The Democrats who flipped congressional seats across California this year rode to victory on a wave of cash from individual donors outside their districts, with about 9 out of every 10 dollars pouring in from elsewhere around the state and the country.
That’s according to a Bay Area News Group analysis of itemized donations to candidates in seven highly competitive House districts that Democrats wrestled away from Republicans last month. Four Democrats raised more than 95 percent from outside their districts, including incoming Central Valley congressman TJ Cox, who received more than 99 percent of his haul from elsewhere.
