Thousands of people marched across Charleston's main bridge in a show of unity after nine black church parishioners were gunned down during a Bible study.

Crowds gathered on either side of the bridge around dusk and then met toward the middle of the span. Part of the bridge was closed as people were walking, taking pictures and chatting.

When the marchers from the Mount Pleasant side and the Charleston side met on the bridge, there was clapping and singing of "This Little Light of Mine."

The crowds are planning on holding hands across the bridge around dusk. Part of the bridge is closed as people are walking, chatting and taking pictures.

When the marchers from the Mount Pleasant side and the Charleston side met on the bridge, there was clapping and singing of "This little light of mine."

"It feels great. There's so much love out here," said Juliett Marsh of Summerville, who was toward the front of the marchers who walked from the Mount Pleasant side.

Russia's Bombers To Conduct Regular Patrols Ranging From The Arctic To The Gulf Of Mexico

In a show of military muscle amid tensions with the West, Russia will send long-range strategic bombers on regular patrol missions across the globe, from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, a top official said Wednesday.

The announcement by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu came as NATO's chief accused Russia of sending fresh troops and tanks into eastern Ukraine.

Canada Won't Issue Visas To Resident Of Countries With Widespread Ebola

In a move that puts Canada at odds with the World Health Organization, the federal government said Friday it is suspending the issuance of visas for residents and nationals of countries with "widespread and persistent-intense transmission" of Ebola virus disease. As well, work on permanent residence applications for people from the affected countries is also being suspended.

The stress on countries with widespread transmission provides an out for the United States, which currently still has at least one active Ebola case within its borders. At present only three countries meet the definition of widespread and persistent Ebola transmission: Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

MPs Credit Sergeant-At-Arms For Saving Lives In Parliament Hill Shootings

OTTAWA - To those who know Kevin Vickers, there was little surprise that the sergeant-at-arms of the House of Commons and former RCMP officer would be the one to intervene in Wednesday's attack on Parliament Hill and reportedly shoot an assailant.

Friends and family of the former long-serving RCMP officer said it is in his nature to take on a threat unreservedly, regardless of the risk it might pose.

"The fact that Kevin may have been involved in the front end of the incident does not surprise me," said Dan Bussieres, who is the sergeant-at-arms in the New Brunswick legislature and served with him in the RCMP.

"Like I said, he's a top cop in my book."

Vickers, who has a background in providing security services for dignitaries including members of the Royal Family, was reportedly in the House of Commons when a gunman entered sometime after 9:52 a.m.

Two sources told The Canadian Press that Vickers shot the assailant inside the Hall of Honour, the main entrance to the Centre Block beneath the Peace Tower.

Officials have not confirmed that Vickers fired at the suspect, but one MP credited Vickers on Twitter with saving lives.

"MPs and Hill staff owe their safety, even lives, to Sergeant at Arms Kevin Vickers who shot attacker just outside the MPs' caucus rooms," tweeted New Democrat Craig Scott.
