The owner says D.C. police investigated but handed the case over to Homeland Security, which deemed the threats not credible.

Verizon says the calls are traceable but it needs police to ask it to take action.

The business owner says the detectives tell him they must hear from Verizon first.

Sheriffs Plan Massive Gathering in Washington To Oppose Executive Amnesty

Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson of Bristol County, Mass., sent a letter to organize a meeting of sheriffs in Washington, D.C., on December 10, two days before the existing government-funding bill expires, to meet with congressmen and encourage them to take action to secure the border.

“Never before in our nation’s history has it been so important for the American sheriffs to stand united and speak with one voice to secure our nation’s borders,” Hodgson wrote. “Senator Jeff Sessions, Senator David Vitter and other members of Congress have agreed to join us at the Capitol to demand immediate action to secure our borders as the first step in achieving legitimate immigration reform in the future. Several sheriffs have agreed to work in a spirit of cooperation to assist in recruiting at least 200 sheriffs to travel to Washington, D.C. for this historic meeting and press conference with members of Congress.”

D.C.-Area Hospital Admitted A Patient With Symptoms

A Washington-area hospital announced Friday that it had admitted a patient with symptoms and a travel history associated with Ebola. The case has not been confirmed, but the number of similar incidents around the country and a confirmed Ebola patient in Dallas have spurred concerns about whether U.S. hospitals are as prepared to deal with the virus as federal officials insist they are.

Since July, hospitals around the country have reported more than 100 cases involving Ebola-like symptoms to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, officials there said. Only one patient so far — Thomas Duncan in Dallas — has been diagnosed with Ebola.

But in addition to lapses at the Dallas hospital where Duncan is being treated, officials say they are fielding inquiries from hospitals and health workers that make it clear that serious questions remain about how to properly and safely care for potential Ebola patients.

A CDC official said the agency realized that many hospitals remain confused and unsure about how they are supposed to react when a suspected patient shows up. The agency sent additional guidance to health-care facilities around the country this week, just as it has numerous times in recent months, on everything from training personnel to spot the symptoms of Ebola to using protective gear.

Washington D.C. City Council Passes Concealed-Carry Gun Law

(Reuters) - The Washington city council passed emergency gun legislation on Tuesday requiring residents and visitors to adhere to strict guidelines to carry a concealed weapon in the U.S. capital.

The move came after a federal judge in July overturned the District of Columbia's ban on carrying handguns outside the home, saying it was unconstitutional. The judge's order was under a temporary stay, giving the city time to fashion a new law.

"It's a situation where we don't really want to do this, but we have to," Councilman Marion Barry said before the vote.

The new law requires residents to get a concealed-carry permit, complete 16 hour of firearms training and be at least 21 years old. Those with a history of mental illness within the last five years will be ineligible.

Non-residents can carry guns in the District of Columbia if they register their weapon with the city and adhere to the same guidelines required of residents.

Even with a permit, the law forbids carrying guns into bars, public buildings, schools or on public transit. The final decision on issuing a permit rests with the police chief, with appeals sent to a review board.
