Perry, who is considering another presidential bid in 2016, said the cost of illegal immigration is “extraordinary.” He said his state spends $12 million a month on securing the border.

Perry remarked that state Attorney General Greg Abbott, who was recently elected governor, has described his current job like this: “I go to the office, I sue Obama and I go home.”

Wary Of Ebola, Dallas Parents Pull Kids From School

DALLAS — The number of possible contacts with the Ebola patient in Dallas has risen to 80, said Zachary Thompson, Dallas County Health and Human Services director Thursday.

He also said a control order has been issued to the family of Thomas Eric Duncan, the man identified by The Associated Press as the victim of the often-fatal virus. Thompson said that means the family members are confined to their apartment and the front and back areas, such as the patio.

Parents rushed to get their children from school Wednesday after learning that five students may have had contact with the Ebola patient in a Dallas hospital, as Gov. Rick Perry and other leaders reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm.

The patient, identified by The Associated Press as Thomas Eric Duncan of Liberia, arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 20 to visit family. Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Zachary Thompson said county officials suspect that 12 to 18 people may have had contact with Duncan.

“Right now, the base number is 18 people, and that could increase,” he said. Thompson said more details are expected by Thursday afternoon. The number includes five students at four schools, Dallas school district Superintendent Mike Miles said.

Texas Governor Rick Perry said a record number of illegal immigrants from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan have been apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border.

On Sunday's State of the Union on CNN, Perry said the "historic record highs" of individuals from "countries that have substantial terrorist ties" threaten America's national security.

Later on the program, Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX), the House Homeland Security Committee Chair, said Iranian terrorists have had plans to sneak across the border. He also said that others who want to do harm are seeking to exploit America's porous border.

Toyota Trades California For No-Tax, Low-Regulation Texas --A no brainer for lot of businesspeople

Anti-Business: Texas Gov. Rick Perry keeps coming back to California to lure companies to the income-tax-free Lone Star State. Apparently he's succeeding.

Toyota Motor Corp. will relocate "substantial parts" of its U.S. headquarters in Torrance, Calif., to suburban Dallas. The impetus for the move: cutting costs. This could lead to as many as 5,000 jobs transplanted from California to Big D, as they call it in Texas. This is the 50th major employer to make the trek to the Lone Star State from California this year alone.

Toyota, the world's largest auto producer, isn't saying so, but no doubt taxes are a big source of the savings from packing up and moving. California has the highest income tax in the country, with a top rate of 13%, compared with zero in Texas. For a company with thousands of workers, many with high salaries, this can mean tens of millions of dollars each and every year in cost savings to Toyota and its employees.

It's not just taxes, but also a regulatory structure in California that treats businesses, especially manufacturers, like enemy combatants. Joseph Vranich, a California-based business relocation adviser, who has long tracked the migration of companies from California, cites more than 250 major firms that left the state since 2011 through last year.

Why? "Today," he said, "California businesses can reduce costs by 20% by moving to many states and up to 45% in some areas." One big cost factor: California's green-energy mandates are driving up electric utility costs to near the highest in the nation.

When Perry was asked why he keeps traveling to California, he recently quipped:

"You fish where the fish are."

Well, he just reeled in another whopper.

 Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who will be arriving in New York this afternoon for a trip trying to lure businesses to the Lone Star State, offered a Texas-sized take-down of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s record on job creation this morning and challenged him to a debate.

 “I’d be more than happy to sit down and have a thoughtful conversation, a debate with Gov. Cuomo over the issues that face us as a state and talk about the economic policies and compare New York to Texas,” said Mr. Perry, speaking on New York Post columnist Fred Dicker’s Live from the State Capitol radio show. “I think that would be not only interesting and fun, but a thoughtful way for us as a country to have a discussion between two of the major states in America, talking about which one of these policies are actually better for our people.”

 Mr. Cuomo has made a point of emphasizing tax cuts and job growth as he runs for re-election, but Mr. Perry quickly brushed aside those efforts. Asked about an ad campaign Mr. Cuomo has been running advertising the state’s new tax-free zones to lure new businesses, Mr. Perry ran through a list of companies that had relocated or expanded into Texas recently, and also pointed to New York’s high net migration rate.

 “There’s a real message there: More wealth left the state of New York and California than any other two states in the nation,” said Mr. Perry. “And you have to be honest about this: It’s about tax policy, it’s about regulatory policy, it’s about the legal system, and then it’s about a skilled workforce.”

 Still the Republican had some kind–if veiled–words for Mr. Cuomo. He pointed to a Tax Foundation tax burden tally that moved New York up two spots from 50th to 48th place this year.
