L.A.'s New Norm: $20 Million Homes And 'People Are Swarming To Get In'

By Alexandra Abramian, Jun. 26, 2015, Hollywood Reporter

Global buyers are driving up prices as 10-figure listings move into neighborhoods no one would expect ("Who the hell would want to live in funkytown?"), privacy is at a premium, and even relatively puny properties (no pool!) prosper.

Five years ago, back in that idyllic era before the stratospheric explosion of the top of the Los Angeles real estate market, $20 million could afford a buyer a legitimate spread in any number of the city's highest-end 'hoods. These days? Not so much.

"With homes going for $50 million behind The Beverly Hills Hotel or $70 million on Hillcrest, what is $20 million anymore?" asks Josh Flagg, real estate agent at Rodeo Realty and star of Bravo'sMillion Dollar Listing. "The bottom line is you can't buy a true estate in Los Angeles for $20 million — by that I mean a home located on an acre of flat land, with the tennis court and all that. Up until the tail end of 2014, you might have been able to. As of now, those days are over."

Bernie Sanders Wows Hollywood Progressives At Two L.A. Fundraisers

By Tina Daunt, Jun. 20, 2015, Hollywood Reporter

After the glitz and glitter of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's fundraising trips to L.A. this week, a cadre of industry super-liberals turned out Saturday to support Sanders.

With the dust still settling after Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s glitzy fundraising trips to Hollywood this week, Clinton’s first official Democratic rival — Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders — slipped quietly into town Saturday for a pair of low-key events that didn’t raise seven-figure sums, but did warm the hearts of two overflowing crowds of Hollywood progressives.

Sanders’ supporters might be called the entertainment industry’s irreconcilables — the left flank of the Hollywood Dems’ most progressive faction, with activists deeply disappointed in Obama, who they supported, and unwilling to sign on to a Clinton presidential campaign. In the former Secretary of State, they see another moderate waiting to happen.

Disney Could Lose $140 Million on 'Tomorrowland' Flop

By Pamela McClintock, Jun. 10, 2015, Hollywood Reporter

If ever there was a studio that could withstand a serious stumble, it's Disney, home of Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. And stumble it has with Tomorrowland, theBrad Bird-directed fantasy adventure. Sources say the film will lose $120 million to $140 million by the time it finishes its global rollout, becoming Disney's first major financial misfire since The Lone Ranger prompted a $190 million write-down two summers ago.

It's also the third big-budget original tentpole of 2015 to bomb after Jupiter Ascending andSeventh Son, highlighting the risky nature of nine-figure filmmaking at a time when relatively lower-budget hits such as Spy and Pitch Perfect 2 are causing studios to look closely at the costs of creating franchises.

'Django Unchained' Actress Ordered to Apologize to Police in Lewd Conduct Case

By Associated Press, May 4, 2015, Hollywood Reporter

An actress who accused Los Angeles police of racial profiling when they investigated a report she was having sex with her boyfriend in a parked car has been ordered to apologize to officers as part of a plea deal.

Daniele Watts, who appeared in Django Unchained, pleaded no contest Monday to disturbing the peace with loudness.

Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan says Watts and her boyfriend, who entered the same plea, were sentenced to 40 hours of community service and must write apology letters to three officers and the occupants of a building near where they were arrested last year.

Street Art Movie Posters Hit Liam Neeson For Gun Control Hypocrisy

By Awr Hawkis, Mar. 13, 2015, Breitbart.com

Fake posters mocking Liam Neeson’s gun control hypocrisy are popping up on bus stops in Los Angeles.

The posters are a play on posters for Neeson’s current film, Run All Night. Those posters feature an image of Neeson pointing a handgun, captioned with the words “Run All Night.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the anonymous individuals behind the new posters changed the words to “Gun All Right” and added a script that says, “One Hypocrite Laughing All the Way to the Bank.”

As Breitbart News reported on September 12, Neeson said he “is totally for gun control in the US.” He said the gun culture in the US is “crazy,” complained about the number of guns in our country, and mocked the “gun lobby” for wanting to arm more law-abiding citizens for self-defense.
