‘The View’ May Cut Rosie Perez, Nicolle Wallace in Latest Revamp (EXCLUSIVE)
ABC executives are finalizing a plan to reboot “The View” next fall, for the second consecutive year, with a flurry of changes that could include the departure of at least one of its regular hosts, Varietyhas learned.
While moderator Whoopi Goldberg will remain as the face of the struggling daytime talker, the future of two of her co-hosts, Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez, is in doubt. One or both women could be dropped because network execs are underwhelmed with their contributions to the show’s signature Hot Topics segment, which is expected to shift focus permanently toward more lighthearted celebrity fluff.
The changes come as instability behind-the-scenes at the show continues, say insiders, which probably isn’t what Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood was hoping for when heshifted oversight of the program from ABC’s daytime division to its ABC News unit as part of a previous reboot effort that brought in Wallace and Perez last September.

ABC News Takes Over 'The View' As Ratings Dwindle
For 18 seasons, “The View” has been one of the crown jewels of ABC Daytime programming block. But in a significant restructuring that could foreshadow the management style of incoming presidentBen Sherwood, ABC’s daytime executives are losing oversight of the show, Variety has learned.
Starting today, “The View” will be part of the non-fiction branch of programming within ABC News, which produces the documentary series “NY Med.” The talk show will now be in the growing portfolio of ABC News president James Goldston, Sherwood’s right-hand man who helped revamp “Good Morning America.”
“Moving ‘The View’ to our non-fiction programming group now allows it to fully draw on the vast resources of ABC News and our team in New York, where the show is based right next door,” Goldston says in a memo Variety obtained from the network that will circulate to staffers on Thursday morning. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with this terrific team.”
One of his central goals, according to insiders, is to make “The View” more appealing to younger viewers. The show has fallen 10 percent in the last year among female viewers between the ages 18 to 49, but it’s up 1 percent in total viewers.

Whoopi Defends Stephen A Smith’s Comments: 'If You Hit a Man, Don’t Be Surprised if He Hits Back'

Whoopi Goldberg is quickly becoming an advocate for men who inflict domestic violence upon women. You may recall back in May, during the Solange Knowles-and-Jay Z elevator fight, that Goldberg said Jay Z had every right to hit Solange back.
“I think Solange was quite ready for him to do whatever he was going to do,” Goldberg said. “This is the thing: If anybody hits you, you have the right—I know that many people are raised in a very different way—but if a woman hits you, to me, you have the right to hit her back.”
Now Goldberg is singing the same song, but to the tune of a different celebrity caught up in his own domestic violence comments.
Last Friday, during an episode of ESPN’s First Take, Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless had a heated debate over the Baltimore Ravens’ suspension of Ray Rice for two games. Many people felt the suspension was too lenient, especially since video captured Rice dragging his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, out of an elevator unconscious.
