Obama: Economy's Great!...Except For Women

In Barack Obama’s last weekly address before the November election, he resorted to his usual chicanery, this time with an emphasis on the War on Women. Obama started by claiming that over the past 55 months, “Our businesses have added 10.3 million new jobs.”

1. “Our businesses?” Since when did the creator of the infamous line “You didn’t build that,” have the right to call them “Our businesses?”

2. “Added 10.3 million new jobs?" It is technically true that 10.3 million jobs have been added to the economy since its low ebb in 2009. But as Forbes stated in September:

More than five years into the tepid recovery, labor-force participation remains at its lowest level since 1978. Don’t blame waves of retirement for that fact: the Census Bureau reported that, from 2005 to 2010, older Americans actually became more likely to be employed. The percentage of 65-69 year-olds remaining in the workforce jumped from 26 percent to 32 percent over a ten-year-period ending in 2012. Among those 70-74 the jump was even more startling: from 14 percent to 19.5 percent. Meanwhile workers in the prime of their lives have simply left the playing field.

Manhattan Beach Ca: Parents Pull Son From Class, Accuse School Of 'Teaching Islam'

Parents of a boy enrolled in Manhattan Beach Middle School are pulling their son out of class because the school is teaching children the tenets of Islam, Los Angeles news station KTLA reports. 

The father said, “The audacity of this school, to think that they can sit these children down and teach ’em whatever religion they please; it’s preposterous. This is illegal, basically. You can’t teach religion in schools any more, but apparently, in this particular school, at least, that’s not the case.” 

Parents said they discovered that what their children were learning about Islam was more about the tenets of the faith than the history of the religion, according to KTLA. One question asked the students to write down teachings from the Koran.

Study: Wealth Inequality Inflamed By Slow Recovery --Opposite of what Obama promised

University of Michigan researchers have released a study stating that the disparity between the wealthiest Americans and the rest of the country has grown because of the Great Recession and the slow recovery. According to the study, the top 5% of Americans averaged 24 times as much wealth as the wealth of the median American family in 2013; in 2007 they averaged 16.5 times as much.

The report indicates that the divide between the very wealthy and everyone else is derived from the ability of the 5% to invest in the stock market with their spare cash. The stock market dropped by nearly 50% during the recession but has returned to its level before the recession hit. However, about 10 percent of American households own 80 percent of stocks on the market.

Middle-class Americans, meanwhile, often look to their home equity for their wealth, but home prices have not regained their former status since the recession. In the first three months of 2014, 18.8% of homeowners who had a mortgage owed more on their mortgages than the worth of their homes, according to Zillow. Zillow adds that another 18.1% own so little equity that the equity couldn’t cover closing costs and a down payment on a new home.

Only 64.8% of Americans own homes, as opposed to 69.2% in 2004.

The study asserted that all households lost money during the recession and no group has fully regained what it lost. Still, the top 5% lost 16% of their net worth since 2007, while the median households lost a whopping 43%.
