Jeff Sessions Unswayed By Pope On Immigration, Economy, Climate

Sen. Jeff Sessions won’t boycott the pope’s address to Congress Thursday, but the Alabama Republican doesn’t expect to be swayed by what he says on immigration, climate change or the economy.

“He’s said things close to open borders, which I think is wrong, and his opinion is no more persuasive to me than the Wall Street Journal’s. I don’t agree with either one,” Sessions told CQ Roll Call in a hallway interview Tuesday.

Scalia's Death Could Change Court On Abortion, Race, Climate

Justice Antonin Scalia’s death could change the course of history on the contentious social and legal issues pending before the Supreme Court this term, especially in closely divided cases where he was expected to serve as a lynchpin of a conservative majority.

In cases where the eight remaining justices are evenly divided, appeals court rulings would be left to stand, but no precedent would be set for future cases. The justices could also hold cases and leave stays of lower court rulings in place, while awaiting confirmation of a new justice, but it’s unclear if they would do so for nearly a year if the Senate refuses to consider any nominee while President Barack Obama is in office.

Obama: ‘We Are Going To Contribute $3 Billion to the Green Climate Fund'

This fund to which Obama intends to funnel $3 billion in U.S. taxpayer money lists among its board members Ziqian Liang, the deputy director general of the International Department of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China. It also lists as board members Ayman Shasly, and international policies consultant with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia; and Jorge Ferrer Rodriquez, a minister counsellor with the Multilateral Affairs and International Law General Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

“We cannot forget the need to lead on the global fight against climate change,” Obama said in his speech at the University of Queensland.

“Here in the Asia Pacific, nobody has more at stake when it comes to thinking about and then acting on climate change,” Obama said. “Here, a climate that increases in temperature will mean more extreme and frequent storms, more flooding, rising seas that submerge Pacific islands. Here in Australia, it means longer droughts, more wildfires. The incredible natural glory of the Great Barrier Reef is threated. Worldwide, this past summer was the hottest on record. No nation is immune, and every nation has a responsibility to do its part.”

"AAA: Freezing Temps Can Cut EV Range By More Than Half"--"Climate change" strikes again

It's been established that electric cars aren't fond of weather that isn't pretty mild. But a new study from AAA says that range advertised could be cut by a staggering 57 percent if conditions aren't ideal. 
In a study released Thursday, AAA says the average range of EVs in their testing was cut by that 57 percent figure over the EPA rating when driving in 20 degree weather. That means they were only able to get 43 miles on a charge when it was below freezing, versus 105 miles when it was 75 degrees out.  Hot weather also decreased EV range, AAA says, but not as much as the freezing temps.
Until that's all figured out, EVs are only going to do well in places that don't see much weather, like Southern California. Try explaining to someone in Chicago this winter why their Nissan Leaf only got them 43 percent of the way to work.
