Jerry Brown Worries About ‘Overpopulation’ Amid California Drought

Gov. Jerry Brown is worried that the Golden State will eventually have too many people for the state’s water supplies to support.

Brown made the comments before the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board and also warned that global warming was exacerbating California’s drought.

California’s four-year drought has put huge strains on the state’s water supplies and forced a public discussion on state water infrastructure and how officials allocate water rights. Gov. Brown has imposed draconian water restrictions in the hopes he can cut water use of metropolitan areas across the state.

Water restrictions have even touched California’s agriculture industry, which is expected to shed 18,000 farm jobs this season, equalling about $1.2 billion in lost wages. But even as thousands of farm hands could lose their jobs, California officials are still flushing millions of acre feet of water every year to protect the endangered Delta Smelt fish.

Scientists Say New Study Is A ‘Death Blow’ To Global Warming Hysteria

A new study out of Germany casts further doubt on the so-called global warming “consensus” by suggesting the atmosphere may be less sensitive to increases in carbon dioxide emissions than most scientists think.

A study by scientists at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Meteorology found that man-made aerosols had a much smaller cooling effect on the atmosphere during the 20th Century than was previously thought. Why is this big news? It means increases in carbon dioxide emissions likely cause less warming than most climate models suggest.

What do aerosols have to do with anything? Well, aerosols are created from human activities like burning coal, driving cars or from fires. There are also natural aerosols like clouds and fog.

12 Sates Sue Obama Over Carbon Dioxide Regs

Twelve states have launched a lawsuit against pending Environmental Protection Agency regulations that would force states to limit carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants.

The bipartisan coalition of states, led by West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, is looking for a federal court to overturn a 2011 settlement by the EPA, states, cities and environmental groups, which gave the agency political cover to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.

“Our system doesn’t allow federal agencies to ‘improve’ or ‘fix’ laws to advance an agenda,” Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who joined Morrisey in the lawsuit, said in a statement. “But that is what happened here: the EPA made a promise in 2011 to expand its authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants.”

“Fortunately, the law doesn’t allow the agency to do what it wants,” Pruitt added. “This lawsuit is about holding the EPA accountable to following the environmental statutes as passed by Congress. Oklahoma will continue to challenge the EPA – or any other federal agency – when it takes actions that undermine our system and the rule of law.”

In June, the EPA proposed rules that would force states to come up with plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants already in operation as part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. The EPA is looking to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants 30 percent by 2030.

Where Did ’97 Percent’ Global Warming Consensus Figure Come From?

The University of Queensland in Australia is taking legal action to block the release of data used by one of its scientists to come up with the oft-quoted statistic that 97 percent of climate scientists agree that mankind is causing global warming.

Since coming out with this figure last year, climate scientist John Cook of the University of Queensland’s Global Change Institute has been under fire for the methodology he used.

“Our analysis indicates that the number of papers rejecting the consensus on [anthropogenic global warming] is a vanishingly small proportion of the published research,’’ Cook and his fellow authors wrote in their study which was published in the journal Environmental Research Letters last year.

The university has told climate skeptic blogger Brandon Schollenberger that the data on the study he possesses was illegally obtained and they would take legal action against him if he published it.

“UQ has therefore published all data relating to the paper that is of any scientific value to the wider community,” said Queensland’s acting pro-vice-­chancellor Alastair McEwan.

“UQ withheld only data that could identify research participants who took part in the ­research on condition of anonymity,” McEwan added. “Such conditions are not uncommon in academic ­research, and any breach of confidentiality could deter people from participating in valuable research in the future.”
