Lance Armstrong Must Pay $10 million In Perjury Battle

By Brent Schrotenboer, Feb. 17, 2015, USA TODAY Sports

To protect his mythic status as an American sports hero, Lance Armstrong lied under oath in 2005, saying he never used performance-enhancing drugs. An arbitration panel in Texas ruled it's time for him to pay for it, handing down a $10 million penalty believed to be the largest such sanction against an individual in American judicial history.

In a 2-1 decision, the panel ordered the disgraced cyclist to pay the money to SCA Promotions, a Dallas sports insurance company that paid Armstrong's bonuses for winning the Tour de France and then helped cause his epic fall from grace in 2012.

"Perjury must never be profitable," the panel wrote in its ruling.

The Patriots should Be Disqualified From The Super Bowl

Chris Chase, Jan. 21, 2015, USA Today

The defenders of New England have been even more laughable than they were during the videotape controversy of 2007. “It doesn’t even help that much!” Sure it doesn’t. That’s why they were doing it. Of course it helps. Deflating gave Brady an easier grip on the ball (at least in the first half; there’s question about whether the balls were re-inflated at half time when it was 17-7). It also left Andrew Luck with the harder footballs in the colder weather.

The Pacers may not have won, but basketball fans will never forget Lance Stephenson’s hilarious antics in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Heat. In the span of one series, Stephenson tried to get inside LeBron James’ head by saying he has a weakness, was fined $15,000 for flopping on two separate occasions, snuck into the Miami Heat huddle, committed a flagrant foul on Norris Cole, blew air into James’ ear and was subsequently called out by Larry Bird.

Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron compared Republicans that oppose President Barack Obama to the Ku Klux Klan.

Speaking to USA Today Tuesday on the 40th anniversary of his then record-breaking 715th home run, the 80-year-old Aaron said that Republicans are hindering Obama’s job performance.  “Sure, this country has a black president, but when you look at a black president, President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all of the Republicans with the way he’s treated,” Aaron told USA Today Sports.

Aaron continued: “The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts.”  Aaron stated that there is still room for improvement for race relations in the U.S.  “We have moved in the right direction, and there have been improvements, but we still have a long ways to go in the country,” Aaron told USA Today Sports.

Aaron goes on to describe the racist letters he has kept for decades as he was chasing Babe Ruth’s home run record.  “To remind myself that we are not that far removed from when I was chasing the record,” Aaron explained to USA Today Sports. “If you think that, you are fooling yourself. A lot of things have happened in this country, but we have so far to go. There’s not a whole lot that has changed.”
