As Possible Terrorist

The estranged son of a respected Boston police captain was arrested July 4 by FBI agents as part of a counter-terrorism operation against alleged ISIS-inspired domestic terrorists, federal officials told ABC News today.

Alexander Ciccolo, 23, of Adams, Mass., was taken into custody on gun charges after buying two pistols and two rifles from an undercover FBI confidential informant, federal officials said. In a search of his apartment, officials reported they found it loaded with possible bomb-making equipment including a pressure cooker, a variety of chemicals, an alarm clock, along with “attack planning papers” and “jihad” paperwork. FBI agents said he used the name Abu Ali al-Amriki and neighbors said he was a recent convert to Islam.

“This is a very bad person arrested before he could do very bad things,” one senior federal official briefed on the arrest told ABC News.

Officials with the city of Barstow, California insisted this week that officers had acted properly when they used force to arrest a pregnant woman who refused to show them her identification, even though the charges were later dismissed.

In police body camera video obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Southern California (ACLU SoCal), an officer is responding to an apparent traffic dispute between Charlena Michelle Cooks, who is 8 months pregnant and black, and an unidentified white woman.

The officer first talks to the white woman, who accuses Cooks of acting “all crazy.”

“I don’t see a crime that has been committed,” the officer admits after examining the woman’s car. After promising the woman a police report, the officer heads over to talk to Cooks.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Flavor Flav was arrested in Las Vegas early Thursday on allegations of driving under the influence, speeding, possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and having an open container of alcohol in the 2005 black BMW he was driving, authorities said.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Loy Hixson said the 56-year-old entertainer was pulled over around 12:30 a.m. for going 73 mph in a 45 mph zone as he enteredInterstate 15 southwest of McCarran International Airport.

Flavor Flav also had a suspended driver's license and registration, Hixson said. He was arrested on six charges, all misdemeanors. Online jail records indicated that he posted bail.

Flavor Flav's legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr.

His Las Vegas attorney, Kristina Wildeveld, said she had no comment to offer regarding her client's Las Vegas arrest, but she said he's working to resolve an ongoing case in New York that also involves driving-related charges.

A Monday morning arrest on assault and solicitation of prostitution charges has cost Warren Sapp his analyst’s role with the NFL’s television channel.

NFL Network announced this afternoon it has ended Sapp’s employment.

“Warren Sapp’s contract has been terminated and he no longer works for NFL Network,” NFLN spokesperson Alex Riethmiller said in a statement released by the channel.

The 42-year-old Sapp had worked for the network since 2008.

With Sapp’s time with the network at a close, it remains to be seen if Sapp will be able to land a television role elsewhere.

Britain’s most notorious Islamist hate preacher was arrested yesterday in a huge police operation.

Anjem Choudary, 47, was one of nine men held in a series of co-ordinated dawn raids by counter-terrorist police.

The show of force targeted the leadership of radical organisation Al-Muhajiroun, which he founded almost 20 years ago, and was later banned.

The arrests came on the eve of the first British air strikes on Islamic extremists waging war in Iraq and Syria.

Many of those held across London yesterday have been vocal cheerleaders of the bloodshed in the Middle East.

Actress Danièle Watts was wrongfully detained under the suspicion that she was a prostituteafter being affectionate with her husband in Studio City, California.

Many will remember Danièle Watts from her role as "Coco" in Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' or her current role as Martin Lawrence's daughter in 'Partners.'

Watts was dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes when she was approached by police who believed her to be a prostitute. When she refused to show the ID, she then handcuffed by multiple officers and detained.

She told the entire story on her Facebook page:
Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place. 
When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away. 
A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different policeofficers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs. 
As I was sitting in the back of the police car, I remembered the countless times my father came home frustrated or humiliated by the cops when he had done nothing wrong. I felt his shame, his anger, and my own feelings of frustration for existing in a world where I have allowed myself to believe that “authority figures” could control my BEING… my ability to BE!!!!!!!

A statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department defended the mistaken identity arrest of a black film producer, who posted about his experience on Facebook, accusing the police of racial profiling.

“Within minutes of the robbery call being broadcast, police detained a subject less than a block away from the robbery who closely matched the clothing and physical characteristics of the male suspect," the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement. "After an eyewitness positively identified the subject in a field show-up, police arrested Charles Belk for suspicion of robbery,” the statement said. Belk is a tall, bald African-American man.

The department also issued an apology to Charles Belk, who said that he was detained for hours before being released.

