A driver with marijuana and crack in the car sped away from a traffic stop early Monday with an officer clinging to the vehicle — at one point driving more than 50 mph and dragging the officer a mile, police said.

The officer, Tyler DeAngelo, was injured when he fell to the ground but has since been treated at a hospital and released, Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro Jr. said. The driver, Taj L. Dickerson of Nautilus Drive in New London, was arrested on about a dozen charges after a chase, police said.
