US President Donald Trump has denied laying plans to fire special counsel Robert Mueller following weekend claims that the former FBI director’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election had improperly obtained emails.

“No, I’m not,” he told a reporter on Sunday afternoon when asked if he was considering firing Mr Mueller. But he said it was “not looking good”, when asked whether emails had been unlawfully obtained, and repeated denials of any collusion with Russians.
