Chicago: 3 Killed, 19 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across City

Three people were killed and at least 19 other people wounded in citywide shootings since Friday evening.

An 18-year-old woman was fatally shot early Sunday while she was in a Belmont Cragin apartment on the Northwest Side.

Alexandra Burgos was sitting in an apartment in the 5300 block of West Oakdale about 12:35 a.m. when gunshots came from outside and struck her in the head, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

She was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m., authorities said. Her home address was not immediately known Sunday evening.

About 1 a.m. Saturday, a man was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Genorel Martin, 24, was shot in the chest in the apartment building where he lived in the 6700 block of South Throop, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He was opening the door to the building’s vestibule when a male opened fire, police said.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:12 a.m., authorities said.
