It’s been a while since Larry Elder has been heard on local airwaves, with the self-described “Sage from South Central” being shown the door at KABC (790 AM) last December. But that didn’t stop him from being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He’s in rare company. Only a handful of political talk radio hosts have a star, including Ray Briem (1992), Dan Avey (2006) and Bill Handel (2009), according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Bill Cunningham, a radio pioneer who hosted “Meet the Boss” from 1944 to 1952, was awarded a star in 1960, although the Walk of Fame website incorrectly lists the recipient as the current conservative talk host with the same name, who was born in 1947.)

Elder was the recipient of the 2,548th star on April 27, or Larry Elder Day in Hollywood, according to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Leron Gubler. The star can be found near Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, across the street from the Pantages Theatre. On hand for the celebration were Jon Voight and Dean Cain.

Newsmax TV contributor Larry Elder received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week, and actors Jon Voight and Dean Cain were there to sing his praises at the induction ceremony.

Taking to the podium on sunny Monday afternoon, Voight described Elder as "a great patriot" who "understands freedom and love of America," My News L.A. reported.

"He is an American success story," said Cain. "Hard work wins."

Elder, known as the "Sage of South Central," is the host of "The Larry Elder Show" a talk radio show that ran for roughly two decades on 790 KABC in Los Angeles, and was syndicated on ABC Radio Networks.

Elder is the best-selling author of "The 10 Things You Can’t Say in America" and several other books. He also appeared on television in "Moral Court" and "The Larry Elder Show," and is a frequent panelist on Newsmax TV.

Elder became the 2,548th person to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, which also marked his 63rd birthday.

Elder thanked many people in his acceptance speech, including his fans. He said that years ago he was walking down the street when a fan told him, "I love you and I hate you. You’re like castor oil. It don’t taste good going down, but it’s good for you."

Elder posted several pictures of the ceremony on Twitter, where he boasts more than 60,000 followers.

Lawyer-turned-radio talk show host Larry Elder received a unique present for his 63rd birthday today, the 2,548th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Elder thanked a long list of people, including then-KABC-AM (790) general manager George Green, “who hired me with five days of experience” in radio.

“He had to override the objections of people in New York, who thought I was too inexperienced,” Elder said at the late-morning ceremony next to the W Hollywood Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.

Elder thanked three teachers from high school “all of whom gave me confidence and told me that I was going to go places if I stuck to the knitting.”

Elder also thanked his “beautiful, beautiful Elderado fans.”

“I remember when I first came to L.A., it was kind of rough,” Elder said. “I was walking down … Fairfax (Avenue) one day and two guys were sitting on the corner.

“One of them said ‘Larry Elder, come over here.’

“I started not to come. He looked a little scary, but I went over.

“He said, ‘I love you and I hate you. You’re like castor oil. It don’t taste good going down, but it’s good for you.”

Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight called Elder “a great patriot” who “understands freedom and love of America.”

Elder “is an American success story,” actor Dean Cain said.

Elder was born and raised in South Los Angeles. He graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1970, Brown University in 1974 and the University of Michigan Law School in 1977.

Elder initially worked for a Cleveland law firm, then opened a business which recruited experienced attorneys. He began his broadcasting career in the late 1980s hosting a show on WVIZ, Cleveland’s Public Broadcasting Service station, then moved to WOIO, the Fox affiliate in Cleveland.

Elder joined KABC in 1994, remaining with the station until 2008. He rejoined the station in 2010 and was fired in December.

Elder also hosted two television shows, “Moral Court” and “The Larry Elder Show.” He has written four books, “The 10 Things You Can’t Say in America”; “Showdown: Confronting Bias, Lies and the Special Interests That Divide America”; “What’s Race Got to Do With It? Why it’s Time to Stop the Stupidest Argument in America”; and “Dear Father, Dear Son: Two Lives, Eight Hours.”

Elder now hosts an Internet show that can be heard on his website, LarryElder.com, and writes a nationally syndicated column.

Larry Elder To Get Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

When Larry Elder was a boy growing up in Los Angeles, his older brother would sometimes take him for a walk down Hollywood Boulevard and point out various celebrities’ stars on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Now, after 21 years of hosting a popular talk-radio show, Elder is set to join that pantheon of stars.



The conservative author and radio personality will receive his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during an April 27 ceremony, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced.

“Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think I’d end up being there. I mean, it literally is out-of-body,” Elder, the author of “Dear Father, Dear Son: Two Lives … Eight Hours,” told WND in an interview.

Each year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce awards Walk of Fame stars to notable figures in the categories of television, motion pictures, recording, live theater and radio. Out of the 30 entertainers who will receive a star in 2015, Elder is the only one in the radio category.

Larry Elder Receives A Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame As 2015 Honorees Are Revealed

Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy are among the 30 honorees selected to receive a star on Hollywood’s the Walk of Fame in 2015, the Walk of Fame Selection Committee announced Thursday morning.

Jennifer Garner, Peter Jackson, Eugenio Derbez, Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Rudd and Christoph Waltz join funnyman Ferrell in those from the motion pictures category receiving stars.

Screenwriter and novelist Raymond Chandler, who died in 1959, and Batman creator Bob Kane, who died in 1998, will be given their stars posthumously.

From the television category, “The Simpsons” producer James L. Brooks, producer and director Ken Ehrlich, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane, “The Good Wife’s” Julianna Margulies, “NCIS: Los Angeles” star Chris O’Donnell, “Big Bang Theory” genius Jim Parsons, former “Saturday Night Live” favorite Amy Poehler, talkshow host Kelly Ripa and “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara will receive stars for their work.

Songwriter and remixer Lukasz ‘Dr. Luke’ Gottwald, R&B funk music group Kool & The Gang, rapper Pitbull, Al Schmitt and producer-turned-singer Pharrell Williams will receive stars as well.

Kristin Chenoweth, Dick Gregory and Ennio Morricone were selected to receive stars for their live performances on stage or in the theatre.

Los Angeles radio host Larry Elder will also receive a star, being the only one from the radio category to do so. Snoopy, a childhood cartoon favorite, will even receive a star on the Walk for his memorable appearances in the “Peanuts” specials.

“We know that the new selections represent the best of the entertainment industry and will be a great addition to the Walk of Fame for both the Hollywood community and fans from around the world who visit Hollywood every year,” Maureen Schultz, Chair of the Walk of Fame selection committee, said in a statement.

The Walk of Fame Selection Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce selected the honorees at a meeting held on June 16.

Of these 30 ceremonies planned for the recipients, approximately 24 of them will be broadcasted to a worldwide audience.