“The Beverly Hills Police Department deeply regrets the inconvenience to Mr. Belk and has reached out to him to express those regrets and further explain the circumstances,” the police statement said. A spokesman said the incident will be recorded as a detention, not an arrest.

Belk's original post has been shared more than 38,000 times.

“I get that the Beverly Hills Police Department didn't know at the time that I was a law abiding citizen of the community and that in my 51 years of existence, had never been handcuffed or arrested for any reason. All they saw, was someone fitting the description. Doesn't matter if he's a "Taye Diggs BLACK", a "LL Cool J BLACK", or "a Drake BLACK"

LUBBOCK, Texas—An illegal immigrant who was released by U.S. authorities with a Notice to Appear has been arrested for the alleged murder of a woman and kidnapping of children on U.S. soil. The alleged crimes occurred after the man was released.

The man, Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas, entered the U.S. illegally with children and turned himself in to U.S. Border Patrol agents. He was processed and released, as are all illegal immigrants who come as unaccompanied minors or incomplete family units from Central America. The alien is from Honduras.

The arrest was first reported by the Associated Press (AP), but Breitbart Texas has exclusively confirmed that the man was part of the Obama Administration’s catch and release policy for family groups from Central America.

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Fort Lauderdale police believe hundreds of young people made their way to the beach for one reason this Memorial Day, to cause trouble.

Police described a volatile scene Monday night as they had to arrest dozens of people that were part of unruly crowds.

Two separate incidents late Monday afternoon kept officers busy. One scene was near the area of 31st Avenue and West Broward Boulevard.

The other was near the beach close to A1A.

Police said around 5 o’clock in the afternoon, hundreds of young people made their way to the beach for one reason this Memorial Day, to cause trouble.

Fort Lauderdale Police were in riot gear as a large crowd of young people moved through A1A reportedly causing mayhem.

“We had several reports of individuals who were reaching into vehicles, striking drivers. We have reports individuals who were jumping on top of taxicabs,” said Detective Deanna Greenlaw with Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

Fort Lauderdale Police officials said a group of young people came to the beach to fight and when police quickly broke it up, they scattered through the streets.

“This was something that was planned through these individuals and they were coming to Fort Lauderdale Beach Park for this purpose, to cause a problem,” added Greenlaw.

'Happy' Video Arrests Highlight Tensions In Iran --Latest on religion of peace

 TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - An Internet video (no audio) of six young Iranian men and women dancing to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" has led to their arrests, showing how far Tehran will go to halt what it deems to be decadent Western behavior - despite the views of its moderate president.

 Criticism outside Iran was predictably swift Wednesday, with calls for freedom for the jailed youths zipping around social media. Williams tweeted: "It's beyond sad these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness."

 A tweet posted Wednesday evening on President Hassan Rouhani's account seemed to address the controversy, even if it stopped short of mentioning the video or the arrests directly.

 "#Happiness is our people's right," it said. "We shouldn't be too hard on behaviors caused by joy."

 The widely followed account appears to reflect Rouhani's positions. Iranian media in the past quoted Rouhani as saying the account is authentic. At the same time, a senior Rouhani adviser said last year that the president had such an account only during the presidential campaign and that Rouhani's views are represented by his official website.

 Other social media posts suggested at least some of the dancers had already been released, although there was no independent confirmation from authorities.

 The case was another reminder of the tensions that exist at the highest levels of Iranian power, with hard-liners determined to maintain the status quo while moderates try to push through change - be it improved relations with the West or a loosening of morality clampdowns at home.

 Hard-liners are increasingly challenging Rouhani as the country negotiates a nuclear deal with world powers. The president campaigned for greater cultural and social freedoms in his bid to succeeded Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last year.

 As recently as Saturday, he articulated a moderate stance about the Internet, which remains tightly regulated by Iranian authorities.

 Sites such as YouTube and Facebook are blocked by censors, though many young and Web-savvy Iranians use proxy servers or other workarounds to bypass the controls.

 "We should see the cyberworld as an opportunity," said Rouhani, according to the official IRNA news agency. "Why are we so shaky? Why don't we trust our youth?"

 Hard-liners accuse Rouhani of failing to stop the spread of what they deem "decadent" Western culture in Iran. Last week, hard-liners marched over women not wearing hijabs and dressing provocatively.

 While Rouhani pursues a policy of social and cultural openness, hard-liners say the government should be tough to those who challenge interpretations of Islamic norms. They accuse Rouhani of showing leniency and too much tolerance toward those who question Islamic sanctities or women who are not sufficiently veiled.
