Lois Lerner's IRS Granted Only One Conservative Group Non-Profit Status In Three Years

Lois Lerner’s political beliefs led to tea party and conservative groups receiving disparate and unfair treatment when applying for non-profit status, according to a detailed report compiled by the Senate Finance Committee.

Because of Lerner’s bias, only one conservative political advocacy organization was granted tax exempt status over a period of more than three years:

“Due to the circuitous process implemented by Lerner, only one conservative political advocacy organization was granted tax-exempt status between February 2009 and May 2012. Lerner’s bias against these applicants unquestionably led to these delays, and is particularly evident when compared to the IRS’s treatment of other applications, discussed immediately below.”

Lois Lerner: 'Lincoln Was Our Worst President Not Our Best'

Lois Lerner, the central figure in the IRS targeting controversy, called Abraham Lincoln the country’s worst president in an email disclosed in a bipartisan Senate report, according to USA Today.

“Look my view is that Lincoln was our worst president not our best,” Lerner wrote in an email dated March 6, 2014.

Lerner, the former IRS director of Exempted Organizations, joked in one email that the 16th president should have just let the South secede, rather than fighting the Civil War.
“He should [have] let the south go,” Lerner wrote in response to a friend who disparaged Texas as a “pathetic” state. “We really do seem to have [two] different mind sets.”

The report also highlighted emails written by Lerner calling conservatives “crazies” and “a--holes.”

Bristol Palin was once in Lois Lerner’s sights, according to a newly released Senate report on the IRS executive’s e-mails. The daughter of liberal media hate object Sarah Palin got on Lerner's radar due to her work with Candie’s Foundation - a group that works to reduce teen pregnancy. 

In a newly released e-mail Lerner wrote: “Thoughts on the Bristol Palin issue? I’m asking because I don’t know whether to send to Exam as a referral.”   So far Lerner’s interest in the former Dancing with the Stars contestant has yet to be mentioned on the usually celebrity-obsessed Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) morning and evening shows.

We Now Know Where Lois Lerner's Emails And Backup Tapes Were Destroyed

There have been dozens of questions surrounding the disappearance of emails belonging to former IRS official Lois Lerner, the woman at the center of the IRS targeting scandal. Some of Lerner's emails have been recovered, after IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said under oath they were lost forever. Thousands are still missing. But perhaps the most compelling questions that have been asked since the IRS targeting scandal broke in May 2013 are 1) Exactly where were Lerner's emails and backup tapes destroyed? 2) Who destroyed them?

Now, we have an answer. According to Americans for Tax Reform, Lerner's hard drive was destroyed by the IRS "Midnight Unit" in West Virginia:

House Republicans Demand Update On Lois Lerner Charges

Twenty-four Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday wrote to newly installed Attorney General Loretta Lynch seeking an update on prospects for criminal charges against former Internal Revenue Service Exempt Organizations chief Lois Lerner.

Led by Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., the lawmakers cited the April 9, 2014, Ways and Means referral of Lerner to the Justice Department for prosecution on possible crimes that grew out of the two-year-old controversy over alleged political bias in IRS handling of nonprofits’ applications for tax-exempt status.

The new letter noted that an April 2015 Justice response from since-departed U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen sent to Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, addressed only the contempt of Congress referral the House made after Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment right to remain silent before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
