The two men who were slain by the person they were trying to carjack were shot inside their car as they tried to flee from the vicinity of the Dyer Avenue Deli Grocery in Wakefield about 4:40 a.m. Friday, police sources said.

The victim of an attempted Bronx carjacking went berserk Friday, chasing down the thieves and shooting them dead, cops said.

The 30-year-old man was driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV when he was approached by Jermaine Johnson and Kaiison Lewis outside the Dyer Avenue Deli Grocery in Wakefield about 4:40 a.m., police said.

Johnson and Lewis, who both lived in Mount Vernon, N.Y., tried to steal the SUV at gunpoint, investigators believe. But when their mark fought back, they ran to Johnson’s car, which was parked nearby at Rombouts Ave. and Light St.

That’s when their target pulled his own gun and riddled Johnson’s green Acura TL with bullets, cops said.

  4. It sure beats being a victim. Thank God for concealed carry. It's sad that two young men had to lose their lives but better a couple of crooks that an innocent person minding their own business. I complement the shooter as I, also a person with a concealed weapon available at all times, we must protect ourselves from imminent danger. The police can't be everywhere a crime is being committed.

  5. Ha! Love it!!! If more people did THAT, there'd be a lot fewer carjackings... I hope that guy doesn't get thrown in jail, though, because I think that once you defend yourself, you aren't supposed to chase down the perps and blow them to smithereens...

  6. If what happened is as described above he will go to jail for sure. I would think manslaughter. Although he may say that he was still in fear for his life because they had guns and had brandished them. Then he is looking at some kind of gun law violation (unlikely he had permit in NYC) but if the jury buys his story justifiable homicide.

You cannot shoot someone when they retreat, only when you justifiably fear grave injury or death. I sympathize with this man because he was victimized by criminals but he does not have the right to use deadly force after the confrontation.
