FOX Sports: NFL Rejects Adrian Peterson's Immediate Reinstatement

The NFL has informed Adrian Peterson that his case will now be reviewed under the league's personal conduct policy, FOX Sports 1 NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports. The league has reportedly asked the Minnesota Vikings running back and his representatives for relevant information on his child abuse case and plea agreement.

Peterson has a right to a hearing before any discipline is levied, Garafolo reports. Until this review process is complete, Peterson will remain on the commissioner's exempt list.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Below is the full text of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s statement, which he released Monday. He has been charged with child abuse for striking his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch.

"My attorney has asked me not to discuss the facts of my pending case. I hope you can respect that request and help me honor it. I very much want the public to hear from me but I understand that it is not appropriate to talk about the facts in detail at this time. Nevertheless, I want everyone to understand how sorry I feel about the hurt I have brought to my child. I never wanted to be a distraction to the Vikings organization, the Minnesota community or to my teammates. I never imagined being in a position where the world is judging my parenting skills or calling me a child abuser because of the discipline I administered to my son.

I voluntarily appeared before the grand jury several weeks ago to answer any and all questions they had. Before my grand jury appearance, I was interviewed by two different police agencies without an attorney. In each of these interviews I have said the same thing, and that is that I never ever intended to harm my son. I will say the same thing once I have my day in court. I have to live with the fact that when I disciplined my son the way I was disciplined as a child, I caused an injury that I never intended or thought would happen. I know that many people disagree with the way I disciplined my child. I also understand after meeting with a psychologist that there are other alternative ways of disciplining a child that may be more appropriate…"

Peterson's Attorney Responds To New Allegations He Injured Another Son

UPDATE: Adrian Peterson's lawyer Rusty Hardin released the following statement:

"The allegation of another investigation into Adrian Peterson is simply not true. This is not a new allegation, it's one that is unsubstantiated and was shopped around to authorities in two states over a year ago and nothing came of it. An adult witness adamantly insists Adrian did nothing inappropriate with his son. There is no ongoing or new investigation."

HOUSTON (KHOU) -- New accusations against Adrian Peterson come from another mother who has another four-year-old son of Peterson, and also involve Peterson striking his boy as a form of discipline.

Peterson's attorney Rusty Hardin responded with the following statement:

Adrian Peterson: Not A Child Abuser, But Sorry About 'Hurt I Have Brought ' To Son

(CNN) -- Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson said Monday that he is "not a perfect parent, but I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser."

Peterson, one of the NFL's marquee players, will practice this week and can play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, despite facing a child abuse charge, team officials said.

Peterson, who was kept out of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, turned himself in to East Texas authorities Saturday, two days after an indictment alleged the 29-year-old father did "recklessly or by criminal negligence cause bodily injury" to his son, a felony.

Peterson quickly posted $15,000 in bail and was released, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

In his first comments on the case, the reinstated NFL star told fans in a written statement posted on his Twitter feed, "I never imagined being in a position where the world is judging my parenting skills or calling me a child abuser because of the discipline I administered to my son."

How Many Kids Does Adrian Peterson Have? At Least 7

As the Adrian Peterson allegations of child abuse mount – the latest one is a year old, and authorities took no action – a popular question has sprung up: Just how many kids does the great Minnesota Vikings running back have?

Good luck finding a firm answer. When asked by ESPN in 2013 how many kids he had, Peterson said, “I know the truth, and I’m comfortable with that knowledge.”

Spoken like somebody who has something to hide.

After Peterson’s 2-year old son – a child he never got to meet – died in 2013, the media began asking questions about Peterson’s off-the-field life, and the results were somewhat surprising.

A dancer at a gentleman’s club in Houston told the NY Post and TMZ that Peterson had fathered seven children – it’s unclear with how many women – but he “dutifully‘ pays child support.

Peterson is 29.

On Sunday’s broadcast of CBS’s “NFL Today,” former NBA great and current TNT basketball announcer Charles Barkley reacted to Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s child abuse allegations by suggesting there are cultural customs in black communities in the South that have made some forms of discipline the norm.

Barkley told CBS’s Jim Rome that if tough standards were applied, that would lead to a lot of black parents potentially being in jail.

Partial transcript as follows:

BARKLEY: I’m from the South, I understand Boomer's rage and anger, but I have – listen we have to accept, he's a white guy, I’m a black guy. I don't know where he's from, I’m from the South. Whipping, we do that all the time. Every black parent in the South is going to be in jail under those circumstances. I think we have to be careful letting people dictate how they treat –

ROME: It doesn't matter where you're from, right is right, and wrong is wrong. It doesn't matter where you're from –

BARKLEY: I don't believe that because listen we spank kids in the South. I think the question about did Adrian Peterson go overboard. But listen Jim we all grew up in different environments. Listen, every black parent in my neighborhood in the South would be in trouble or in jail under those circumstances.

ROME: See my thing is I don't want to tell anybody how to raise their kids and I don't want anybody telling me how to raise my kids. But let's make a distinction between child rearing and child abuse. That was child abuse, there's no fine line here.

4:12 PM PT -- According to the police report, Peterson allegedly sent text messages to the child's mother saying he "felt bad" because he struck the kid in the testicles.

"Got him in the nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I'm all tearing that butt up when needed!" the text said.

Peterson allegedly sent a follow up text saying, "Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has he biggest heart but don't play no games when it comes to acting right."

4:10 PM PT -- According to the police report, the child told authorities he had also been hit by a belt and there were "a lot of belts in daddy's closet."

The child also said AP had put leaves in his mouth when he was being struck and that his pants were down.

3:50 PM PT -- The Vikings have deactivated Peterson for Sunday's game.

3:34 PM PT -- Peterson has issued a statement through his lawyer saying, "The charged conduct involves using a switch to spank his son."

"This indictment follows Adrian's full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgement as a parent to discipline his son."

"He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in East Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened."

"He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours."

"Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury."

3:00 PM PT -- The police report on the case includes photos of cuts on the boy's thigh and hands. He also had bruises on his lower back and buttocks, and according to the report ... Peterson admitted punishing him.
